I'm not sure where to ask
[edit]I'm after an admin to remove my edit summary if possible, it's poorly expressed, I notice it has many meanings, most of them ok, but one of them is no good. where can I ask about that ? to have the edit removed along with the summary ? Penyulap ☏ 03:10, 4 April 2012 (UTC)
- Removal of an edit can be done through oversighting or revdeletion—see Wikipedia:Requests for oversight and Wikipedia:Revision deletion#How to request Revision Deletion—but I tell you that only in the interests of full information. We don't use these tools to fix botched edit summaries (if we did I would need to make a few requests a day). Rather this is for serious matters, privacy breaches, removal of defamatory content, copyright violations and similarly situated material. What you can do is fix the edit and refer to your prior edit summary stating the problem, or, if you already fixed it, you can make a dummy edit and leave an explanatory edit summary.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 03:27, 4 April 2012 (UTC)

Libel & slander posted on our page
[edit]We need help imediantly! An unknown person has posted terrible slander about a third party on the page for American Digger Magazine, unrelated to the page content. This is twice in one week. Acehnese Wikipedia infobox country template

- I'm trying to puzzle it out now, but one thing I notice is that ace:Rusia is calling for ace:Rusia infobox rather than [[:ace:Pola:Infobox Country] with parameters. Judging by a couple pages here, the latter is more typical, although even when I try that it's still aligning to the left oddly.... Yeah, I can't fix it. But I'm curious to know what the problem is. - I know very little about CSS but I see that ace:Pola:Infobox Country is based on Template:Infobox Country which starts with
<table class="infobox geography vcard"
. This uses settings in MediaWiki:Common.css which are not present in ace:MediaWiki:Common.css. I don't know who can edit the MediaWiki namespace at ace. There are apparently no administrators. You can also add the wanted CSS directly to the template, for example copying settings from inside.infobox {...}
and.infobox.geography {...}
in MediaWiki:Common.css to the style parameter in ace:Pola:Infobox country. In [1] I copiedborder: 1px solid #aaa; float: right;
from.infobox {...}
to get a border and position to the right. If you get it into ace:MediaWiki:Common.css then revert my edit. By the way, one of ace:Pola:Infobox country and ace:Pola:Infobox Country should redirect to the other to avoid confusion. I first edited the wrong one. Dear Wikipedia,
[edit]I recently read your article about "Sea of Japan(http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Sea_of_Japan)" and was quite surprised at the title and contents about 'Sea of Japan'. It was still described Republic of Korea's 'East Sea' as 'Sea of Japan'.
However, it couldn't be named as 'Sea of Japan' because, this sea is inherently belonged to territory of Korea. The sea between Korea and Japan has been Korea's 'East sea' for over 2000 years. Here is a historical precedant for East Sea : http://www.prkorea.com/english/eastsea.html
As a member of VANK, I urge you to use 'East Sea' to describe the body of water in question or both Korean and Japanese designation simultaneously (e.g. 'East Sea/Sea of Japan') in all your documents and atlases.
Once Korea and Japan agree on a common designation, which is in accordance with the general rule of international cartography, we can then follow the agreed-on designation.

- I looked into Kristijh Kristijh's contributions to "List of armed conflicts and attacks, January – June 2012." Turns out, "List of armed conflicts and attacks, January – June 2012" alters the long standing pattern for the "List of terrorist incidents" series of stand-alone sub-articles (and not in a good way). The "terrorist incidents" topics have problems, but "List of armed conflicts and attacks, January – June 2012" makes the encyclopedic situation even more difficult. (Compounding things, the first entry to the article was added by a sock puppet). The Los Angeles Downtown Arts District is a community of downtown Los Angeles. - It's not a good article, it's largely written in marketing speak and has no references, but if you're going to replace it with something else, you need references from reliable sources describing the area (local newspapers would be fine). --Colapeninsula (talk) 10:00, 4 April 2012 (UTC)
Accutron
[edit]why do you make this so difficult to send suggestions to improve this. i donate each year because of the help you are to so many people. i heard today about the history of accutron which was derived out of the space program 50 yrs ago. now the government isn't funding this important research program that helped create so many of our wonderful inventions we use today. when i googled accutron history it came up with facebook and nothing from wikipedia. can your editors research and post it please? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 130.132.33.95 (talk) 13:10, 4 April 2012 (UTC)

