[edit]This bot is going to be doing what exactly? BJTalk 05:24, 1 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- For starters, I'd like to update NBA player statistics such as those found here. Sorry for not being specific enough. —LOL T/C 05:35, 1 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- And you're going to be updating these statistics every day? Does it really need to be that frequent? --Carnildo (talk) 10:35, 1 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- I was hoping to because some editors have been trying to update them daily, but if you believe that it's too frequent then I can run it less often. What do you suggest? Biweekly? Weekly? —LOL T/C 19:23, 1 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Once a year? Once a month, at most? --Carnildo (talk) 22:39, 1 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
←In hockey articles, we only update the stats at midseason and at the end of the season. I would recommend doing something like that. LegoKontribsTalkM 22:43, 1 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Okay, how about at the All-Star break, end of the regular season, and end of the playoffs? I've changed the edit period. —LOL T/C 19:47, 2 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Where are you getting the stats from? LegoKontribsTalkM 01:00, 4 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Wikipedia:CRICKET did something similar recently. LOL might want to read up the discussion: Wikipedia talk:WikiProject_Cricket/Archive_50#Stats_bot =Nichalp «Talk»= 07:07, 12 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- NBA.com. If that's not acceptable, ESPN or basketball-reference.com should work just as well. —LOL T/C 03:28, 4 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- I'm not a legal person but, I would get permission from the websites before getting stuff from them. [1] [2] [3]. LegoKontribsTalkM 01:55, 5 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- The copyright status of sports statistics is contested. The MLB was sued for trying to prevent their usage and lost.[4] The judge said in the ruling that statistics can not be copyrighted, so based on that ruling we could ignore any claim to the contrary. Consulting Godwin would still be a good idea. BJTalk 22:03, 12 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Minor thing: Would you consider a name change to LOLbot instead of LOLibot? I don't know how many others would see this, but having seen issues with the article Lolicon (potentially NSFW), that's what immediately comes to mind for me when I see that name. Ral315 (talk) 22:51, 7 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- I originally hoped to create the bot as "LOLbot", but that name was disallowed because it's too similar to User:LolBot. I'd be happy to have it changed to LOLbot. :)
- The crats will be able to move it. Xclamation point 23:15, 29 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Approved for trial (5 edits). Please provide a link to the relevant contributions and/or diffs when the trial is complete. - Let's see how it works - just be careful w/ scraping - if you can find an API or something like that to source the data it would be better as there's no "abuse" issue there -- Tawker (talk) 22:53, 12 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- What's the status of this bot request? --uǝʌǝsʎʇɹoɟʇs(st47) 23:24, 24 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Sorry for the delay; I'm currently working on making a (non-duplicate) ref for the stats page. —LOL T/C 22:25, 26 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Any progress on this bot? RichardΩ612 Ɣ ɸ 19:06, 8 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- It's slow, but I'm still working on it. I have no intention of giving up on it. —LOL T/C 21:09, 8 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

- Request Expired. Seeing as there has been no activity on this request in just under a month, I'll mark this as expired. If you want to continue with this, undo my edit and restore to the main BRFA page. Richard0612 19:07, 5 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
