[edit]Removal of Unauthorised Religious Images
[edit]Hello Team Wiki
Remove the images mentioned in below link as they are against Islamic believes of displaying images of Prophets and their apostles.
The images displayed are neither approved by the people of Islamic faith nor have we granted any such requests.
http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/File:Investiture_of_Ali_Edinburgh_codex.jpg http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/File:Balami_-_Tarikhnama_-_Battle_of_Siffin_(cropped).jpg
Have the images removed at the earliest to avoide any disconcent amongst muslims.
Regards

- Please read WP:NOTCENSORED. We neither request approval for images from religious (or other) organisations, nor remove them on request. AndyTheGrump (talk) 01:41, 12 October 2013 (UTC)
- We do respect copyright law, and we take care to remove material which is, or which might be, in breach of it. But both images were published over 500 years ago, so no copyright law applies to them. Maproom (talk) 07:26, 12 October 2013 (UTC)
Lack of bias and improper linking in Sparkman High School page related to recent student death
[edit]This reference (^ Boy, 15, kills himself after ‘facing expulsion and being put on sex offender registry’ for STREAKING at high school football game, by Lydia Warren, 10 October 2013, The Daily Mail) links to a British page which is a tertiary source referencing a Huntsville, AL news channel. However, WHNT has removed the article due to lack of accuracy and liability concerns. This should be removed and page locked until official statements from local authorities are available. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.1.25.129 (talk) 02:53, 12 October 2013 (UTC)
- Somebody has already removed the contentious information, though for a different reason, explained on Talk:Sparkman High School. Articles are not locked (we call it protected) unless there is persistent vandalism on them. --ColinFine (talk) 18:18, 13 October 2013 (UTC)

- Done. Next time, when you hit "edit", just follow/copy the format from other entries. And be happy it wasn't a table! Those are a bitch to edit. Drmies (talk) 03:12, 12 October 2013 (UTC)
Language changed from English
[edit]Hi
I recently changed my language settings by clicking on the gear icon next to 'Languages' on the leftmost sidebar in the Vector theme, and choosing 'British English' for the display language.
Ever since then, on a great many[1][2][3][4] Wikipedia pages[5], I get a box popping up on the page saying 'Language changed from English'.
I am experiencing this in Chrome (v 29, Linux), and Konqueror (v 4.11.1, Linux) but have not tried other browsers or operating systems.
Has anyone encountered this too, and is there any way to switch this off? (other than reverting my language choice).
Thank you

- It doesn't answer your question but note that the setting doesn't affect article text and British English is not recommended. See Help:Preferences#User profile. PrimeHunter (talk) 09:51, 12 October 2013 (UTC)
unanswered edit request
[edit]Hi. Over a week ago I made an edit request for the Tyson Apostol article and it still does not appear to have been answered yet. I've been watching the page's history and it seems that one user has made a few small improvements to the article since I made the request, but he doesn't seem to notice the request itself. So, someone knows that the article exists, but doesn't appear to ever watch the article's talk page. The changes that I have requested are not very big and the article itself is only of minor importance, but one of my requests may involve addressing some BLP and citation issues, so I think that making some of these changes are essential. The other recommended changes are just minor touchups to the article. Anyway, is it possible to get someone to take a look at this? I hope I don't appear to be pushy or demanding about this, but I know how important it is to make sure biographical articles are reliable. Thanks for your time. Sincerely, 108.95.130.150 (talk) 06:36, 12 October 2013 (UTC)
- Hi, per your request, I've replaced the outdated source with the link you've provided. I've made some other changes too. Will detail on appropriate talk page. Some of your suggestions I did not address, so if there are any other Help Desk volunteers who wish to weigh in, please do so here. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 07:10, 12 October 2013 (UTC)

