This article has gone through some extensive content editing and cleanup. It has a lot to offer: there are dozens of specialized, in-depth sub-articles that branch off from the main article. I think it's a great addition to WP and helps illuminate a little-known hobby enjoyed by thousands of people worldwide. -- LuckyLouie 06:56, 29 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Oppose Numerous uncited statements.-- Zleitzen(talk) 15:56, 29 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Oppose - fine article, very decent stuff, but not adequately inline cited, in my opinion. More generally, a section called "Getting started" makes the article sound like a how-to guide, which isn't allowed. Moreschi Request a recording? 17:21, 29 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Comment, a decent article, but does not seem to be up to FA quality. In particular, there appear to be too few citations, the prose is a little choppy in places, and the section noted above does read like a "how-to." - Appreciate the comments so far. I think many of the uncited statements in the article are the result of Wikipedian contributors who hold amateur licenses who may have felt that the statements are self-evident. Also many statements link to WP sub-articles that do cite sources. However, in order to meet WP:ATT the process of slogging through published FCC amateur regulations, ARRL publications, etc. to gather cites must be attended to. - Not just FCC and ARRL if you please. Wikipedia is an international site and amateur radio a thoroughly international hobby. --kingboyk 22:24, 31 March 2007 (UTC) (ex g0-something)[reply]
- Good point. - LuckyLouie 02:20, 1 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

- Also agree that it's a very decent introductory article, but not at FA standards. It can get there, but I'd bat for GA first if I were you. --kingboyk 22:24, 31 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Oppose, per above. Also ... Have a look at WP:MSH regarding section headings, which repeat the title. Expand all footnotes to include full biblio info; publisher, author and date where available, and last access date on all websources (see WP:CITE/ES). There's an External link in See also; see WP:GTL. Non-breaking hardspaces between numbers and units of measurement, per WP:MOSNUM; I did one as a sample. In the Newcomers section, you have a See also stuck in the middle of the prose. Keep at it :-) SandyGeorgia (Talk) 02:17, 4 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Oppose—The first para my eyes fell on is crying out for attribution:
"In some countries, however, amateur radio licensing is very bureaucratic (for example in India) or challenging because some applicants must undergo difficult security approval (as in Iran). Currently only the nations of Yemen and North Korea do not permit their citizens to operate amateur radio stations at all, although in both cases a few visiting foreign amateurs have been granted temporary operating authority."
Is it all like that? Tony 08:15, 6 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- This type of thing is likely submitted by well-meaning but WP-unfamiliar contributors who have read articles in technical magazines such as CQ Radio Amateur and QST where the international status of the hobby is often discussed. It can be sourced (and opinion removed) and so I have relocated it to the Talk page. Will work on it in my spare time. Again, thanks for all the suggestions!
