[edit]Missing References in an Article
[edit]Hello Team I have already written this article : Dr. Abhishek Deo for a friend of mine who has achieved a lot in sports conditioning field, however I dont find how should I provide references for the same article.
Your help would be really appreciated.
Thanks and Regards — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nikhil.khanzode5 (talk • contribs) 06:31, 7 May 2015 (UTC)
- The message on your user talk page, and the box at the top of the article, have a number of useful wikilinks. In particular you need to read Wikipedia:Identifying reliable sources and Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners. I have taken the liberty of changing the url in your question into a wikilink, as that is how we refer from one Wikipedia page to another. - David Biddulph (talk) 09:27, 7 May 2015 (UTC)
Page Jeff Primm
[edit]I just created a page Jeff Primm. Not sure how to title it, find it, upload pics, and where and how to get these answers?Jeff Primm (talk) 11:05, 7 May 2015 (UTC)
- The material that you posted on your user page has been deleted as a blatant advertisement. Wikipedia is not a free webhost.--ukexpat (talk) 12:51, 7 May 2015 (UTC)
This page appears to be an advertisement for this man's website. Whatever it is, it looks dodgy. Tooironic (talk) 11:47, 7 May 2015 (UTC)
- Work done mainly by 1 editor, although no obvious declaration/implied declaration of COI. Tagged it as an advert, and it definitely needs a cleanup, research section in particular reads like an advert/resume. Joseph2302 (talk) 11:53, 7 May 2015 (UTC)
Regarding Radio Redditch
[edit]Dear who ever,
This link Radio Redditch is being updated by the new owners of the business but the old owner Rob Ison keeps trying to change the information.
Can we stop him in anyway?
Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.35.68.246 (talk) 12:56, 7 May 2015 (UTC)
- Both of you need to stop the edit warring and attempt to reach a consensus on the article's talk page. You both have conflicts of interest and are strongly encouraged not to edit the article directly.--ukexpat (talk) 13:37, 7 May 2015 (UTC)
- And the article needs references to published reliable sources independent of the subject, or else it should be deleted. - David Biddulph (talk) 13:51, 7 May 2015 (UTC)
- I've nominated it for AfD. It isn't broadcasting anywhere, is a supposedly ultra-local station with no staff. uhhlive (talk) 16:45, 7 May 2015 (UTC)
Replacing a photo
[edit]I need to replace a photograph on a wikipedia page. The building shown has been torn down and a new building has replaced it. How do you do remove an old photograph and replace it with a new one? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jennifer Esler (talk • contribs) 14:07, 7 May 2015 (UTC)
- That depends on a number of factors. Firstly, which page is it about? Because the old picture might still be relevant, especially if it relates to the history of a company or town.
- Secondly, and most importantly, who owns the photograph you want to add? Is it your photograph or not? Because if it isn't your photograph, then it's likely to be copyrighted. Joseph2302 (talk) 14:12, 7 May 2015 (UTC)
Ed Milliband vandalism
[edit]Clever vandal made it tricky to fix his shitting up the article. Don't have time to figure it out myself. Will somebody please revert the article, and ban whoever was responsible asap? Dingsuntil (talk) 15:26, 7 May 2015 (UTC)
- Related issue in this section at WP:VPT, let's keep it together. ―Mandruss ☎ 15:29, 7 May 2015 (UTC)

- That isn't an article, it's a user page- I've reported that user, as their username implies they are someone else. As for writing an article yourself, users should not be writing about themselves, see WP:COI and WP:AUTO. Joseph2302 (talk) 16:17, 7 May 2015 (UTC)
- Hi, Don Ismail. To explain a bit more what Joseph2302 has said: the page you are talking about is not an article, but a user page - the page where a person with a Wikipedia account may, if they choose, share a little about themselves. If the person who created that account was not you, then they are breaking the rules: Joseph has reported them, and it is likely that the account will be blocked and that page blanked.
