Is this a Fair use?

[edit]

[1] in the article Shm-reduplication--Inspector (talk) 03:08, 17 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

A better place to go is the media copyright questions help page. I've copied your question over there, and I'd advise you to look there, rather than here, for an answer. Nyttend (talk) 03:11, 17 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Submit Article

[edit]

How do I submit, or resubmit, an article? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pparkk (talkcontribs) 05:15, 17 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Follow the instructions here: Wikipedia:Articles for creation Mlpearc (powwow) 05:19, 17 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
If you are referring to Wikipedia:Articles for creation/Neptune Society it is nowhere near ready to be moved to the main article space. It looks like an advertisement masquerading as an article. Please take a look at WP:SPAM, WP:CORP and WP:RS.--ukexpat (talk) 15:09, 17 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

What am I doing wrong? Merry Christmas from Sesame Street. Thanks! 78.26 (I'm no IP, talk to me!) 05:58, 17 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Fixed - I got AutoWikiBrowser to show me where the brackets weren't balanced. -- John of Reading (talk) 09:46, 17 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Correcting image descriptions

[edit]

What is the point of a talk page for an image? Each one has a long list of 'things that it is not' but precious little to say what it is for. I have been editing text on Wikipedia for years - thousands of such edits in fact - but have always shied away from images because Wikipedia does not make it easy to handle them. Many times I have come across errors in the descriptions of images but have not corrected them as it is not made easy to do so. Why has this situation been allowed to continue when so many other matters have been facilitated? Geopersona (talk) 06:40, 17 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Please use a heading when you start a new topic. I have added one for you. --ColinFine (talk) 09:27, 17 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
You're right: it's generally to discuss errors with the image descriptions, although of course you can note problems with the image itself. Note that you should only use or create talk pages for local images; if the image is on Commons, nobody here can do anything about it unless they already have a Commons account, in which case they're doing it as a Commons editor. For that reason, problems with an image at Commons should be on the image's Commons talk page. If you're looking at a Commons image and find a problem with the image itself, you can tag it with Commons:Template:Fact disputed, and if you find a problem image that's here at Wikipedia, use {{Disputed}}; in both cases, you should use the talk page to explain your dispute. Harvnb help!

[edit]
Resolved

Can someone correct Harvnb error of this edit. I have made something wrong there! --Tito Dutta (talk) 08:08, 17 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You have to add the |ref=harv tag ahead of the cite book template or use citation template instead. See Template:Harvard citation documentation. Correct Knowledge«৳alk» 08:13, 17 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
That worked! --Tito Dutta (talk) 08:24, 17 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Information about an artist

[edit]

HI.! Please, I need to know how can I upload the information about an artist (name, works, etc)in Wikipedia... Waiting for ur answer. Thank you very much. Kind Regards. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Diegomalex (talkcontribs) 10:12, 17 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Which artist? Or are you wanting general guidance? Nyttend (talk) 12:44, 17 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Here's some canned general advice about article creation:

A Wizard is available to walk you through these steps. See the Article Wizard.

Thank you.

Before creating an article, please search Wikipedia first to make sure that an article does not already exist on the subject. Please also review a few of our relevant policies and guidelines with which all articles should comply. As Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, articles must not contain original research, must be written from a neutral point of view, should cite reliable sources which verify their content and must not contain unsourced, negative content about living people.
Articles must also demonstrate the notability of the subject. Please see our subject specific guidelines for people, bands and musicians, companies and organizations and web content and note that if you are closely associated with the subject, our conflict of interest guideline strongly recommends against you creating the article.
If you still think an article is appropriate, see Wikipedia:Your first article. You might also look at Wikipedia:How to write a great article for guidance, and please consider taking a tour through the Wikipedia:Tutorial so that you know how to properly format the article before creation. An Article Wizard is also available to walk you through creating an article.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 13:09, 17 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Please read Lunar phase, which explains what's going on with the moon's shape. svetlana stalina a.k.a. lana peters, daughter of josef stalin

[edit]

during the seventies lana peters, a.k.a. svetlana stalina, daughter of josef stalin, lived in carlsbad california. she and her daughter regularly came into my store , first as customers and then friends. the daughter appeared to be about eight years old and was always a problem for lana as she displayed evidence of being highly agitated and disobedient. lana was very smitten by natural beauty and i sold her many mineral samples that evoked a love of natural beauty. she claimed that she put them in her kitchen window sill as examples of natural beauty. lana always appeared to be sad and somewhat lost. she tried to sell me her house and i might have, if i were financially able. her residence in carlsbad wasn't mentioned in your article and i thought that it might be information that would round out lana's residential history. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.225.140.18 (talk) 13:32, 17 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

