BLP created since 18th March 2010

A daily Database report showing any articles found in the category of Category:Unreferenced_BLPs_from_April_2010, Category:Unreferenced_BLPs_from_May_2010 or Category:Unreferenced BLPs that where created after the 18th March 2010. Regards, SunCreator (talk) 12:50, 3 May 2010 (UTC)

Why don't just use Completely unreferenced biographies of living people (newest) (configuration). The newest articles are on top. Rettetast (talk) 15:00, 4 May 2010 (UTC)

Renaming Primera Division Argentina season articles

As per a combined consensus at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football/Archive 33#Formal petition to change the naming conventions and Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football/Season article task force#Discussion reinitiated, I request to have the league season articles in the category Category:Primera División Argentina (the specific articles being any with the "Primera División Argentina XXXX" format) be moved/renamed to this format: "XXXX Argentine Primera División". Feel free to contact me if there is any need for clarification. Thanks in advance. Digirami (talk) 08:03, 28 April 2010 (UTC)

Just to let you know, the BRFA has passed, and the bot's approved, but I'm waiting for a 'crat to flip the 'bot' flag to finish the run so that I don't clog up RC or attract the attention of other bots. Yay for bot wars! - Mobius Clock 14:30, 4 May 2010 (UTC)

Tagging circa 850 categories for renaming

Bot help is needed to tag circa 850 categories for renaming; see Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2010 May 5#More settlements. Ideally, the bot would add (with an informative edit summary) the following code to each category:

where ProposedName is the proposed new name of the category. A less-complex (and perhaps AWB-able) option is:

Thank you, -- Black Falcon (talk) 08:05, 5 May 2010 (UTC)

Coding... a general XfD tag-on-demand bot for just this sort of thing, will file a general BRFA with reference to this run later. - Mobius Clock 15:32, 5 May 2010 (UTC)
Many thanks. Let me know if a I can help with a bot readable list of pages to tag, or the like. şṗøʀĸɕäɾłäů∂ɛ:τᴀʟĸ 19:15, 5 May 2010 (UTC)
Thanks. As a side note, many of the entries under Category:Populated places where either settlements or compound a name (like cities, towns and villages) are in the name are going to be nominated. So this will involved a lot more nominations then the current batch. Vegaswikian (talk) 19:17, 5 May 2010 (UTC)
No problem. Once the bot's approved, just send me a list as and when they need doing! - Mobius Clock 20:22, 5 May 2010 (UTC)
BRFA filed - shouldn't have too much problem, 'tis a fairly simple task. - Mobius Clock 20:48, 5 May 2010 (UTC)
Thank you! By the way, once the bot is approved, will it be able (from the standpoint of both programming and approval) to tag categories that are not related to settlements? -- Black Falcon (talk) 21:31, 5 May 2010 (UTC)
From a programming standpoint, it would most likely be a trivial change to tag other categories. As for approval, it'd probably be best to ask at the BRFA (seeing as you'd be able to give examples, etc.), I'm not sure. - Mobius Clock 22:14, 5 May 2010 (UTC)
OK, I'll comment there. Thanks, -- Black Falcon (talk) 22:40, 5 May 2010 (UTC)

Updating a table weekly

I'd like a bot to go through the following pages:

Then update the following template: Wikipedia:WikiProject Japan/Unreferenced BLP progress

Here are the rough rules for where to place the numbers:

  1. If the entry is marked with tick, then it should be tallied with all others which meet this criteria for the month and the combined total for that month listed in correct cell on the "Fixed" row
  2. If the entry is marked with cross, and it is not deleted, then it should be tallied with all others which meet this criteria for the month and the combined total for that month listed in correct cell on the "No refs found" row
  3. If the entry is has been deleted, then it should be tallied with all others which meet this criteria for the month and the combined total for that month listed in correct cell on the "Deleted" row
  4. If the entry does not meet any of the above three criteria, then it should be tallied with all others which meet this criteria for the month and the combined total for that month listed in correct cell on the "Unchecked" row

The bot would tally up how many for each row for each month, then update the Totals row and Totals column. The sum of the totals row and the totals column should be identical. If a bot could update the table weekly, that would be very helpful. This is to serve as a more complete listing (this listing is about 3x larger) than the one generated by DASHbot as not all of the articles in this more complete list have had their talk pages marked as being part of WikiProject Japan. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 01:23, 6 May 2010 (UTC)

Bot to help maintain CFD/W

Would someone please be willing to code a bot which would help to maintain CFD/W, including the following tasks:

  1. At the start of each day, add a link in the section 'Discussions awaiting closure' to the most-recently-overdue log page; and
  2. At the start of each new day, or perhaps on request (cf. Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Old), calculate and list for each day's log page the number of open discussions.

