Zuihō class aircraft carrier

These two ships were part of the Imperial Japanese Navy's prewar policy to build ships that could be readily converted into aircraft carriers, disguising the size of its buildup. They were converted from submarine tenders before the start of the Pacific War. Shohō became the first carrier lost by the Japanese during the war while Zuihō lasted until 1944 before being sunk by the Americans.--Sturmvogel 66 (talk) 18:09, 6 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
