Question about getting started

[edit]

I within ten minutes ago made my wikipedia account, while I am decently sure I remember there being a welcome/getting started WP:, I cant seem to find it. Can someone point me in the right direction? Cnbr15 (talk) 13:51, 26 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I have posted one of the standard welcome templates to you. PrimeHunter (talk) 15:22, 26 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Question about image caption

[edit]

I am working in my Sandbox. I was able to successfully insert some photos. How can I add captions to the photos? Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bobowikibobo (talkcontribs) 04:27, 26 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello @Bobowikibobo:, see Wikipedia:Extended image syntax for a complete description of image parameters. WP:CAPTION contains useful (but quite lengthy) guidance about caption usage and formatting. GermanJoe (talk) 04:33, 26 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
A quicker and simpler way is to open any Wikipedia section containing a similar caption in your edit window to see how it's done. You could then paste the relevant section into your sandbox and edit it to insert your own image and caption.--Shantavira|feed me 09:29, 26 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Question about patent citations

[edit]

I am trying to ensure that footnote / citation 106 in CRISPR Wiki page includes 'US Pats 8,945,839; 8,932,814; 8,906,616; 8,895,308; 8,889,418; 8,889,356; 8,871,445; 8,865,406; 8,795,965; 8,771,945; 8,697,359; US apps 14/226,274; 14/105,017; EP 2771468; EPA 14170383.5' as the actual patents and patent applications are the best evidence, most direct citation for the proposition; the article cited as footnote 106 is inaccurate, unsupported hearsay and at best a secondary citation -- not a primary citation (as again the actual patents / patent applications are the direct source, best citation, and allow the public to understand best the proposition and evaluate for themselves the patent landscape ... — Preceding unsigned comment added by 37.205.61.203 (talk) 16:30, 26 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

As you have been told before, the place to discuss the changes with other editors is the article talk page. SHOUTING in the section heading here (or elsewhere) will discourage, rather than encourage, readers from reading what you are saying. --David Biddulph (talk) 16:34, 26 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I have trimmed your request's header, as it was almost unreadable and its content was in the main text as well. Please use short, concise headers without WP:SHOUTING. Thank you. GermanJoe (talk) 06:46, 28 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Saving the USS Ranger (CV-61)

[edit]
Off-topic

Good afternoon to how this my concern.

I'm part of a group that is trying to save our ship from being scraped. The government sold our ship for 1 penny, yes 1 whole cent!

The group SOS Save Ranger (Last Chance) has people that will donate millions of dollars to save our mighty ship. but the government is saying no to us. We want our Carrier the USS Ranger to become a museum in Long Beach, Cali. Our ship is the last of her kind the first angle deck carrier and the last of the super carriers her sister ships are being cut up now in Brownsville, Texas. Our ship means everything to us and that is why I am writing to you, to ask for your support to get the message out to the Chivers across our great country and world to tell the government to put the Ranger back on the Donation list. That is all we want is to get her back onto the donation list so we can make her a museum so people can see what a super carrier looks like inside and on the flight deck and deep down in her hull.

Please go to this web page and sign our petition so we can save her.

Thank you for taking your time to read my note.

Though the message that you posted may well be a worthy cause, it doesn't belong here. This page is for editors of Wikipedia to ask questions about how to edit this encyclopedia. It isn't a noticeboard to promote worthy causes. I'm sure that you can find many websites & social media outlets where your message would be appropriate. Good luck with your campaign. --David Biddulph (talk) 17:50, 26 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I would have favored removal, but maybe I'm just feeling cranky today. ―Mandruss  00:03, 27 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
This matter is already discussed at USS Ranger (CV-61). Cullen328 Let's discuss it 18:49, 1 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Is my Draft submitted for review?

[edit]

Hello, I am having a terribly difficult time figuring out if the draft I wrote has actually been submitted for Review to be published. I have pressed the Submit for Review button multiple times but al always brought back to the same page that asks me to Save again. Please help me figure out 1) if my draft is submitted and 2) if it is not, how can I submit it!

Thank you — Preceding unsigned comment added by Indigo Education Company (talkcontribs) 23:07, 26 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Indigo Education Company: Your draft is currently not submitted for review. When you click the green "Submit for Review" button, you need to then scroll down and save the page (via the "Save page") button as you would any other edit. That being said, I noticed your username appears to represent a company - usernames on Wikipedia need to represent you as an individual, not a company or any other organization. I'll leave you a message on your talk page with more details on how to fix this. Thanks! ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 23:10, 26 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Nor should it be submitted in its current state. While it has no references to reliable third-party sources, it will certainly be rejected. Maproom (talk) 23:59, 26 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I see that (despite the advice above) a draft has been submitted for review, with "references" being one press release and two LinkedIn pages, but no reliable sources. Why do people ask questions here and then ignore the advice they are given? - David Biddulph (talk) 03:28, 28 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
