Ray Shannon in his flat, 1996: scanned and uploaded to support the Sound of Butterflies exhibit
Auckland Wikipedians meetup, Auckland Museum library
  • This month's planning began in June, in visits to Wellington, Palmerston North, and Waiouru, where I met with potential host institutions. I arrived in Auckland to begin the Wikipedian at Large year with presentations at the University's Research Bazaar event.
  • For July I was based at Auckland Museum, helping Library staff articulate a vision for Wikipedia inside the Museum. I gae staff presentations, organised one-to-one tutoring, created Wikipedia and Commons material for the Ray Shannon exhibit, and worked with photography staff to prepare collection-object photos for upload. Although lots of potential projects were discussed, I found it hard to get traction and buy-in from Museum staff, although this was possibly because I was new to the role of Wikipedian and still learning how to organise and plan events and collaborations.