We will need a reliable source for that. I am afraid that your personal recollection is not sufficient.--ukexpat (talk) 15:11, 17 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Editing Wrong Information

[edit]

Hi there - I am ever so sorry but I was adding some information onto the James "Jimmy" Hutchinson file but I have deleted a large chunk of information and left it blank - please advise me if I have to pay a fine etc Thanks, Daniella Winton — Preceding unsigned comment added by Supermark3t (talkcontribs) 15:21, 17 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I have restored the page. But, was it accidental? It seems you blanked the page even after posting here. --Anbu121 (talk me) 15:48, 17 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Internet sometimes disconnects when saving edit.

[edit]

I hope that I am in the right place here for my question. If not, then please accept my apologies and ignore.

I have been doing mostly minor edits, such as spelling, grammar, readability and the like, for a couple of years now. However, I have noticed that if I do even a minor edit on certain articles, say important ones like 'Oman' or 'Qatar', then I get the internet disconnection page whenever I press save. When I return to the article, my edit is not immediately there, and only appears after I have visited a completely different article and then gone back again. This never occurs if I edit a short article or one on a minor topic.

Is this a problem with my computer? Am I doing something wrong or is it to do with the type of Wiki article I am trying to edit? I would appreciate any advice you may have. Thank you. CN3777 (talk) 17:01, 17 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Possibly a problem with caching. Try to wp:Bypass your cache after saving and see if it makes a difference.LeadSongDog come howl! 18:07, 17 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Altering the page name

[edit]

I created a wikipedia page, but did not realize that one of the words in the page name was not capitalized. I do not see any place for me to edit the page title. Can anyone help me with this? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Atlantic Pictures (talkcontribs) 19:17, 17 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I renamed it for you since your account is not autoconfirmed (an editing threshold to take certain actions that is normally passed when your account is four days old and has made more than 10 edits). For future reference, pages are renamed by moving them to new target names, which preserves the page's edit history (which is why copying and pasting to a new title is a no go).--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 19:26, 17 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Large whitespace depends on browser . (images involved)

[edit]

Please take a look at this test page with different browsers.

Internet Explorer 9 (IE9) inserts a large whitespace between the title and the body of the section Sunflower, whereas Google Chrome doesn't. Which of these two browsers behaves correctly?

I encountered this inconsistency in the wild in this article. Ceinturion (talk) 19:41, 17 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Moving the Table of Contents helped quite a bit on my browser. GeorgeLouis (talk) 19:49, 17 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Rather than have a non-standard TOC placement, I reduced the size of the opening image thumbnails -- how does that look?--ukexpat (talk) 20:08, 17 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Both edits in the Doppler effect article did not change the large white space (approximately 30 line heights) between the sections "Applications" and "Sirens", when using IE9. Ceinturion (talk) 20:18, 17 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm, I don't see it in Firefox, but in IE8, I see a huge white space between "Satellite communication" and "Underwater acoustics". It is undoubtedly an image layout problem - maybe using an image stacking template for all those right side images will fix it -- I will experiment when I have a little more time.--ukexpat (talk) 20:32, 17 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

contribute story

[edit]

I was wondering could i could contribute an article on country matters and wild life for each episode I live in the country side I am very interested in all matters to do with the countryside. 212.129.92.116 (talk) 21:15, 17 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a periodical. It does not have "episodes", so I am not sure what you mean. Maproom (talk) 21:31, 17 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe the IP is referring to the STV show "Country Matters"?--ukexpat (talk) 21:36, 17 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
You are welcome to contribute an article on anything which interests you, but you are strongly advised to read WP:your first article, and to understand that the information in the article should come from reliable sources independent of the subject: information from your own knowledge is not acceptable unless it is supported by references. --ColinFine (talk) 00:01, 18 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Metadata quality assessment

[edit]

Legal system of Saudi Arabia recently became a GA and the reviewer duly posted {{good article}} on the top of the article. I have the display of the metadata script showing articles' quality assessment enabled - but for some reason I'm seeing its pre-GA status being displayed (as well as the GA icon). I've purged the cache - but it's still showing. Is it still showing as a "B" to anyone else? If so why? DeCausa (talk) 22:24, 17 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Nope – showing good article status everywhere for me. Have you tried bypassing your cache? After refreshing twice or so using Safari, I usually can get it to update the assessment rank. The Anonymouse (talk • contribs[Merry Christmas!] 22:45, 17 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
