The National Dance Tinikling, the national dance, is considered the oldest of the Philippine folk dances. The dance, which comes from the countryside, takes its name and movements from the "tinikling" bird as it roams between grass steams, crushes tree branches and avoids traps set by rice farmers. Dancers skip gracefully back and forth while trying to avoid getting their feet caught by two bamboo poles.
There are many tall tales about the dance's origins. According to one story, Filipino farm workers who displeased their Spanish masters had their feet smashed by two bamboo poles. When the poles were apart, the workers would jump to avoid getting hurt. Thus, this dance was born.
Legacy ===Portal:History=== So this is my contribution to what came about the whole shebang about the leading portals being underdeveloped. This portal gets ~5k vistors daily (literally 50 times the usual amount), so it's definitely out there in terms of visibility. Anyway North below listed all of the randomized sections, so I will too, here they are:
- The image in the introduction is randomized between 5 elements, Cirt's doing. Note: It would be better if the images were directly linked to the page ascribed, but there seems to be a technical problem with that, I'm looking into it.

A large variety, and I submit it for your consideration for the Featured sticker. ResMar 00:14, 30 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- Support. Quite comprehensive. Very well done. Nice work! ;) — Cirt (talk) 15:57, 31 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- Should I go and canvass a bit more? Seems rather sluggish. ResMar 05:27, 9 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- I would say just leave neutrally-worded and matter-of-fact notices of this ongoing discussion at other talkpages of additional WikiProjects, such as sub-projects of History, for example WP:MILHIST, etc. — Cirt (talk) 18:53, 10 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- Alright, done, and along the way realized I need to look over the WikiProjects list, a lot of them have changed. ResMar 23:17, 10 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- It appears that the various related WikiProjects notified can be viewed at Special:WhatLinksHere/Wikipedia:Featured_portal_candidates/Portal:History. — Cirt (talk) 06:06, 11 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

- Good luck! ;) Cheers, — Cirt (talk) 20:12, 12 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- I wish people stopped by here every once in a while, it would make the nominations process a lot easier. Tisk. ResMar 19:28, 16 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

- Support. Very good. Mark Hurd (talk) 10:07, 17 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- Support - AFAIK meets all the criteria for a featured portal. Note that I was asked to comment here by Res on my talk page, as he noted above, and one of the featured articles, South American dreadnought race, is mine. Ed [talk] [majestic titan] 04:35, 18 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- Support - Useful, attractive, ergonomic, and well-maintained thanks to nom and Cirt. I also understand your frustration in regards to participation here. It's too bad you and others appear to be so limited in getting the message out that this featured portal nomination even exists! Stubbleboy 05:39, 19 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- Comment -- 4 supports, plus nominator, no objections or outstanding issues, after over 2 weeks of discussion being open with notices posted. I've commented in support myself, above, but I could close this I suppose if there are no other outstanding issues or objections, or indeed, objections to me closing it, within say at least leaving it open one more week. Barring that, I'd suppose anyone else previously uninvolved could also feel free to just close it, now. Cheers, — Cirt (talk) 05:19, 22 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Closing as promoted. Congratulations to all involved. BencherliteTalk 00:38, 26 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
