Help:Cite errors/Cite error ref no input

[edit]

Article is Underwater habitat. I updated a sentence that said "citation needed" and got this error msg.

Your edit added ref tags but did not place any content between them. (See WP:REFB for a basic guide to adding refs). I have removed the tags, added an 'As of' template and restored the citation required tag. Eagleash (talk) 13:16, 20 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Tropicana Casino & Resort Atlantic City

[edit]

We would like to update our company page because it is very out of date with incorrect information, logos, etc. What is the best way to update the entire page?

Tropicana Casino & Resort Atlantic City

— Preceding unsigned comment added by Tropicanaac (talkcontribs) 14:18, 20 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Tropicanaac. Thank you for asking here. While Wikipedia is keen that our articles are correct and up to date, according to reliable published sources, please understand that it is not "your company page", it is Wikipedia's article about your company, and should be neutrally written, based almost entirely on what people who have no connection to the company have published about it. Because of your conflict of interest, you are strongly discouraged from editing the article directly; but as that link I just gave says, you are welcome to make suggestions for improvement on the article's talk page Talk:Tropicana Casino & Resort Atlantic City. Including citations to reliable published sources, preferably sources independent of your company, will make it more likely that somebody will pick up your suggestions.
Please note that there are some other policies that you are probably falling foul of: accounts should be personal to an individual, not shared; and may not have a name that suggests that they are editing on behalf of an organisation. You should probably abandon that account and create new individual ones for each of you that is planning to work on this (you don't have to use your real name: I do, but many people use pseudonyms). Also, you should declare your conflict of interest (see the link above); and if you are in any way paid for editing here, you must do so, according to WP:PAID. --ColinFine (talk) 17:00, 20 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Colin, I corrected your link to the OP's Talk page Rojomoke (talk) 22:53, 20 April 2017 (UTC) [reply]

User page images

[edit]

I think I've seen them float at the bottom of pages; I assume it's a template, but can't find it. Confession: Not that I would really know what it was I was looking for inthe first place  :) Any help, much appreciated. — O Fortuna semper crescis, aut decrescis 14:28, 20 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Fortuna Imperatrix Mundi: There's one floating at the bottom right of User talk:Fuhghettaboutit. The code for that is at the top of the page - a triple <div> and then a triple </div>. You might be able to copy and adapt that. -- John of Reading (talk) 14:39, 20 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
{{float}} can be made to do that kind of thing, too (and is easier than using HTML, IMHO). Yunshui  14:45, 20 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@John of Reading and Yunshui: Thanks for the advice; I'll give 'em ago. Apologies for not replying earlier, I didn't get that ping I'm afraid, and forgot to look in :) cheers! — O Fortuna semper crescis, aut decrescis 16:26, 20 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
H'mmm. Well; it sort of worked. But it was such a PITA I wonder how many articles coulda got written by now! :D Thanks again though. — O Fortuna semper crescis, aut decrescis 17:20, 20 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

about new article

[edit]

hi can u help me create new article — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2310ASD (talkcontribs) 15:08, 20 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

To create an article, follow these steps:
  1. Read Your first article carefully.
  2. If you don't have an account, consider creating one (it's not essential, but it makes some things easier, especially communicating with other editors) and logging in.
  3. Learn the basics of editing with the Wikipedia:Tutorial
  4. Make sure the subject is notable enough to warrant a stand-alone article
  5. Gather reliable sources to cite in the article
  6. Make sure no article on the subject exists under a different title by typing the subject into the search box and clicking 'Search'
  7. Use the Article Wizard to create a draft.
  8. Create the article, including all your references, making sure you adhere to the Manual of Style and our article layout guidelines. Base the article on what the references say, rather than on what you know.
  9. Once you believe that your draft meets Wikipedia's requirements, submit it for review by picking the "Submit your draft for review" button in the draft.
  10. Be aware that many drafts are not accepted the first time, or even the second time they are submitted for review, for failing to adhere to our policies and guidelines. New articles by new users are particularly likely not to be accepted, due to new users' unfamiliarity with our rules. Consider gaining experience by editing existing articles before attempting to create new ones. Pppery 15:09, 20 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

locked out of account

[edit]

