Operator: Tresoldi
Assisted: Manually Assisted
Programming Language(s): Python
Function Summary: the bot fetches information from philosophers and schools-of-thought to generate graphics of influence between them
Edit period(s) one time run of fetching to generate the graphics, to be repeated when needed (once a month is probably more than enough)
Edit rate requested: 0 edits per day (for the time being)
Already has a bot flag: N
Function Details: This bot will be a evolution on some local scripts I have being developing, mainly for semi-automatically generating graphical relationships between philosophers/schools of thought with some third party software (currently, Graphviz). You can see an old example of my first developments on the bot user page, or in Pre-socratic philosophy. This bot is needed to ensure that each time a modification on a philosopher's box is apported, it will be carried on to any graphical relationships available. However, I don't intend to run the bot very often (once a month is probably more than enough) and will only be run manually. The code will be released under a free license, as well as the graphics generated (which is obvious, as its source will be information extracted from Wikipedia articles). A short period of more intense bandwidth usage is expected in the first days, as I develop and debug properly the fetching routines. When ready, I expect the bot to request about 500 pages on each run, with at most a run each month. I will not edit any page at this time besides the bot's own page, where I will display the graphics so it can be discussed in the Philosophy portal the more appropriate way to use them.

[edit]Tresoldi, you need to confirm that you are this bot's operator by editing this page. — Madman bum and angel (talk – desk) 03:49, 26 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Sorry about that; I confirm that I am the bot operator. tresoldi 14:07, 26 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry. I don't understand this request. Can you be a bit clearer? —METS501 (talk) 04:06, 26 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- He explains more on the bot's user page than on its BRFA... — Madman bum and angel (talk – desk) 04:11, 26 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Sorry about that, too; I updated the description to a more informative one. tresoldi 14:12, 26 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Looks speediable as not-strictly-a-bot-but-thanks-for-the-courtesy-mention, since it's not doing any editing, and it's not doing enough reading to be a crawler in the, um, bad sense. OTOH, if you only need to do this every month or so, it could be done entirely from a db dump... Alai 07:24, 2 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Agreed. Speedily Approved. No bot flag needed. —METS501 (talk) 14:57, 2 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
