[edit]Fraud
[edit]"to do" prompt?
[edit]Is there any way that I can set up a "to-do" list that prompts me the way someone posting on my talk page does, without my pinging myself from a sock, that will remind me I have things to do without my having to remember to check my to-do page? Thanks. μηδείς (talk) 01:49, 24 June 2013 (UTC)
- Could you just post on one of your own user pages, something like this?
- === Subsection heading that tells you what your to-do item is ===
- {{replyto|Medeis}}
- I don't think there is any notifications that you can set to happen at certain intervals, for example once-a-week, to remind you. There is a link to suggest new features at WP:Notifications. You could make the suggestion there, or ask if it already exists. RudolfRed (talk) 06:01, 24 June 2013 (UTC)
Conversion templates
[edit]Where do I find conversion templates. Or, how do I make one? Ex nihil (talk) 04:24, 24 June 2013 (UTC)
- See WP:CONVERT. For anything more specific, we'd need some more details from you as to what you intend on converting. Dismas|(talk) 04:32, 24 June 2013 (UTC)
Sydney FC Wikipedia Page Box Problems
[edit]Hi,
Could some one check out our Wikipedia page and tell me what the problem is with the box where we have the sponsors - Adidas / Webjet and Destination NSW.
I can't seem to get them to go straight.
Many Thanks DavidOfficialSydneyFC (talk) 07:12, 24 June 2013 (UTC)
- I have repaired your broken table, and also changed the internet url in your question to a wikilink. In view of your user name, you may need to read WP:COI and WP:CORPNAME. Note also that it's not "your" Wikipedia page, it is a page about your club, see WP:OWN. - David Biddulph (talk) 07:55, 24 June 2013 (UTC)
Wikipedia failing accessibility guidelines
[edit]Not sure if this is the correct place to post this.
I've just been checking how well Wikipedia conforms to web accessibility guidelines, using the Wave tool provided by WebAIM. I was shocked to see that our Main Page fails with no less than 6 errors and 89 alerts - see http://wave.webaim.org/report#/www.wiki.riteme.site - can something be done about this? Apologies if this has already been covered somewhere, but it strikes me as pretty serious! --rossb (talk) 07:47, 24 June 2013 (UTC)
- As far as technical issues with how Wikipedia runs, those are usually best brought up at the Village Pump (technical). Dismas|(talk) 07:59, 24 June 2013 (UTC)
- There seems to be a few false positives - It lists the Wikipedia symbol as having no alt text, but I can see some.... Mdann52 (talk) 08:25, 24 June 2013 (UTC)
- WP:WikiProject Accessibility is probably the best place to take this issue. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 08:40, 24 June 2013 (UTC)
About help to check the creation of a new template
[edit]I'm trying to create a new template for WikiProject Biology, the page is Template:Subtitle/Taxon. As I am not an expert in this kind of creation on wiki, could anybody help me to make it works. Thanks for your help Bastaco (talk) 12:07, 24 June 2013 (UTC)
- I'll see what I can do. Mdann52 (talk) 12:22, 24 June 2013 (UTC)
- @Bastaco: Done hopefully. Mdann52 (talk) 12:37, 24 June 2013 (UTC)
- @Mdann52: Great job, thank you for your help!! Just one detail about the presentation: still not have the comma between the terms in the subtitle. Bastaco (talk) 13:56, 24 June 2013 (UTC)
Grammar checking
[edit]Hello Helpdesk.
The English language is not my native language. I wonder if there's some sort of a wiki-integrated tool to help me out write grammatically better sentences. I check for spelling using a Firefox plug-in. But I have no quality tool for grammar and sentence building.
Thanks! Gretchen Mädelnick (talk) 13:02, 24 June 2013 (UTC)
- There is no automated tool that I am aware of but there is this Project page where you can request a copyedit: Wikipedia:WikiProject Guild of Copy Editors/Requests.--ukexpat (talk) 14:18, 24 June 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks, in case of dire need this would be helpful. Gretchen Mädelnick (talk) 16:20, 24 June 2013 (UTC)
- You might also want to use this firefox addon. -- John Broughton (♫♫) 14:39, 24 June 2013 (UTC)
- I looked into it but it looks discontinued. It certainly isn't maintained lately. But appreciate the effort. Thanks. Gretchen Mädelnick (talk) 16:20, 24 June 2013 (UTC)
- I've heard good things about this firefox addon as well. Technical 13 (talk) 16:57, 24 June 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks again. I'm using that one already next to the same standard installed native language plug in. But that's only for the spell-check. For grammar I've used an online grammar checker, but they are too lightweight of nature.Gretchen Mädelnick (talk) 17:22, 24 June 2013 (UTC)
Milestone Communications
[edit]I am trying to create an article about a friend of mines company Milestone Communications. I used language from their website; http://www.milestonecommunications.com/ and included it in my references. I was alerted saying that the language I used was also found in another online article/website that I had never heard of before. How do I write a non-biased article without using anything from their website?
Sincerely, Danielle Mock — Preceding unsigned comment added by Danimock (talk • contribs) 16:21, 24 June 2013 (UTC)
- You have to write it in your own words rather than copying or closely paraphrasing copyright material. Even if you obtained permission to use the copyright material per the process at WP:IOWN, it would probably be too promotional/non-neutral to be used on Wikipedia. I suggest that you use the WP:AFC process to re-create the article, so that it can be reviewed by other users first. You also have a bit of a conflict of interest, so please also take a look at WP:COI.--ukexpat (talk) 16:26, 24 June 2013 (UTC)
- Please also look at WP:NCORP. Unless the company fulfils the criteria there, it is unlikely to be an appropriate subject for a Wikipedia article. - Karenjc 19:06, 24 June 2013 (UTC)

