Automatic or Manual: Automatic unsupervised
Programming language(s): JavaScript
Source code available: User:Tanqbot/smallcovers.js (unfinished)
Function overview: Adds [[Category:Album covers under 220px wide]]
to album covers under 220px wide.
Links to relevant discussions (where appropriate): Wikipedia:Bot requests/Archive 44#Album Cover Images under 220x220 pix
Edit period(s): One time run
Estimated number of pages affected: ~28,000
Exclusion compliant (Y/N): N
Already has a bot flag (Y/N): N
Function details: Uses the API to go through files in Category:Album covers, then uses the API again to return the dimensions of the file. Files under 220 pixels wide are edited and Category:Album covers under 220px wide is appended. I don't check for {{bots}}
because I don't think there are many on image pages (I couldn't find any, anyway).
Discussion
[edit]In lieu of using this script and a bot account, I can also create a user page with a list of links to the small album covers which can then be handled by AWB over time. The bot doing the editing is my preferred method however, since 28,000 edits seems tedious even with AWB. — Bility (talk) 02:46, 7 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- Is there really a need for this category to be added to all these images, or would a list generated from the toolserver serve as well? If you really want to go ahead with the bot, I'd want to see a consensus discussion that solicited input from the people at WT:ALBUMS and WT:NFC.
- Also, BTW, there are currently 31 File pages using bot exclusion. Anomie⚔ 03:04, 7 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- Good point, editors going through a list of links on a project page isn't any different than going through a list of links in a category. Maybe I can just put the list somewhere in the albums wikiproject subpages. At any rate, I withdraw this request for bot approval. — Bility (talk) 03:26, 7 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- Ok, if you say so. Anomie⚔ 03:35, 7 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