[edit]Hi! I have been trying to edit the external link to Jann Browne's official site in the article about her. The link was changed (by the artist) from www.jannbrowne.net to www.jannbrowne.com. - Hi. I see the change you made to that article, but you are correct, the link wasn't changed. It is probably a mistake you made with the markup. I just made the change, and it now works. - LaTeeDa refers to your edit [2] from 1 April. If you have tried to change the link later in another edit then it didn't save. - There is no built in method for unregistered users. You can copy the url from your browser address bar, for example http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Wikipedia:Help_desk for this page, and insert it in an email.
- Sharebox is a script that reorders your toolbox. It adds new buttons that make it easier to mail, print or share an article on Facebook or another linksharing service. [edit]In citing sources, should I follow the content or the enumeration of the reference in the Reference list? For example:

Notice the citation in the last sentence. Should I switch the placement of the reference to correspond the correct number of enumeration, or should I just leave it to correspond the order of how the source was given in the paragraph? FDJoshua22 17:01, 4 April 2012 (UTC)
- The references show in the list in the order they are first invoked and are controlled by the Cite software extension. You can put the in-text citations in whatever order you desire, but adding references may change the numbering. there is no requirement for any particular order.
- IMdB is not a reliable source; see WP:IMDB.
- The URLs are showing because you have wikilinks in the title: you can't have both.

Probable spam user
[edit]User:FIITJEE is actually a private organisation. The user has been inactive for a long time. First of all, I don't think it is a valid user name since it is named after an organisation. Moreover, i dont think anybody in the organisation has anything to do with the user since one of its edits on FIITJEE defames itself. Most probably, it is a spam user only. Should it be reported? Suggested minor wording-improvement is offered, for the "My Watchlist"'s status message (which reports the total number of pages that one is Watching)
[edit]After one logs-in and hits the button at the top labeled "My Watchlist", then one sees the following status message...
"You have ### pages on your watchlist (excluding talk pages)"
...however that message might instead be phrased more accurately as something like this:
"You have ### pages on your watchlist (excluding those talk pages which you do not own)"

- No, you don't own any pages at Wikipedia. When you watchlist a page, you automatically watchlist a talk page associated with it, so the number of pages you are watching is always exactly double the number in the above quote. That's why it is written that way; the # excludes talk pages because to include them would be redundant, and it has nothing to do with ownership. --Jayron32 18:14, 4 April 2012 (UTC)

The original symptom was there are no pages which I have added to my watchlist, and yet the status message says "You have 2 pages on your watchlist", which in turn are the user and sandbox pages associated with my userID. After having reflected upon your explanation, I now agree the current wording of that status message is perfect as-is. blue background

- as per above:
- There is a bug in the latest Google Chrome version which has caused blue background on articles for readers with zoom level below 100%... you can reset Zoom to 100% with Ctrl+0 or change up and down with Ctrl++ and Ctrl+-.

My sandbox problem

- Hi Drla8th! I've just had a look, the problem was that the line had been changed. The line uses code which hides things from view: anything enclosed in <!-- (content) --> can only be seen in the edit box. The line had been changed to <!-- (content) --!> (with the extra exclamation mark), which meant that the code hadn't finished. I've fixed it for you now, so writing below the line should work again. trouble adding caption for image
[edit]I created a graph on wikipedia commons here and used it in an article here where I tried to add a caption to it (shown here)
Here is the wiki code used:

... but as you can see the hoped for caption:
