Images and Copyrights

[edit]

Hello All, If I want to upload an image for a page I am creating, how do I find which copyright license it should be labeled as? I know the photographer who has given me verbal permission to use the image, and they have also posted the image on their flickr account in a public domain. The only other image I have has been deleted off the wikipedia site. Can I ever reload this one with appropriate copyright information? Thanks for your help... JSOR11 (talk) 01:47, 10 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Copyright licenses are easiest dealt with on an image-by-image basis. What is the Flickr URL of the former image? (Verbal permission is not enough, but Flickr in Public Domain should be.) Who is the creator/owner of the latter image? /~huesatlum/ 02:34, 10 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
If the work exists on Flickr with a suitable licence the easiest way to get it uploaded is to use this form on Commons. If the work does not have a suitable licence on Flickr then you need to get your friend to change it. SpinningSpark 09:08, 10 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Is polaris (the youtube network and sub-network of maker studios) a notable enough for a wikipedia page?

[edit]

To my surprise i discovered that polaris didn't have it's own wikipedia page (and i've also looked for it's former name, the game station) so i thought, let's create it myself, but i can't figure out if it'd be considered notable, since it hasn't suffered from genericization and as far as i know hasn't been the subject of "multiple non-trivial published works whose source is independent of the company offering the product or service";
but on the other hand, it is a sub-network of Maker Studios and has people in it like The Yogscast, TotalBiscuit, the Game Grumps, and PewDiePie.
so, i need to know if this is notable enough for a wikipedia page.

The minimal criteria for a stand alone article are that third party reliable sources have specifically covered the topic in an in depth manner. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 02:57, 10 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Could someone please appoint me a mentor to help in editing Wikipedia?

[edit]
Can someone be my mentor on wikipedia? because I'm not good at editing and I have been warned I could be blocked from editing? I'm a disabled woman. Please help me. Venustar84 (talk) 19:32, 10 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The process for mentoring is at WP:MENTOR -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 20:26, 10 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Edit article page title

[edit]

Hello, I just had a page reviewed and approved, but the title was changed by having "The" added to the title before the company name. Could you let me know how to edit the title? Thank you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Leigh131423 (talkcontribs) 19:34, 10 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I've done it for you. You have to MOVE the article to a new title. SpinningSpark 20:05, 10 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I have provided references. Why do you keep asking for 'a reference'?

[edit]

I have just written a biography of Dr Ram Harijan, giving 5 references. But I am getting a message that it is due for deletion because there is no reference?! Please explain. — Preceding unsigned comment added by BinaKundra (talkcontribs) 21:15, 10 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, BinaKundra. The notice was still there because the the code {{prod blp/dated|...}} that generates it was still there. I've removed it because you have added sources. Keep in mind, though, that the article could be deleted for other reasons. (Also, I've moved it to the name Ram Harijan because Wikipedia doesn't put titles like "Doctor" in article names.) Anon126 (notify me of responses! / talk / contribs) 21:28, 10 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
In other words, the message remains because it's created by the code that Anon126 mentions — it's not something that our software adds automatically. Nyttend (talk) 05:00, 11 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Template?

[edit]

I may be imagining this, but I seem to remember once seeing a template for converting amounts of money from the past into their present values. Now I can't locate it though. Can anyone point me towards it, if it exists? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.130.66.21 (talk) 22:54, 10 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I believe Template:Inflation is what you're looking for? ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 23:01, 10 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Oh yeah, that looks like it, thanks! 86.130.66.21 (talk) 01:19, 11 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
