Wikipedia:Canada collaboration/2006

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This nomination was selected as the January 2006 Canada collaboration. (improvements)

1998 Ice Storm[edit]

A major disaster in Canada. A lot more information could be added. Could be worked to a similar quality of Oka Crisis, a recent Canadian Collaboration.

Coquitlam, British Columbia[edit]

This article is in a sad state, and includes very little information besides a picture and an infobox.

  • Okay, I agree in a general sense that it is a worthy topic, but could we hear more as to what specifically could be updated with this topic? Saying it is in a sad state (which it is) does not provide a lot of guidance as to how it should be improved. If someone could suggest sub-categories of this topic (e.g. transit info? history? Did any famous painters/writers/politicians/whatever spend significant amounts of time here? In short what makes this city unique and interesting from a Wikipedian stand-point.) is applicable, and even an Ontarionian like me might vote for the topic. ;-) Captmondo 14:54, 9 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

This nomination was selected as the March 2006 Canada collaboration. (improvements)

Canadian Security Intelligence Service[edit]

This article is of upmost importance, and for an article that should have much information, it is currently lacking majorly. CSIS has had many recent issues, such as the new Air India bombing inquiry, and are currently at the height of their activities. This article definitely needs to have tons more information.

Leader of the Opposition (Canada)[edit]

Two paragraphs is pretty weak for the position of "Prime Minister-in-waiting".

  • No question the LO is important, but what should be added to the article that isn't there already? - Greyfedora 16:08, 7 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
    • The concept of PM-in-waiting, the role of the opposition and the leader in the chamber, the creation of a shadow cabinet, the evolution of the position since 1867, etc. - Jord 18:11, 7 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
      • There may not be alot to adress, that hasnt been adressed, but the article is seems very haphazard
  • Many of the votes for this topic are stale. After what happened in March with CSIS (i.e. no significant edits), I'd hate to see April's collaboration take the same path. I've suggested on the talk page that old votes be pruned from the voting rolls, perhaps any vote older than 4 months. People who had their votes pruned can simply revote again. This ensures legitimate and current interest in the topic. I fear this topic will see no significant interest in April if it becomes the CCOTM over something more currently popular such as the Athabasca Tar Sands. --Dogbreathcanada 23:13, 24 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • I compared the articles and Leader of the Opposition (Canada) looks like a stub compared to Athabasca Tar Sands, I'd like to nominate the other, but it has to go sometimes and rules need to be followed. Even if it is ignored in April we have an exciting article collabaration coming in May (that looks to be on the way to a FA, perhaps?). feydey 20:41, 3 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Athabasca Oil Sands[edit]

Much more could be written about these oil sands given their economic, geopolitical, and environmental importance. Additionally the readability of the current article needs to be improved.

George-Étienne Cartier[edit]

Very important of course, I always wanted to expand this much more myself but I never got around to it...I probably won't be able to help anymore but it should still be expanded.

Scott Tournament of Hearts[edit]

This is a major Canadian sporting event, with growing scope each year. The current article contains little more than a list of winners. This article should include the history of the event, past venues, tournament details, notable years, etc...
