[edit]Help dealing with fraud/personal information
[edit]I've noticed that there is some definite fraud here, and I'm not sure what the proper procedure for dealing with something like this is. There's policies against removing others' talk page comments, but I'm not sure exactly what this falls under. Thanks, <RetroCraft314 talk/>

- I have removed it as off-topic. It's two years old so I didn't take further action. PrimeHunter (talk) 00:33, 22 May 2018 (UTC)
I have a page that has been locked for over a year
[edit]https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Liberty_Writers_News
A page for my company incorrectly cites me as Fake News and there are numerous other sources to contend this claim. The page has been locked and I am not allowed to edit it. This is in violation of Wikipedia's own rules about the lock being limited to pages that are vandalized frequently. My page has not been vandalized and there have only been 3 requests to edit within a year and a half.
Let me know how to get the page unlocked so I can add more sources. — Preceding unsigned comment added by JohnConnerRock (talk • contribs) 04:03, 22 May 2018 (UTC)
- Before I answer your question I need to point something out. It is NOT your page, It is Wikipedia's article about Liberty Writers News, you do not own or control it, anyone is free to make or suggest constructive edits. Seeing as you said "My page..." this could indicate that you have a connection to the Liberty Writers News, if you do you should not be editing it at all, I suggest that you read WP:COI immediately.
- The article was protected on 9 February 2017 by @Sandstein:, it was semi-protection, which means that unregistered users are prevented from editing, but confirmed and auto-confirmed users are able to edit it. You will be able to edit it once your account becomes auto-confirmed. - X201 (talk) 07:51, 22 May 2018 (UTC)
Several questions
[edit]Hi guys
I created myself a german Wikipedia-site for One Day Remains (Band) which is already released. After, I made one in English but therefore I have a few questions:
- Why am I not yet autoconfirmed after 10 days? - How can I finally release the site in English? - How can I add a picture to the site which is already uploaded en Wiki Commons?
Thanks for your help.
Cheers abcdipedia — Preceding unsigned comment added by Abcdipedia (talk • contribs) 06:18, 22 May 2018 (UTC)
- Abcdipedia:
- You are not yet autoconfirmed on English WIkipedia because you have only made eight edits, including asking the question above (and please remember to sign your postings on discussion pages like this one).
- Draft:One Day Remains (Band) is not yet ready for release, as it cites no sources. To establish that a subject is notable enough for publication on English Wikipedia, it must cite several reliable independent published sources with in-depth discussion of the subject. (Also, the body of an article should not contain any direct external links.)
- For using a Commons image in a page, see Help:Visual file markup.
- Maproom (talk) 06:38, 22 May 2018 (UTC)
- (edit conflict) Hi Abcdipedia, you need to make just two more edits here on the English Wikipedia to become autoconfirmed, then you can link to the existing picture from Commons in the same way as you did on the German Wikipedia. Wikipedia does not "release sites", but it does publish articles, and if you have written a good article in English then you can publish it yourself. It will then be reviewed. Does the German Wikipedia not require citations to WP:Reliable sources? Dbfirs 06:40, 22 May 2018 (UTC)
Hi guys
Thank you very much for your answers, they were helpful. Where exactly can I see how many edits I already made? Does an edit only count on different articles or as well on the same one?
Abcdipedia (talk) 13:54, 22 May 2018 (UTC)
- @Abcdipedia: You can view you edits here and edit count here. Abelmoschus Esculentus (talk to me) 14:01, 22 May 2018 (UTC)
You're too kind, thx! And how can I publish an article?
Abcdipedia (talk) 14:10, 22 May 2018 (UTC)
- @Abcdipedia: You're welcome. As you are not a autoconfirmed user, you cannot publish an article to mainspace. However, you can create drafts. Search "Draft:(Topic)", you will see "You may create the page "Draft:(Topic)"" message. Click into the red link, then create your draft there. Once you have autoconfirmed rights, you can move it into mainspace. Abelmoschus Esculentus (talk to me) 14:14, 22 May 2018 (UTC)
Sorry, didn't get this one :) I believe I have been autoconfirmed just right now (correct?) - what is the process then?
Abcdipedia (talk) 14:24, 22 May 2018 (UTC)
- @Abcdipedia: I suggest you to read WP:CS and WP:RS first as I afraid when your articles are published they got speedy deleted. Abelmoschus Esculentus (talk to me) 14:30, 22 May 2018 (UTC)
Remove my name Please
[edit]Hello,
I'm Deborah L. Mamuric and I just googled my name and it showed a lot of errors and my privacy. Please remove my name in your list. I do not want my privacy to be invaded.
