Bold and italic letters

[edit]

I like to have a look at the section of Wikipedia called "Wikipedia: Articles for deletion", but I am not sure how you get "Delete" "Keep" or "Merge" in bold letters, as other Wikipedians appear to be able to do. Also, I believe that, by using quote marks, it is possible to get some of one's letters in italics, but I was not sure how to do this. Any help and advice here will be much appreciated. Many thanks in advance for any assistance, Vorbee (talk) 08:14, 15 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Vorbee: To use bold type three straight apostrophes (''') either side of the words you wish to highlight. To display italics, use two. Eagleash (talk) 08:20, 15 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Entry for "Rafey Habib"

[edit]

Rafey Habib (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Dear Wiki editor,

I would like to modify the entry on "Rafey Habib" (which is about me), but I feel unable to do this myself. If I send you some text, could you please substitute it for the text that is currently in place?

Also, on the page it says that more citations are needed to "verify" the information. What exactly needs verifying and what would count as "reliable sources"?

Thanks for your help, Rafey Habib. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 168.187.120.203 (talk) 11:33, 15 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • Rafey, since the article is about you, you are strongly discouraged from directly editing it anyway: see WP:COI. You are free (and encouraged!) to add your proposed text to the articles talk page Talk:Rafey Habib, where other editors can look at your proposed changes and then edit the article. Since Wikipedia can be edited by anyone, we must insist that stuff is verifyable: see WP:V, using reliable sources: see WP:RS. We have our own speific definitions for "verifyable" and "reliable source", so please do not assume you know what we mean. When you fine reliable sources, the syntax or adding them can be difficult for newcomers: don't worry about that, just stick them on the talk page any old way and another editor can do the dirty work-Arch dude (talk) 15:07, 15 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Arch Dude, Many thanks for your response. In accordance with your suggestion, I will post some proposed text so that other editors can look at the changes. My purpose is merely to have an article that is somewhat better-written and more accurate (and, as you say, verifiable). By the way, I always thought that I was the arch dude; and now I find that someone else is... Many thanks, Rafey Habib. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 168.187.120.203 (talk) 09:40, 16 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Pop Ups

[edit]

I noticed today that if I passed my cursor over a link, a pop up appeared. Is there a way to turn this off? It is distracting.

Bruce — Preceding unsigned comment added by 146.186.247.20 (talk) 14:54, 15 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

You can disable it with the cog wheel that is inside the popup. —TheDJ (talkcontribs) 14:55, 15 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
When I see the popup, there's no cogwheel, but the word "popups" in it produces a menu which offers "disable popups" as an option. Maproom (talk) 15:10, 15 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
That is Navigation popups, which is not available to IP users. The IP likely encountered and A/B test for mw:Page Previews however. —TheDJ (talkcontribs) 15:25, 15 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Everyone.
I am concerned about a maintenance tag placed on article Avner Halperin, which reads "This article may have been created or edited in return for undisclosed payments, a violation of Wikipedia's terms of use. It may require cleanup to comply with Wikipedia's content policies." It means that tag has been placed because Wikipedia suspects that it was edited in exchange of money. But the user who created article has already disclosed here that he was paid for this article. Then the question arises, If paid editing is disclosed, then why still UDP (Undisclosed Payment) tag be placed on the article? It should be removed when paid editing is clearly disclosed. Someone, please help to remove that maintenance tag. --150.242.199.24 (talk) 16:14, 15 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The editor made the disclosure after creating and repeatedly editing the article. In any such situation, the content is suspect and the tag should remain until the consensus is reached to remove it. I don't have time to go into it thoroughly, but in glancing briefly over the article I am uncertain if the subject meets notability guidelines in the first place. RivertorchFIREWATER 16:49, 15 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I am not aware about why did the user not disclose his all paid works and also not much aware what was case exactly. But user has initially disclosed this article to be paid then UDP tag doesn't apply. I asked here for help but no one came forward to help me out. So, now I decided to do it by myself. I have prepared my version, did clean up, added more references, considering all Wiki guidelines. So, I am trying myself best to resolve the issue. If you find something wrong, help me to fix it.--150.242.198.205 (talk) 13:34, 5 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Request comment on a non-admin Afd closure

[edit]

Hello, I would like to know if we have a noticeboard where I can broach the subject of an afd closed by a non-admin. For the record, the case is Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Thiripuram.--SamHolt6 (talk) 17:41, 15 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • The first step is to discuss with the user who closed the discussion. Often pointing out error can result in them realizing the close was problematic. After that, the right forum is Wikipedia:Deletion review where despite the name, you can discuss things that weren't deleted like this case. CrowCaw 17:48, 15 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Digging deeper, that close was inappropriate (performed by article creator who had also opined in the discussion). Per WP:BADNAC I think an uninvolved administrator should re-open the discussion due to these factors. CrowCaw 17:56, 15 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the prompt response.--SamHolt6 (talk) 18:23, 15 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Religion

[edit]

Before there was the word Muslim the Quran they were called Ishmaelit's they credited this religion and faith like the Christian's so any one from any nationality and bacround can join them but descendants of Mohammed consider every one less than they are well not all but radicals do and there is no proof that Mohammed was a true blood descendant of Ishmael — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:6C4A:717F:EC9C:C5D3:13DC:E417:E2B2 (talk) 19:11, 15 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

How do i create an entry for my company? — Preceding unsigned comment added by M. Isabella (talkcontribs) 20:01, 15 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I'd suggest starting by reviewing Wikipedia's guidelines on conflicts of interest before venturing further. PureRED | talk to me | 20:04, 15 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Also please see WP:NOTDIRECTORY and WP:NOTADVERTISING. General Ization Talk 20:05, 15 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Please wait before creating a page about a company or organization.
Since you have a close connection to the company or organization, you have a conflict of interest. Please read the FAQ first. If you still think your article is appropriate, you can submit it to Articles for creation. Just click this link and follow the instructions. Pppery 21:31, 15 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
You can add your company to the list at WP:Requested articles, and another editor who is neutral may create a page about it. You should read WP:GNG and WP:CORPDEPTH to see if it is notable enough for inclusion first. Α Guy into Books § (Message) -  21:54, 15 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
