Mistakenly changed User name

[edit]

I was attempting to put a biography page for Ken Carl (photographer) https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/User:Ken_Carl from my sandbox to the main namespace/encyclopedia and accidentally redirected/renamed it User:Ken Carl instead. Ken Carl is not a Wikipedia editor and was/is not involved in the creation or editing of this article. What's to do to get this out into the world properly designated? I am Washougal Boy. Washougal Boy (talk) 03:01, 23 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I see that you created a version in mainspace at Ken Carl too, so I've tagged User:Ken Carl for speedy deletion under criterion WP:G6. --David Biddulph (talk) 03:09, 23 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I have deleted that invalid user page and its talk page. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 06:28, 23 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Definition. Word Protocol, Usage and applied meaning

[edit]

A transgender person does NOT alter themselves; stay how God created them; TRANSSEXUAL changes themselves sexually. Not all trans want dysfunctional sewn on sex appendages. They use prosthetics. Civil Rights, Criminal Hate Crime laws applies to "actual or and perceived" GENDER (TRAITS) NOT sex parts IDENTITY! See Title 18 USC, Chapter 13, sections 241-249 for laws. Correct your information on this on the Internet. If Justice department sees incorrect applied meaning being circulated, you could get FINED! In 2012, Menards Hardware store was fined $750,000 just for not hiring African Americans in their management. People do not have to change their sex to match their gender! Society doesn't define you. You or we individually tell society who we are from the inside outward! Stop objectifying gender by incorrectly nursing sex parts as who a person isn't. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2604:6000:B201:BD00:3155:CD9D:A074:DD47 (talk) 06:06, 23 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, IP editor. Wikipedia is not a platform for advocacy or a place to right great wrongs. It is a neutrally written encyclopedia. There are countless other websites where you can post your opinions. Facebook and Twitter are just the best known of them. You have strong opinions and so do I. Neither one of us is allowed to add our personal opinions to Wikipedia articles. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 06:26, 23 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

BOTS & IPs & LOGIN

[edit]

I know this is slightly embarrassing, but how do you create a bot on Wikipedia? I'd be really glad if I knew how to create them. And please leave a message on my talk page.

PS:I am the same person as Special:Contributions/2.50.114.206, Special:Contributions/2.50.218.197, and Special:Contributions/92.96.94.152, so I do not know why my IP address keeps changing. If you know why, email me at my talk page (Don't forget to respond here for all my questions.).

Glad if I knew, 92.96.170.165talk • Time email was left on page: 07:00, 23 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Please respond after this line in the appropriate spaces given.

I'll reply here, rather than on the talk page of one of your variable IP addresses. You can find out about bots at WP:Bots, and you can find out about IP address assignment at IP address#IP address assignment. --David Biddulph (talk) 08:37, 23 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
If you are User:Prahlad balaji it would avoid confusion if you were to edit while logged in. --David Biddulph (talk) 08:44, 23 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I heard you, but User:Prahlad balaji is a completely different address from this. Yes, I admit that this person is the same. But every December my family goes to the UAE for vacation. So my IP changes and I cannot login as Prahlad balaji. Even worse, my UAE computer does NOT have a password; thus, HOW can I log in? Please reply to this question. Thankfully, 92.96.170.165 (talk) 17:25, 23 December 2017 (UTC). ☺[reply]

Unless I'm missing something, if you're able to edit Wikipedia using whichever IP address you're using, then you should be able to click on the Special:UserLogin button and log into your user account. Your UAE computer not having a password does not seem any valid reason for you to not be able to click on Special:UserLogin. Like I said, am I missing something of your query here? Thanks, Lourdes 17:43, 23 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Very nice. BUT, remember trying a taste of your own medicine. The page asks me for my PASSWORD! Now what can I do? @ User:Lourdes, from 92.96.170.165 (talk) 18:09, 23 December 2017 (UTC). Please reply.[reply]

Well, at this point, you are supposed to enter your account's password. If you've forgotten the password, then click on the Special:PasswordReset reset link to recover the password. I would also gently nudge you to not provide personal details anywhere on Wikipedia – and please also read an essay giving guidance for younger editors and how not to be perceived as a troll. Thanks, Lourdes 18:33, 23 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thank You! - 92.96.170.165 (talk) 11:01, 24 December 2017 (UTC). ☺[reply]

Your IP address keeps changing because you keep moving round the world and using different computers without logging in to Wikipedia. I'm guessing that your home computer has your Wikipedia password saved on it, and will log in automatically when you get home if you haven't reset your password. Nevertheless, I recommend that you either remember or reset your password because editing with an IP address allows people to see where you have travelled. You must have remembered your password last December. Dbfirs 22:16, 24 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I am not an adult. My mom logs in to my computer. Prahlad balaji (talk) 06:38, 26 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Netflix: A Wikipedia mirror? Or vice versa?

