The idea for this society was conceived from two predecessors: Imperial Wikipedia Society and Michigan Wikipedians, and is related to the Campus Ambassador project. The idea was first discussed in the 12th Cambridge meetup.

CUWPS joined the Wikimedians in Cambridge at the 16th Cambridge Wikimedia meetup.
- 25 November 2012
Wikipedia Society gathering and editing workshop at Cripps Court, Magdalene College.