User:MathBot performs a similar function at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, and the bot's code is available here. Thank you, -- Black Falcon (talk) 04:44, 6 May 2010 (UTC)

Note it would have to be an adminbot to edit that page, because its fully protected, unless there is another idea. CrimsonBlue (talk) 05:49, 6 May 2010 (UTC)
Use transclusions for the sections of materiel that you want to include to avoid those issues. βcommand 17:26, 6 May 2010 (UTC)

Convert dates to template

This request remains outstanding. (There's a more up-to-date list of templates to act on) SmackBot started the work, but has made no such edits for some months; repeated requests for it to restart have been to no avail. The original request was made in August 2008! I'd be grateful for some help, please. Andy Mabbett (User:Pigsonthewing); Andy's talk; Andy's edits 09:30, 7 May 2010 (UTC)

Create list of names (genera and species) into lists.

I request someone to be able to design a bot that would be able to arrange a list from this data source: [1]. I did page one Wikipedia:WikiProject_Missing_encyclopedic_articles/Global_Names_Index/A although when trying to update page 2 I am getting error messages and I figure doing it by hand would take too long anyway. I need someone who can make the lists in the same format as the first page I showed as an example on all the remaining pages (A2, A3, A4 ETC. then B, B2, B3, B4 ETC. ETC.). Any help with this would be much appreciated. Note that page A2 through to A10 and the first page of letters B to Z were done by hand but will need to be updated because the lists are from an old source (unfiltered name list). Cheers!Calaka (talk) 09:25, 27 April 2010 (UTC) :BOTREQ CrimsonBlue (talk) 21:02, 27 April 2010 (UTC)

My computer must not be that great, because I can't even process the list without it freezing... They are huge... If someone else wants to take this feel free... I will try to figure out something for you CrimsonBlue (talk) 06:06, 28 April 2010 (UTC)
Tell me about it! Although I should point out that there is a limit of approx 2000-2500 names of species/genera on one page due to having more would disable the search function at the end of each name. Thanks for trying though!Calaka (talk) 08:35, 28 April 2010 (UTC)

Can't figure it out, the list is too big, someone else can pick this up CrimsonBlue (talk) 01:18, 4 May 2010 (UTC)

Anyone else think they would be able to help? I would hate to leave this project unfinished as it is, especially since Raul put in so much effort obtaining the names. Calaka (talk) 12:19, 11 May 2010 (UTC)
So this should be something I can easily do, but it's going to take some more effort. For instance, it seems the Global Names Index contains annotations, and I'm a little unsure about some of the details. Perhaps you can come to my talk page and we'll make a project writeup for this? Second, is it a one-off request? tedder (talk) 15:20, 11 May 2010 (UTC)
Hey there Tedder. I will reply to your talk page now with all the answers/info etc. Thank you for giving it a go!Calaka (talk) 08:57, 12 May 2010 (UTC)

Template:Expand

Coren has closed the TFD on this template and has placed it in the holding cell. See Wikipedia:Templates for discussion/Holding cell. Is there a bot owner who could do this? Garion96 (talk) 17:50, 2 May 2010 (UTC)

I can do the "if stub tag remove expand tag" part. I have filled a BRFA recently. Check Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval/Yobot 13 -- Magioladitis (talk) 21:47, 2 May 2010 (UTC)
Thanks, that would at least be a big part of the job done. Garion96 (talk) 19:19, 3 May 2010 (UTC)
Task approved. We can start now. -- Magioladitis (talk) 14:19, 4 May 2010 (UTC) Done. I removed expand from all stubs. Still 17,663 articles to deal with. -- Magioladitis (talk) 23:45, 4 May 2010 (UTC)
Thank you! Do you know how many stubs had the expand tag? Garion96 (talk) 23:58, 4 May 2010 (UTC)
There were probably about 1800. It has been general practice to remove these anyway, but of course stubs are the road less travelled. Note that the template is now at DRV. Rich Farmbrough, 12:12, 10 May 2010 (UTC).

add coordinates_display= to Infobox settlement transclusions

Resolved
 – BRFA filed (rolled into |coordinates_region= task) –xenotalk 23:34, 5 May 2010 (UTC)

I'd like a bot to run through all transclusions of Infobox settlement in mainspace which do not have the coordinates_display= parameter set. If the article lacks title coordinates, the parameter should be set to inline, title. Pages lacking title coordinates can be identified by the fact that they transclude neither nor . There was discussion about this at Template_talk:Infobox_settlement#coordinates_display.3D, and I think all the concerns were addressed. --Stepheng3 (talk) 03:35, 4 May 2010 (UTC)

