Whit Bissell

[edit]

I checked Whit Bissell and his age at death is 27 it should be 87. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jackslearning (talkcontribs) 01:55, 4 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I have reverted vandalism to Whit Bissell. It's actually 86 after all the dates were corrected. PrimeHunter (talk) 02:08, 4 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Insert an image

[edit]

How I Insert a image in wikipedia????? — Preceding unsigned comment added by GDYA (talkcontribs) 03:20, 4 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • If you want to upload an image from your computer for use in an article, you must determine the proper license of the image (or whether it is in the public domain). If you know the image is public domain or copyrighted but under a suitable free-license, upload it to the Wikimedia Commons instead of here, so that all projects have access to the image (sign up). If you are unsure of the licensing status, see the file upload wizard for more information. Please also read Wikipedia's image use policy.
  • If you want to add an image that has already been uploaded to Wikipedia or Wikimedia Commons, add [[File:File name.jpg|thumb|Caption text]] to the area of the article where you want the image to appear – replacing File name.jpg with the actual file name of the image, and Caption text with a short description of the image. See our picture tutorial for more information. I hope this helps. -- John of Reading (talk) 08:03, 4 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Why did the following pages appear this morning in Category:Articles with missing files?

Ansel Elgort - nothing was changed on image

Nothing was changed:

Interstate 110 and State Route 110 (California) [1]

Path Grant Deed [2]

John Romero [3]

Roosevelt family [4]

Street art [5]

Thanks - --Frze > talk 07:47, 4 January 2014 (UTC) @John of Reading:[reply]

@Frze: All these articles contain redlinked images (except the last, which instead contains a blank entry in a gallery). With a little digging, I found in each case that the image had been uploaded to Wikimedia Commons and later deleted. -- John of Reading (talk) 07:59, 4 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@John of Reading:: Thanks. Is there a Bot to remove this red-linked images in articles? Or must it be done always manually? --Frze > talk 08:03, 4 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@Frze: CommonsDelinker (talk · contribs) is supposed to do this job. I don't know why it missed these cases. -- John of Reading (talk) 08:10, 4 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@John of Reading: Thanks - Please take a look: Roosevelt family - there is only one correct image and no redlink - Frze > talk 08:15, 4 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@Frze: Look above and below the text "Arms of Theodore Roosevelt" -- John of Reading (talk) 08:19, 4 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@John of Reading: Thanks - it's my color blindness in the morning. :) --Frze > talk 08:32, 4 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

WHAT IS MEANT BY TALKBOX AND SANDBOX AND WHAT CAN I DO WITH THAT — Preceding unsigned comment added by Brindhaezhil (talkcontribs) 08:39, 4 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Up at the top right there is a "Talk" link to your talk page, a page where other editors may leave you messages. I've just begun that page by leaving you a "Welcome" message with some links you may find useful. The "Sandbox" link will create a page which you can use for learning how to edit. There's more on this at Help:Using talk pages and Wikipedia:About the Sandbox. -- John of Reading (talk) 08:48, 4 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I suspect, based on your question, that you found one of our over 4 million articles and thought we were affiliated in some way with that subject. Please note that you are at Wikipedia, the free online encyclopedia that anyone can edit, and this page is for asking questions related to using or contributing to Wikipedia itself. Thus, we have no special knowledge about the subject of your question. You can, however, search our vast catalogue of articles by typing a subject into the search field on the upper right side of your screen. If you cannot find what you are looking for, we have a reference desk, divided into various subject areas, where asking knowledge questions is welcome. Best of luck. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 13:56, 4 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Previously there was page entitled Hobbs End. In that page there was a correct and factual statement and link the said "Hobs End is the also name of an musical album produced by Requiem For Delinquency. This is correct. Why has it been removed and now repointed to Segal's page? I represent the artist. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Chancead (talkcontribs) 21:20, 4 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The page was deleted after the discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Hobbs End on 29 October 2013. A new page was created and later moved to Hobbs End (film). This was in turn redirected after Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Hobbs End (film). The real issue is whether the album is notable in the wikipedia sense. If you have significant coverage of it in reliable sources that are independant of the band or artist, (or that it fulfills any of the criteria at WP:MUSIC) you could post them at Talk:Hobbs End or, since that is the talk page of a redirect and won't be looked at often, here; or use articles for creation perhaps to suggest Hobs End (album). As a representative of the artise you have a conflict of inerest and should not create or edit such a page diectly. DES (talk) 21:41, 4 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

How to create a multi-row multiple image

[edit]

Hi, I'm wondering if it's possible to create a multiple-image like the one on this page, except with more than one row. I've done it in the past using the photomontage (see this article), but I'm wondering if it's possible to do this using the normal multi-image format. Thanks! Delaywaves • talk 23:42, 4 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Delaywaves: Do you mean something like this? ~HueSatLum 02:38, 5 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
That looks excellent! Thank you very much. Delaywaves • talk 03:05, 5 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@HueSatLum: One more question: do you know how exactly the image sizing works in that template? I'm not sure how to reduce the size of the images that I plug in. Delaywaves • talk 03:23, 5 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
You enter the image's dimensions at full resolution, and the template does all the calculations for you. (I've never actually used this template before, so this is all what I have gleaned from the doc page.) ~HueSatLum 03:40, 5 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Well...I probably should have read the doc page more carefully. Thanks again. Delaywaves • talk 04:51, 5 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