Undo 2 or more Versions
Vielen Dank und schönes WE --Frze > talk 07:11, 12 October 2013 (UTC)
- @Frze: Hello, I'm not sure if you intended to post your question on the English Wikipedia, but you did. Can you please translate your question into English, or re-post it wherever you originally intended to post it? Thank you, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 07:29, 12 October 2013 (UTC)
- @Cyphoidbomb:I am a rollbacker. So you could revert/undo two or more versions in one quick step, but it is impossible to correct something. Undo is possible only for the last version, and it allows me to correct the revert. My question: The german Wikipedia has the tool "Rückgängig" for more versions with possibility of correction. The english Wikipedia needs the tool Undo 2 or more Versions. If you will do it, it is very difficult to go in the history to check the last versions, then edit one, click the button "Show changes"... Three or more steps. Maybe this is a question for the village pump. --Frze > talk 07:50, 12 October 2013 (UTC)
- I can do this in fewer steps with navigation popups. From the history page, I can point at the date/time link of the relevant old revision and pick "Actions > Edit this revision" from the pop-up menu. -- John of Reading (talk) 08:40, 12 October 2013 (UTC)
- @Frze:I think that the equivalent of 'Rückgängig' is 'undo'. (And 'undo' is different from 'revert'(rollback)). 'Undo' allows you to undo multiple revisions and also allows you to correct. To undo: go to history → select the revisions using radio buttons → click 'Compare selected revisions' → click 'undo'. (And I believe that you will have to do all these steps with 'Rückgängig' as well). Also see Help:Reverting#Undo. Hope this helps.···Vanischenu (mc/talk) 20:18, 12 October 2013 (UTC)

