Automatic or Manual: Automatic supervised, initially, until sure it's working. Then unsupervised until the end of the run.
Programming language(s): Python.
Source code available: No.
Function overview: Replace misleading boilerplate messages formerly added by ACIP template to new user pages
Links to relevant discussions (where appropriate): The issue behind this has been discussed multiple times on WP:AN/I, and with the ACIP maintainer -- there now seems to be consensus to tidy up this mess once and for all using a bot. Links to discussions: see here, and also the earlier discussions here and here, and also the conversation with the ACIP maintainer: User talk:Hannibal#Misleading boilerplate text in user pages.
Edit period(s): A one-time run, since the bug in the ACIP script has now been corrected, and no more pages will be created with this error. The run will be broken into several sessions, to ease monitoring.
Estimated number of pages affected: 18,000
Exclusion compliant (Y/N): yes
Already has a bot flag (Y/N): yes
Function details: Remove the misleading boilerplate words "Hello, my background is in biology, with a main interest in snakes. I speak English. In my off-time, I listen to a lot of music, and I have discovered that Wikipedia is a very good source for information in that department. Hopefully I can help make it even better." (and some slight variations on this) from around 9,000 user pages, and replace them with "Please replace this text with something about yourself", and add a friendly message on the user's talk page reminding them that they can edit their user page.
The first part of the bot run will involve read-only cataloging and classifying the pages with the various variants of the boilerplate text in, and checking that only the specified text is being caught. The second part will involve applying the changes. A manual check will then be done to find any remaining pages with this text in: either manual clean-up, or a second bot pass (if needed) will then be done to fix the remainder.