Thank you,
Deborah L. Mamuric — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2605:E000:2E5D:F700:298C:E439:8ACE:722D (talk) 06:22, 22 May 2018 (UTC)
- Hi Deborah L. Mamuric. I've just googled your name, and Google finds some information about you which I didn't read since you value your privacy. I did not find any information about you on Wikipedia, so couldn't find anything to remove. Could you tell us which list you found? Dbfirs 06:34, 22 May 2018 (UTC)
- We are an encyclopedia. Maybe you saw your name on a website for an organization we have an article about and incorrectly thought we are that organization. We only control content at wikipedia.org. PrimeHunter (talk) 10:58, 22 May 2018 (UTC)
Neutrality of article disputed
[edit]{{POV|date=April 2018|talk=Talk:Antisemitism in the Labour Party Neutrality}}
This is still in place on the Antisemitism in the UK Labour Party article. Rather than addressing the neutrality, recent edits seem to be exacerbating the problem. Could someone take a look? Garageland66 (talk) 06:58, 22 May 2018 (UTC)
- The article is about an ongoing controversy – it's hardly surprising that contentious edits are being made. Maproom (talk) 07:15, 22 May 2018 (UTC)
- Housekeeping comment: I tried to substitute the template in the the original post, but failed, so I quoted it instead. We do not want the Help Desk to be aded to Category:NPOV disputes, do we? TigraanClick here to contact me 08:28, 22 May 2018 (UTC)
- @Tigraan: {{POV}} should never be substituted and uses Module:Unsubst to substitute to its transcluded form. {{POV}} only adds categories in mainspace. Othwerwise template produced categories can be removed with {{Suppress categories}}. Enable "Show hidden categories" at Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-rendering to easily see hidden categories on a page. PrimeHunter (talk) 10:51, 22 May 2018 (UTC)
MusicDigi deletion
[edit]hello, a page i contributed to was recently deleted and i strongly disagreed to with the deletion, MusicDigi is a popuplar digital distribution service, the company distributes music to hundreds of digital service providers for thousands of record labels and artists. i have written to the user who deleted the page but am yet to receive any real responds concerning this matter, i please ask that you review this case and re-activate the page, the user had also expressed that the page might content dead links and being a reporter for over ten year i say this is common about news articles and am willing to help improve the page if needed and also provide even more information.
here is a link to the page: MusicDigi
MusicDigi is a registered company in the state of Georgia, and can be found using the Georgia business search link below [1]
Below is are links to recent articles about MusicDigi from World News, NBC, onmogul and more
Below is links a post from a verified artist Eryn Woods who uses this service [7]
Below is a link to interview of a popular Spanish artist King Dest expressing that he uses MusicDigi and how the service has been behind his global success [8]
Below is a link to King Dest recent music which was distributed by MusicDigi with over 3 million view which he explained in his last interview above [9]
below is a link to the user who deleted the page: User_talk:Enigmaman — Preceding unsigned comment added by Yungjamil101 (talk • contribs) 14:36, 22 May 2018 (UTC)
- Here is a link to the article's deletion discussion. Maproom (talk) 15:48, 22 May 2018 (UTC)
- Hello, Yungjami1101. Which admin deleted the article is not really to the point: in the deletion discussion that Maproom pointed you to, two editors, neither of them Enigmaman, both argued that the subject was not at present notable (in the special way that Wikipedia uses that word), and nobody spoke in favour of keeping it. That discussion has a link to deletion review, which tells you how you can contest the deletion - but this would be a waste of time unless you address the issues raised. You give several references above, but the first five are all obviously based on press releases from MusicDigi, and the last three, as well as being on social media and blogs (not usually regarded as reliable) are from people who use MusicDigi in their business. Wikipedia has essentially no interest in anything which the subject of an article says about themselves (eg in a press release) or which their friends or associates say about them. It is only interested in what people who have no connection with the subject have chosen to publish about the subject, in reliable places (ie those with a reputation for fact-checking and editorial control). Unless you can find some sources which meet these requirements - independent, reliable, and with substantial content about MusicDigi - there is essentially nothing which can go in an article about it, so no article will be accepted. --ColinFine (talk) 18:59, 22 May 2018 (UTC)
Citation for city council motion
[edit]I need assistance creating a citation for a city council motion that passed.
The transcript of the meeting is shown here.
The motion I need to cite is: MOTION - NO. M-18-176 - BY: COUNCILMEMBERS WILLIAMS, MORENO, GIARRUSSO, BANKS, GISLESON PALMER, BROSSETT AND NGUYEN Electing Councilmember-at-Large Jason Williams to serve as President of the Council for the term May 7, 2018 to May 9, 2019.
I will be citing it on the New Orleans City Council page.