It says an email was sent to my account to reset my password and thus will not send another one. However, I have continuously refreshed and checked my spam and it isn't here. This is a very pressing matter and I need to be in my account as soon as possible please. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 192.249.3.162 (talk) 15:25, 20 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

If you give a username at Special:PasswordReset then the mail is sent to the address stored in the account and not the Email address field. For privacy reasons it doesn't reveal whether it's the same address. Do you have another mail account you can check? I always receive Wikipedia mails in seconds when I test it. If you cannot gain access then just create a new account. See "Compromised accounts" at Wikipedia:Sock puppetry#Legitimate uses. PrimeHunter (talk) 15:42, 20 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Parker Hannifin - Edits to Boeing 737 article

[edit]

I am the global ebusiness manager at Parker Hannifin. In June 2015, We spent considerable time to update the related article with 3rd party documentation and selected edits. It was originally accepted. Recently the changes have been reverted. I was very careful to only allow changes to wording that could be linked back to 3rd party authratative sites, legal documents where this info is on public record. Please advise why this was reverted. This is important since we are trying to update our Parker Hannifin Wikipedia page in German with the same content.

Wendysoucie (talk) 15:32, 20 April 2017 (UTC) Wendysoucie[reply]

It was user @Jytdog: that appears to have done the bulk of the removal ( assuming we're talking about the main Parker Hannifin article). Their main reason appears to be that the removed info was either unsourced or not a third party source. - X201 (talk)
Huh? Jytdog hasn't done any of the last 500 edits, which go back to April 2015. Nyttend (talk) 15:55, 20 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Edit conflict: I thought the user was referring to the company article. Have added clarification - X201 (talk) 15:58, 20 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I wondered that, too, but there were just two edits to that article in June 2015, and both were maintenance by bots. Nyttend (talk) 15:59, 20 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Just to clarify for posterity. The user hadn't added anything to the article. Requested edits had been made on the talk page and then denied due to the volume of requests, user didn't receive a reply, just an edit summary note. not our finest hour. - X201 (talk) 16:10, 20 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
[edit conflict] Wendysoucie, are you sure that all your data are correct? I don't see any significant edits in June 2015 to the Boeing 737 article; the largest edits are [1] (large mostly because of coding, not content updates) and [2] (removing problematic content). I don't see any other significant edits in June 2015. Would you please supply links to some of the edits you're talking about? This link includes all of the June 2015 edits to that article; click the "prev" link at the left end of a line to see what changes that edit made to the page. Nyttend (talk) 15:54, 20 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
If you look at the talk page edit requests were made back in the summer of 2015. If Parker wants to engage on the article Talk page, would be happy to talk with them there. I will leave a message at Wendy's talk page as well. Jytdog (talk) 16:02, 20 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I hope I am doing this right to respond. I spent 2 hours carefully calling out selected text both on this page and on the related page Boeing rudder issues page. We were careful to document with links to additional sources that had been updated since the original data was placed on this page. We waited 2-3 weeks, we saw that the edits we had called out were visible. They are no longer on the main page nor on the rudder page. I am beyond frustrated on trying to correct material and incorrect data that someone has put on this page. And I have in my documented notes that we did that on June 3 2015 at least for the submittal. I see no sign of that effort anywhere. Wendysoucie (talk) 18:58, 20 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I am an experienced Wikipedia editor, but I have not edited any pages related to Parker Hannifin because of a COI: I used to work there and may very well work there again. Given my COI, is there some way that I can help Wendysoucie to resolve these issues? --Guy Macon (talk) 23:22, 20 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
The relevant discussion is mostly at Talk:Parker Hannifin. --Orange Mike | Talk 00:19, 21 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