- On creating an article about you: Wikipedia doesn't have an article about everybody and everything, and it does not have articles whose purpose is advertising. If there is substantial published writing about you, by people who have no connection with you, then it is possible to write an acceptable article about you; if there is not such material published, then no article about you, however it is written, will be accepted at present. Wikipedia is almost entirely written by volunteers, who choose freely what to work on: there is no "you guys" that you can ask in this way. You may request an article on the page requested articles, but there is no guarantee that anybody will pick up the request, and even if somebody does, it may take quite a time, as there is a big backlog. --ColinFine (talk) 23:26, 7 May 2015 (UTC)
Change title of an existing article
[edit]How do I change the title of an existing article? For the article in question the current title, Just in time, is just a commonly used phrase. Adding the word (Business) seems to be an attempt to add specificity to the common phrase. But it, too, is overly general. The correct title, a title consistent with all the content (and a common topic in hundreds of articles and numerous books, ome of which I would like to cite in modifying the article), must be Just in time manufacturing. So how do I make that change? Thank you — Preceding unsigned comment added by Shonzey (talk • contribs) 16:28, 7 May 2015 (UTC)
Charles Hawes
[edit]The person described in the Charles Hawes article is pretty universally known in his field as Charles Boardman Hawes. I learned of this from his grandson; my preliminary research shows that he is right, but I'm not an expert on this -- all the mentions I find of Mr. Hawes use either his middle name or sometimes his middle initial. Neither am I an expert on Authority control, but I see from my watchlist that there are things going on with Wikipedia Authority control. How can I get this fellow's entry straightened out? It seems to me that the article should be moved to Charles Boardman Hawes, that the Authority control should reference that name, and that the proper redirects should be created. All this is beyond my own ability right now. Lou Sander (talk) 16:30, 7 May 2015 (UTC)
- Hello, Lou. As with the question immediately above this one, you change the name of an article by moving it, and that will leave the old name as a redirect to the new one. --ColinFine (talk) 21:40, 7 May 2015 (UTC)
- I know how to move the article. I don't know about Authority control. Should I be concerned about it? Lou Sander (talk) 23:26, 7 May 2015 (UTC)
- Authority control is a method of linking our biographical articles to entries for the same people in other databases; see his entry in the VIAF, for example. Please don't modify anything with it — even if the authorities gave an unusual name, we still want to link it, because the point is simply to match the other databases with our page, and using a "better" name will prevent the match from happening. It's like if you're running your personal website and want to make a link to a Wikipedia article: even if you think that Wikipedia got the person's name wrong, you'll have to use the name given in the article, because using a better name will prevent your link from working. Search wildcards
[edit]I'm trying to find a way to search for instances of certain dates in articles, and I'm not really sure where to begin and/or if the built-in search feature can do what I'm after. Say that I'd like to be able to match middle-endian dates from the 20th century that aren't at the end of a line. I'd need to match the following:
[y,h,l,e,t,r][space][1,2,3,(null)][numeric character],[space]19[numeric character][numeric character][space]
I see from H:S that * can serve as a wildcard, but I'm not seeing a way to limit the wildcard to just numbers. I have found some broken links that suggest to me that there may have been some built-in GREP features once upon a time, but I'm not finding anything currently active. Any nudge in the right direction will be appreciated. —jameslucas (" " / +) 21:25, 7 May 2015 (UTC)
- Does this do what you want?
insource:/[yhletr] *[1-3]?[0-9], *19[0-9][0-9] */

- And using
{{search link}}
: search -- Gadget850 talk 21:46, 7 May 2015 (UTC)
- And using
- Okay! The search box is more powerful than I was thinking. I may need to try improving that relevant Help pages at some point. As you wrote it, I'm getting a lot of close parentheses, unsurprisingly in retrospect, but I think if I just extend it to one more lower case letter, I'll probably be scraping most of what I'm after.
insource:/[yhletr] *[1-3]?[0-9], *19[0-9][0-9] [a-z]*/
- Cheers! —jameslucas (" " / +) 22:14, 7 May 2015 (UTC)
- Wikipedia:CirrusSearch. Not obvious though, and we need to do some work here. You can also use it with AWB, but there are quirks I have been documenting. -- Gadget850 talk 00:22, 8 May 2015 (UTC)
- This is what I had been trying to find. Thank you so much! jameslucas (" " / +) 15:29, 8 May 2015 (UTC)
FA versions
[edit]As part of a WP:DRN case, I was looking at this comment.[1] It compares the current version with the version that was a featured article. I decided to do a diff and see what has changed.
When I looked at the history of Wikipedia:Today's_featured_article/February_6,_2015, is says it was selected from TFAR on Jan 17. So which date should I compare the current version to, Jan 17 or Feb 6? --Guy Macon (talk) 22:16, 7 May 2015 (UTC)
- Hey Guy. The person who posted that comment may have confused matters by using the word "recent", five months after the fact. Anyway, the "selected from TFAR" date is a false lead. It refers to the pre-existing FA's selection from the blurbs (summaries of the leads to fit the mainpage landscape) that are listed at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/requests, which has little relation with the date of promotion as a featured article. The date of promotion is November 18, 2014. Best regards--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 23:13, 7 May 2015 (UTC)
Collapsed table
[edit]I'm making a Wikitable and would like the stable to first appear hidden. How can this be accomplished? Buffaboy talk 23:26, 7 May 2015 (UTC)
- @Buffaboy: I think, [2] Mlpearc (open channel) 23:38, 7 May 2015 (UTC)
- (e/c) Hey Buffaboy. There's some introductory material at Help:Table#Collapsible tables, and more at Help:Collapsing. For making the table collapsed by default, see this section of the page; for combining collapsing with sortable tables, see this section of the page. However, please note MOS:COLLAPSE.