Cannot find user
[edit]Hi everyone,
I'm trying to log into my account to delete something in my Sandbox, but Wikipedia keeps telling me there is no user by the name. Any ideas on how I can access my account? Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 156.111.46.35 (talk) 18:15, 24 June 2013 (UTC)
- User names are case sensitive except for the first letter so make sure you are using the same case as when you created the account. What account are you trying to log into? RJFJR (talk) 18:36, 24 June 2013 (UTC)
- I'm guessing it's User:Coolleen516.--ukexpat (talk) 19:18, 24 June 2013 (UTC)
- The enquirer mentions a sandbox, so it's more likely User:Coolleen516/sandbox. Britmax (talk) 21:24, 24 June 2013 (UTC)
Tawan W. Davis
[edit]Tawan W. Davis (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) Hello,
I created the article, Tawan W. Davis in April and has not been reviewed and is tagged as such. It is also still in the orphan status even though there is an article that links to it.
What do I do to change the status of the article? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jill kennebrew (talk • contribs) 20:34, 24 June 2013 (UTC)
- I'll take a look at it. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 20:44, 24 June 2013 (UTC)
- Done It could use a few more references - some paragraphs don't have any. Try to find a few articles that can be linked so that the Orphan tag can go. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 20:58, 24 June 2013 (UTC)

Missing ArbCom case file
[edit]Hello Help desk. I have been trying to locate a missing case file (Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests#Ebionites 2) for an arbitration case that was suspended, per this conversation with one of the clerks Wikipedia_talk:Arbitration_Committee/Clerks#Reopening a case. The case file was archived in March 2011 per this post, but the clerks can't find the file. Please help. Ignocrates (talk) 22:06, 24 June 2013 (UTC)
- Are you looking for [1]? PrimeHunter (talk) 22:46, 24 June 2013 (UTC)
- Yes indeed. If you can paste the wiki link here, I will copy it to the clerk's talk page for them. Ignocrates (talk) 22:54, 24 June 2013 (UTC)
- Nevermind. I was able to recover the archived page myself here. Thanks a bunch. Ignocrates (talk) 23:47, 24 June 2013 (UTC)
- Yes indeed. If you can paste the wiki link here, I will copy it to the clerk's talk page for them. Ignocrates (talk) 22:54, 24 June 2013 (UTC)

Wiki article on Tyson J. Swindell
[edit]I was looking my son's article up on Wikipedia that was posted last year, and it has been deleted! How can we get it back? We did not know articles would be deleted. His article was "Tyson Swindell." Please help. Thank you, Roni Swindell — Preceding unsigned comment added by 63.97.43.21 (talk) 23:01, 24 June 2013 (UTC)
- Your son's article (Tyson Swindell) was deleted by User:Explicit on September 28, 2012 with the deletion reason Expired PROD, concern was: Vanity article that clearly fails WP:BASIC, WP:ANYBIO, and WP:ARTIST. The sources are either unreliable or barely mention subject of article. Google News search turned up nothing more.
This means that there was a WP:PROD tag on the article for longer than 7 days. PROD stands for PROposed Deletion, and is a simple way to delete articles that don't have anyone opposing deletion. However, since you've voiced opposition, I've asked an administrator to restore the article, purely as a procedure. However, if the article is not improved to fix the concerns raised, it almost certainly will be sent to articles for deletion and deleted again, after which time it won't be so easy to get it undeleted. Happy editing! Charmlet (talk) 23:23, 24 June 2013 (UTC)
- Looking at the article, I have my doubts that the subject meets the guidelines laid out in Wikipedia:Notability (music) - we'd need evidence to the contrary from independent published sources in order for an article to be justified. AndyTheGrump (talk) 23:34, 24 June 2013 (UTC)
- It has indeed been taken to AFD - the discussion is at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Tyson Swindell. Unfortunately it looks unlikely to survive the discussion unless some references can be supplied that satisfy the notability requirements that Andy has linked to above. -Karenjc 09:48, 25 June 2013 (UTC)