Thank you in advance. Eclectek C T 14:46, 22 May 2018 (UTC)
- Eclectek, you could cite it like this:
- <ref>Motion No. M-18-176, in Minutes of Special Organizational Meeting of the City Council of New Orleans, May 7, 2018</ref>
- Mind you that's what we call a "primary source", and if the election of Mr Williams has been reported in a local newspaper or other reliable news outlet, that would in general be preferable as a citation: Noyster (talk), 15:34, 22 May 2018 (UTC)
- Thanks Noyster. That's perfect. Unfortunately the election wasn't reported on in the local media, thus falling back to the actual meeting minutes. Eclectek C T 15:54, 22 May 2018 (UTC)
Friends of Key Hill Cemetery & Warstone Lane Cemetery links removed.
[edit]We have tried to add our link to those who are buried in either Key Hill Cemetery and Warstone Lane Cemetery in Birmingham Jewellery Quarter, Hockley. We are a voluntary group who researches the lives of the notable people buried in these two historic Cemeteries. We are the only group to maintain the cemeteries and graves. Such as Joseph Chamberlain , Joseph Gilliot (Pen Maker ) John Skirrow Wright ( Postal Order ) . Our links have been removed as spam. We are not spamming. Other groups such as JQRT and the Hockley Flyer have links I see no reason why out voluntary group cannot also. Friends of Key Hill Cemetery & Warstone Lane Cemetery — Preceding unsigned comment added by Grave-matters (talk • contribs) 15:05, 22 May 2018 (UTC)
- At Joseph Chamberlain you added an "External link" reading
- https://friendsofkeyhillcemeterywarstonelanecemetery.wordpress.com/ Friends of Key Hill Cemetery & Warstone Lane Cemetery in Birmingham Jewellery Quarter, Hockley.
- which leads to a page that merely lists Chamberlain's name and tells the reader nothing about him. I'd definitely call that spam. I see no mention of "JQRT" or "Hockley" in the article. Maproom (talk) 15:21, 22 May 2018 (UTC)
- The pertinent information, that Chamberlain (for instance) is buried in the Key Hill Cemetery, is in the article. Providing clickbait to your website isn't part of Wikipedia's remit. Ravenswing 08:43, 23 May 2018 (UTC)
Changing title of a page (Music Producer)
[edit]Good morning,
I'm writing you as I need to change the title of my artist page as it is displayed in Wikipedia.
I noticed that my page displays my name as 'Ventus (Producer)'. I need this changed to 'VENTUS (Music Producer)'.
If you can make this change please let me know. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Henrypallares (talk • contribs) 17:27, 22 May 2018 (UTC)
- The article Ventus (producer) has an active deletion discussion here as it has no reliable sources and does not appear to meet our notability standards. Let's hold off on the name change until the discussion concludes. -Arch dude (talk) 01:10, 23 May 2018 (UTC)
- As we often tell people, a Wikipedia article about you is not "your page" and you don't control its contents or title. Please see our policy on "conflict of interest": Noyster (talk), 10:54, 23 May 2018 (UTC)
Coordinates in maps in infobox maps?
[edit]See, in this section of a sandbox I've got two sorts of maps. On the right, the multi-use maps using the switch mechanism, and on the left, one which uses long/lat coordinates to place objects.
Now. Is it possible to combine the two?—that is, have the two switchable maps (on the right) contain the highlighted coordinate buttons of those on the left? (Not exactly the same coordinates, of course, just the principle.)
Hoping some Kind Soul can help :) Cheers! —SerialNumber54129 paranoia /cheap sh*t room 18:30, 22 May 2018 (UTC)
Reverting pending edits as a non-reviewer
[edit]Hello,
I was checking out my XTools report today and noticed it says I have performed 19 "approve" actions. I've never been a pending change reviewer, so this was a bit confusing until I realized those were all reverts I did in the last year!
I can't imagine it would be very good form for a non-reviewer to go and process the pending changes backlog for bad edits, so I'm wondering if it's otherwise generally accepted to revert pending changes I come across? Mlkj (talk) 21:19, 22 May 2018 (UTC)
- If it's blatant vandalism, I don't see why not. It's not our job to approve edits, but I don't see any reason not to revert clear vandalism - and looking at that I have 6 reverts myself. LittlePuppers (talk) 21:43, 22 May 2018 (UTC)
- A non-reviewer cannot approve a change, but I see no reason that a non-reviewer should refrain from normal editing just because there is a pending change, and a revert is merely one way to edit. Our objective is to improve the encyclopedia, so we should not impose restrictions on good edits. -Arch dude (talk) 23:43, 22 May 2018 (UTC)
- Anyone can revert vandalism. Feel free to do so on any article, regardless of whether it has pending changes or not. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 02:12, 23 May 2018 (UTC)