Is there any other way to identify the pages? –xenotalk 03:46, 4 May 2010 (UTC)
It may be possible, but there are so many templates which call the coord template, that it would be hard to detect all the possible variations (at least in a foolproof way). Is it possible to generate the list offline? Plastikspork (talk) 04:27, 4 May 2010 (UTC)
A database report is probably the best way to go about it. And this should run in concert with User:Xenobot/6.2. –xenotalk 04:33, 4 May 2010 (UTC)
If a database report is generated, will the bot come? --Stepheng3 (talk) 05:24, 4 May 2010 (UTC)
Indeed. I'll roll it into the coordinates_region task. If there's any other Infobox settlement work that needs done, it should be added in as well. –xenotalk 12:32, 4 May 2010 (UTC)
You can thank user:MZMcBride for the report. –xenotalk 23:34, 5 May 2010 (UTC)

I received the following comment on my talk page:

Right now we generally have coordinates in place articles about twice, sometimes, three times. An effort on the part of the coord-aficionados, I guess. I don't suppose the bot can check for redundancies. It would be nicer to remove redundant coordinates or maybe all coordinates since I don't see the general use of them anyway. Maps are more useful IMO. Thanks. Student7 (talk) 20:30, 7 May 2010 (UTC)

Thoughts? –xenotalk 15:46, 10 May 2010 (UTC)
This isn't the place for this. Try WT:GEO. Andy Mabbett (User:Pigsonthewing); Andy's talk; Andy's edits 16:20, 10 May 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for the link. –xenotalk 16:24, 10 May 2010 (UTC)
I agree that deleting redundant coordinates would be a good thing. However, I see it as a separate task, tricky to automate and only tangentially related to what Xenobot is attempting to do here. --Stepheng3 (talk) 04:08, 11 May 2010 (UTC)

Capitalization error on asteroid stubs

I'd like to point out that thousands of asteroid stubs were created with some incorrect capitalization, using the phrase, "Main-belt Asteroid"[5], or sometimes, "Main-belt asteroid". I am in the process now of correcting the capitalisation of these.

I am also fixing the links within, to reflect what is probably a move in an article title. These were originally wikilinked as Main-belt Asteroid, and I am changing them to main belt asteroid, as there is no article Main-belt Asteroid (it now redirects to Asteroid belt). My use of two links (one to Asteroid belt and one to asteroid) was just a personal choice, but one which I think benefits the reader.

Anyway, I've done several hundred of what are over 11,000 of these articles. Is there any way that a bot could be programmed to do what I have been doing? (Example: [6]) Thanks! 98.82.34.167 (talk) 19:45, 8 May 2010 (UTC)

Dating adoption offers

I have just added a date requirement to adoptoffer and there is no obvious way to persuade users to adapt to the changes quickly. Could someone use/adapt/create a bot to add it automatically? Every time the template is added to a page - which will add that page to Category:Undated adoption offers - it simply needs the text |month= inserted before the final }}. strdst_grl (call me Stardust) 18:49, 11 May 2010 (UTC)

Grammar nazi bot

Every instance of "is comprised of" can be replaced by "comprises". This improves clarity, parsimony, and grammatical correctness. Likewise "was comprised of" -> "comprised".

Declined Not a good task for a bot.. That would be better suggested as an AWB typo fix. Bots aren't suited to mass grammar fixing where the edits need to be confirmed by meatware (i.e. a human), as special cases could (probably do, actually) exist where the change would be wrong. See also the small bit in the bot policy about such changes. - Mobius Clock 15:40, 12 May 2010 (UTC)

WikiProject banners Serbia

Hello!
I wanted to ask about this archived discussion. I need now similar bot, but regarding this:

Template Category
WikiProject Serbia Category:Serbia geography stubs
WikiProject Belgrade Category:Belgrade
Including Subcategories

In Geography stubs there are literary hundreds of untagged articles, and in Belgrade case, This WikiProject was relatively slow in past few years, so those tags are now needed to mark project scope. Also, second category can also include first template as well, as Belgrade is capital city of Serbia.

