Automatic, Supervised, or Manual: Supervised
Programming language(s): AutoWikiBrowser
Source code available: On request
Function overview: Adds {{ITN talk}} to the talk pages of articles which appear on WP:ITN
Links to relevant discussions (where appropriate): Wikipedia:Bot requests/Archive 62#Bot request for ITN
Edit period(s): Once per day, when required
Estimated number of pages affected: About two or three per day
Exclusion compliant (Yes/No): No
Already has a bot flag (Yes/No): Yes
Function details: Adds {{ITN talk|date, month|year}} to the talk pages of articles that appear on In The News on the main page. It places it above the wikiproject banners and notices, and substitutes the current date into the template. This automatically adds the page to Category:Wikipedia In the news articles. The function is similar to DYKupdateBot adding the notice to articles that appeared on DYK. There is nothing at present which ensures that ITN articles are properly tagged, so a bot will ensure new consistency.
Discussion
[edit]I will support such a bot being created. It is definitely needed. Because of inconsistent tagging of the ITN articles.--BabbaQ (talk) 14:18, 31 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
- I support this too, for the same reasons as BabbaQ. Thryduulf (talk) 22:22, 31 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Err, AnomieBOT already adds {{On this day}}. Anomie⚔ 12:53, 1 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
- OK, that was just an added extra BabbaQ had said wasn't being done. Removed it. Rcsprinter123 (natter) @ 13:18, 1 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Rcsprinter123 where is the correct place to add this tag in the talk page per WP:TPL? Do you need me to update AWB's code first? -- Magioladitis (talk) 14:41, 1 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
- It goes at number 9 in the list on that page you linked to. I don't know if any AWB code needs updating. Rcsprinter123 (chew) @ 16:57, 1 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
- ((BotTrial|edits=30)) Rcsprinter123 please add the banner in the list at WP:TPL before trial. Please have general fixes activated and auto-tagger/unicodify disactivated in AWB. Report any problems. -- Magioladitis (talk) 19:43, 1 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
- Alright, trial is underway. As some talkpages have the tag already, only a couple of articles can be edited for this task each day, so I expect the 30 edits to take around a week to complete. The banner is already in the list on TPL, at № 9. Rcsprinter123 (interview) @ 20:50, 1 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
- One "problem" that has occurred is when on Talk:One World Trade Center, the bot added {{ITN talk}} as programmed, but could have added it as a parameter of the talk page's existing {{ArticleHistory}} (later done by Epicgenius). I will add being able to do that to the functionality. Rcsprinter123 (yarn) @ 16:51, 5 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Approved. If you need any help on AWB's side, plese contact them. I am sure you ll address any further problems reported. -- Magioladitis (talk) 09:50, 6 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