Ann Winterton - parliamentary career
[edit]Why is it every time i put a few words on her career, it is deleted. I have 3 sons in the army who have served in Irag and Afghanistan and I am gratefull to Winterton for the work she did in promoting safer vehicles, without her efforts many more would have been killed or badly wounded. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.12.29.76 (talk) 09:38, 12 October 2013 (UTC)
- To add an accomplishment, to a person's article, usually requires a bland, non-promotional statement as a plain fact, plus a footnote which names a document or webpage, to verify the information, as:
- She wrote about safety.<ref>"Vehicle safety". ''New York Times''. 28 June 2011.</ref>
- Otherwise, a claim of doing something very important in page "Ann Winterton", without a reftag footnote, is likely to be deleted. -Wikid77 (talk) 10:51, 12 October 2013 (UTC)
- Yes, Wikid77 is right, though I think they could have been clearer. If I search for "Ann Winterton IED protection vehicle" I find a couple of references that show that she asked a parliamentary question about them, so that fact could go in the article (though on its own it's probably not noteworthy, as MP's ask many questions on many subjects). But I don't find any reliable sources which say that she did more than that (there are several hits on a site called Defence of the Realm, but that appears to be a blog. Blogs are usually not regarded as reliable, because there's no editorial control). If you can find a reliable source which says that she was instrumental in increasing the deployment of vehicles, then you could introduce the information into the article again, with a reference to the source - but you shouldn't use an evaluative term such as 'leading' unless the reliable source says this. I hope this makes it clearer. --ColinFine (talk) 18:33, 13 October 2013 (UTC)
Sharing WP pages to social websites
[edit]Can pages from Wiki be shared to social media? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Simone Platzke (talk • contribs) 10:12, 12 October 2013 (UTC)
- Of course. Just copy and paste the URL. AlexTiefling (talk) 11:20, 12 October 2013 (UTC)
- Sharebox is a script that reorders your toolbox. It adds new buttons that make it easier to mail, print or share an article on Facebook or another linksharing service. You must have an account to add Sharebox to the sidebar. See User:TheDJ/Sharebox for more information. PrimeHunter (talk) 12:28, 12 October 2013 (UTC)
Von Glocken
[edit]Sudatenland Bohemia I made ref to Von Glocken Bohemia who left that area because of religous persecution 19th centuary. Up until 1910 some of that name survived. I gave you this information as some were Army officers in Hungarian army during war against Prussia. It very possible some were in WW1 German Army. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Joerightjustice (talk • contribs) 10:35, 12 October 2013 (UTC)
- There is no page for "Von Glocken" so which article do you mean? -Wikid77 (talk) 10:57, 12 October 2013 (UTC)
- This user tried adding the family name to the category page. There isn't an article on the Von Glocken family, presumably because they haven't been deemed notable. AlexTiefling (talk) 11:21, 12 October 2013 (UTC)
I know from recorded documents the name Von Glocken did exist.Maybe more evidence is required but here are other`s of that name. Die Glocken vom Hochwald (Glocken von der Moritzkirche Baroness Von Glockenbach.
Pushpin map help plz!
[edit]Hi all,
I'm currently working on Union of Italian Jewish Communities. The corresponding article in the Italian language Wikipedia - it:Unione delle comunità ebraiche italiane - has a pushpin map locating the towns and cities in Italy that have individual community associations affiliated with the Union. The image File:Italy provincial location map.svg is used across Wikipedias. I've tried my damnedest to import the pushpin map layer code, starting with a single location like Casale Monferrato and its en.wp geo-data, then, erm, starting again with a single location like Casale Monferrato and its en.wp geo-data, but no luck.
Could some kind person possibly help me out with this? Pete aka --Shirt58 (talk) 12:16, 12 October 2013 (UTC)
- Checking to use {Location map+} for mapping: I am trying to use Template:Location_map+ to put the town dots on the map, but I am also having trouble with towns dropping far below the map, as several lines lower for each dot. I have another mapper, Template:Location_map_all, which I will check for alignment, as an alternative template which will display the town dots correctly on any browser. -Wikid77 (talk) 16:11, 12 October 2013 (UTC)
Feedback
[edit]Dear editors: A question at the Teahouse led me to this talk page where several messages have been left for the user about "feedback" It looks as though the messages have been left using a script of some kind, since they all have the same format. However, the link in the section header is to a nonexistent page. Is there a "feedback" page somewhere that this should link to? Is this related to the "Enable feedback" link on the left menu of an article? —Anne Delong (talk) 12:44, 12 October 2013 (UTC)
- It was part of a former feedback system no longer in use. mw:MoodBar#2013 says "February 5: Undeployed from the English Wikipedia". The links worked at the time but special pages (those starting with "Special:") are software-generated with no page history or deletion logs. Special:Log/Kennyzwong confirms the user gave feedback when the system was operational, but that log is the only way I know to currently see anything about the feedback. [edit]hello ,one of my classmates name is on that wikipedia page please take it of?! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2.122.196.40 (talk) 12:49, 12 October 2013 (UTC)
- Have you tried to edit that page to remove the name, by click "[edit]" and then backspace over the name until it is gone? -Wikid77 (talk) 13:18, 12 October 2013 (UTC)
- Fortunately an astute editor removed the name (twice) from the unspecified article, lest we'd all be wondering what this visitor was talking about. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 14:32, 12 October 2013 (UTC)
Referencing an article
[edit]Is it OK if I reference an existing Wikipedia article as a reference for my own article ? Rkmallik talk 13:46, 12 October 2013 (UTC)
- I'm not sure if your article is to be in Wikipedia, or outside it, but in both cases the answer is no. Wikipedia is not a reliable source, however, it contains links to third party articles, so you should check the point you are making is covered by these articles, and cite them instead. See WP:CIRCULAR for a fuller explanation, Arjayay (talk) 14:14, 12 October 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for the reply. I will keep them in mind Rkmallik talk 15:27, 12 October 2013 (UTC)
Solution for Name Dilemma/Ambiguity
[edit]I have created a page named "The Dakshana Foundation". But if I search "Dakshana Foundation" in Wikipedia, its not showing my page and asking to create a new page in the name "Dakshana Foundation". I want to show my page in both the search. What's the solution ? Thanks Rkmallik talk 15:25, 12 October 2013 (UTC)
- The title "Dakshana Foundation" was a redirect from April 2012 to a person's name, but I have re-redirected it to page "The Dakshana Foundation" (with word "The"), and now the search will directly display the new page. -Wikid77 (talk) 15:40, 12 October 2013 (UTC)

Arnis did not originate from India
[edit]Don't know if this is the right place for me to correct your entry in the subject "Arnis". I wonder where did you get the source that Arnis came from or postulated from Silambam of India. Although both employ stick there are no similarities from the two.
Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.100.155.28 (talk) 19:40, 12 October 2013 (UTC)
- The place to discuss the article Eskrima (to which Arnis redirects) would be on Talk:Eskrima. The origins section now cites a source entitles "BRIEF HISTORY of FILIPINO KALI (Arnis, Eskrima)" with a link. I have no idea if this is a Reliable source or not. Do you have a source that says that the two are different? If so, I would advise listing it on Talk:Eskrima. DES (talk) 19:52, 12 October 2013 (UTC)