[edit]

I notice a lot of plot summaries on several Parenthood episode articles (Parenthood (season 1), Parenthood (season 2), etc) are the same as what Netflix uses to describe the episodes. Anyone know who's copying who here? (I've been trying to change what I can, but I'd like to know if Netflix is being a Wikipedia mirror, before I put on a copyright issue tag.) Thanks for reading. -- Bwefler (talk) 07:04, 23 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Bwefler, while other editors may have more precise answers, I suspect Netflix is liberally using Wikipedia material. Your query is also quite coincidentally made one day after they've removed relevant Wikipedia links from many of their pages. For example, if you see the Netflix description page of Death Note and compare it with yesterday's Google archive of the same page, you'll notice that they've removed the line "Learn More: Wikipedia, IMDb". Hope this helps, thanks and happy holidays. Lourdes 17:28, 23 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Help:Cite errors/Cite error references no text

[edit]

I edited the 'History' of this article: https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Friedenskirche_(Hillbrow) In so doing I lost all the links I had incorporated in my narrative. Being an octogenarian and not well versed in computer handling I am at a loss now to get the links back. ( to think I had put them into the it orginally!)

Please advise!

Konrad41.22.52.96 (talk) 15:53, 23 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I have tried to repair and improve Friedenskirche (Hillbrow). Maproom (talk) 16:21, 23 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Please don't get discouraged: we appreciate your input. It's quite easy to make mistakes even if you are not an octogenarian. If you are unsure, you can just start a new section on the article's talk page, put your information and references in however you want and without worrying too much about proper formatting, and then ask for help in moving your contribution into the article. Another nice trick is to your new work into a new section in your own talk page or in a draft sub-page of your user page, play with it there until you like it, and then copy and paste it into the target article. This works because it keeps you from feeling pressure to get it right immediately, so you don't feel that you must revert yourself to fix a mistake in the live article. -Arch dude (talk) 21:03, 23 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Blockfolio page "speedy deleted" but how can I modify what I first wrote? Can't find history. Please advise.

[edit]

Blockfolio / Blockfolio.com is a new mobile app that tracks cryptocurrencies (a very important issue nowadays). It's a top 20 finance app in the GooglePlay store and deserves a wikipedia page. I included the controversy in the news about privacy protections so it wasn't unambiguously promotional. Please advise. Thanks and good karma to you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Corpania (talkcontribs) 18:24, 23 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Corpania, you can request the administrator who deleted the article, in this case Jimfbleak. Thanks, Lourdes 18:38, 23 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, Corpania. I am an administrator and could view the deleted article. It was completely unreferenced and highly promotional, and contained several unacceptable external links. There was nothing worthy of an encyclopedia article there. If you want to try again, please start by reading and studying Your first article, and be rigorous in complying with the neutral point of view. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 23:09, 23 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Lourdes, the page 'https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Category:Wikipedia_administrators_willing_to_provide_copies_of_deleted_articles' suggests Jimfbleak is not the correct person to ask (and not just in the sense of chickens not making appeals to foxes) - is that interpretation not correct? Perhaps Cullen328, who is on the list, would be willing to consider an appeal for having the deleted page returned to draft space - where it can be worked on? Both Corpania & myself are new to authoring original content for Wikipedia... but we're willing to learn (just going through the tutorials now while the matter is sorted). = D idfubar (talk) 06:05, 24 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
This article is a corporate 'we' creation. They should not be writing it per WP:COI and WP:PE. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 06:43, 24 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Well, Kudpung your concern & vigilence are appreciated... but stranger than fiction is the truth: my involvement is by way of a mutual friend of Corpania who, while involved in Blockfolio, neither requested the assistance nor has any corporate relation to the Wikipedia article (his discussion about Blockfolio in another context led to Corpania mentioning his difficulty in creating an article & my offer to try to help as best one can - as an earlier attempt to learn more about "Blockfolio" was not accompanied by an available Wikipedia page). Is there another forum - or, indeed, preferred means - that beginners like us would be expected to utilize to ask for help *after* whatever was being worked on can no longer be accessed...?
Hello, Idfubar. Yes, many things are stranger than fiction, but one thing that is clear is that the deleted article was unreferenced, and it is also clear that providing references to significant coverage in reliable, independent sources, and then summarizing what those sources say, is the basic technique for writing an acceptable Wikipedia article. Also clear is that the deleted article was highly promotional and completely unacceptable for this encyclopedia. Anyone who has any connection to the creators or promoters of a cryptocurrency has an obvious and glaring conflict of interest, and should expect strong pushback from experienced and uninvolved editors. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 07:22, 24 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, no disagreement Cullen328... but please note that (1) it was the first attempt of Corpania at authoring an article, (2) it's not possible to learn from the mistake if the facts about it are withheld, & (3) Wikipedia, at this point in its life, has processes & policies in place that address the concerns the moderators are citing - to the point of the condescenion already expressed revealing not just an open hostility without any basis/predication on the part of one moderator but something akin to condescension on the part of another. If learning - towards the ends of being able to contribute - is the goal then, in this case, having the content to revise would be the way to proceed...idfubar (talk) 07:54, 24 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
See: user talk:Kudpung#A 'Speedy Deletion' Article & A Corresponding Request For Assistance.... It neverthless looks to me now that this is evidence of corporate teamwork, especially as the article was clearly not suitable for the encyclopedia and most likely never will be. Admin shopping is also 'gaming the system'. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 07:46, 24 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Kudpung, your WP:PE shortcut was added to the target article's page; thanks for contributing.idfubar (talk) 08:03, 24 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
