Breakout Rooms

[edit]

Info Desk - Savannah Cragin (CCCC Wikipedian-in-Residence)

Savannah will be in the main meeting room to answer questions, troubleshoot issues, and move participants between breakout rooms.

Biographies– Dr. Matt Vetter (CCCC Wikipedia Initiative Committee Member)

The Biographies room will provide resources and strategies for creating and editing biographical articles of writing studies scholars. Facilitator Matt Vetter will provide an overview of the subgenre of the Wikipedia biography article, with specific attention to notability guidelines for academics, common organizational structure, and recommended sources for drafting these articles. We will use review recently created biographical articles on Victor Villanueva and Cheryl E. Ball, use template {{{{subst:academicbio}}}} to generate generic structures for drafting in users' sandboxes, and begin gathering sources on “redlinked” scholars in need of coverage as identified by WikiProject Writing. Participants are encouraged to work together, and may consider beginning a draft, or adding to an existing article, on any of the following individuals: Min-Zhan Lu, Beverly J. Moss, Jacqueline Jones Royster, Victor Villanueva, Vershawn Ashanti Young, Cynthia L. Selfe, Angela Haas, Gail E. Hawisher, Carolyn R. Miller, or may suggest another biographical subject.

Categories, Facts and Links Zoom link (If I get disconnected, just hop on to another amazing Breakout Room!) – Dr. Tarez Graban (CCCC Wikipedia Initiative Committee Member)

This room is for folks who like “the facts”! Starting at the Wikipedia Task Center, we will orient ourselves to Wikipedia’s various maintenance personae; practice categorizing, fact-checking, and hyperlinking; and transfer these skills to several articles on WikiProject Writing’s watch list.

From Lurking to Tinkering | Meet link – Dr. Dylan Dryer (CCCC Wikipedia Initiative Committee Member)

This room is for folks contemplating de-lurking and perhaps becoming wikihobbits, wikidwarves, and wikicyclopes in their own right. Dipping into a selection of stubs, C-, and B-class articles, we’ll explore and then practice strategies for targeted micro-edits, unobtrusive sourcing, solid edit notes, definitional shifts, and other strategies that build editor resilience as they aim for incremental quality improvement over the long haul.

WikiProject Writing (Zoom link) – Dr. Melanie Kill (CCCC Wikipedia Initiative Committee Chair)

In the WikiProject Writing room, we will explore the organizing and collaborative editing side of Wikipedia by exploring WikiProject Writing, our on-wiki collaboration space. We will add articles to task lists, tag articles within our project scope, assess article importance, and establish goals for ongoing collaboration.