Thanks in advance! :) --Tadijaspeaks 18:25, 13 May 2010 (UTC)

User:ArticleAlertbot has been inoperable for a month. Can we get a replacement?--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 04:25, 5 May 2010 (UTC)

A helpful starting point is source code. Can you obtain the source code for the bot? Josh Parris 04:47, 5 May 2010 (UTC)
User:Legoktm has it (coded in Java). I raised this issue last month and User:Tedder volunteered to fix it. However he can't get anyone to pay attention to his request for toolserver access (I don't think it's required however). See User talk:Legoktm/April 2010#AA bot for additional details. More accurately, "blocked by waiting for access to toolserver"; not blocked in the Wikipedia blocked/banned sense. tedder (talk) 20:23, 12 May 2010 (UTC)

Well could you still update the code? Toolserver access doesn't seem to be required for this, since B. Wolterding didn't have it. Headbomb {talk / contribs / physics / books} 20:25, 12 May 2010 (UTC)

Um, is the code on git or svn somewhere, or just on toolserver? Can't update the code unless I can access it. tedder (talk) 20:30, 12 May 2010 (UTC)
Its just on the toolserver, however I can email you the .jar file that B. Wolterding always gave me. LegoKontribsTalkM 01:34, 14 May 2010 (UTC)
Is there more than the jar on toolserver? I'd need access to the source to make changes (including fixing the login issue, which is why it doesn't/can't run now). tedder (talk) 06:30, 14 May 2010 (UTC)

Add Caldwell catalogue and Category:Caldwell objects to relevant articles

I just created Caldwell catalogue and it needs to be placed on roughly 109 articles (a bit less, since some haven't yet been created). It would really help if a bot could go through all the Caldwell objects (which can be found in the navbox, or on Book:Caldwell catalogue) and add the navbox at the bottom of the page, as well as categorize them with , where ### is the three digit number (Caldwell 1 = 001). BTW, sometimes the category may be present, so just overide it. The current scheme uses an innappropriate ## sorting rather than ### sorting, which leads to problem with C100 to C109. Is there any chance of User:ArticleAlertbot being fixed or replaced? It was rather useful. The bot operator, User:B. Book for Nobel laureates

Hi, I wanted to write Wikipedia books on the nobel laureates, and having a bot write "first drafts" would be very helpful. It should be rather straightforward to implement. For example, on List of Nobel laureates in Physics, there is a table with the year, name/link, and reason for the prize. From this the bot could generate

= Nobel Laureates in Physics =
;Overview
:Nobel Prize
:Nobel Prize in Physics

;1901
:Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen

;1902
:Hendrik Lorentz
:Pieter Zeeman

;1903
:Antoine Henri Becquerel
:Pierre Curie
:Marie Curie

...

The name of the laureate should appear as on the list, but it should be piped to the non-redirect. The result should be uploaded at Book:Nobel Prize in Physics (I've taken care of this one, but not the other disciplines). Likewise for List of Nobel laureates in Chemistry, List of Nobel laureates in Physiology or Medicine, List of Nobel laureates in Literature, List of Nobel Peace Prize laureates. This would be much appreciated and save me a lot of time. Headbomb {talk / contribs / physics / books} 15:47, 9 May 2010 (UTC)

Reapairing redirects to Template:Infobox automobile

I would like a bot to repair pages using the template redirects Template:Infobox Automobile generation and Template:Infobox automobile generation to instead use Template:Infobox automobile. OSX (talkcontributions) 02:19, 16 May 2010 (UTC)

I have a bot that can easily do this (as a one-off), but it probably verges into WP:NOTBROKEN, doesn't it? tedder (talk) 02:49, 16 May 2010 (UTC)
It quite possibly does, but the thing is, many editors tend to copy-and-paste the infoboxes from one article to another as a template. If your bot could fix these redirects as a one-off, then it should ensure all future automobile infoboxes will use the "proper" title. OSX (talkcontributions) 05:41, 16 May 2010 (UTC)
I can run it with BAG's blessing, given the NOTBROKEN issue. tedder (talk) 05:45, 16 May 2010 (UTC)
Okay sounds good. Thanks in advance. OSX (talkcontributions) 07:59, 16 May 2010 (UTC)

If you bring this to BRFA, I guarantee that you will need to cite a few discussions to prove that there is consensus for the task. Otherwise it will likely be denied because of the WP:NOTBROEKN thing. Tim1357 talk 00:36, 20 May 2010 (UTC)

Determining population of ‘status’ parameter in Template:Infobox television

Resolved

Within the Infobox television template, there is a parameter named ‘status’ which contains many different comments (in production, canceled, hiatus, etc.). I would like to request a bot to scan articles using the Infobox television template with the purpose of creating a list of existing comments within the parameter, including frequency of use of each comment. A brief discussion of this issue can be found on the Template:Infobox television talk page here. Thanks. --Logical Fuzz (talk) 17:29, 19 May 2010 (UTC)

Could this be accomplished with a (hidden) tracking category? If you have a list of the possible expressions, I would imagine it wouldn't be that hard to set up, and no bot would be required. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 18:37, 19 May 2010 (UTC)
I think the problem is that the possible expressions is a bit of an unknown quantity. This seems like a good task for a dump report. –xenotalk 18:39, 19 May 2010 (UTC)
You are correct, the possible expressions are an unknown. Sorry, this is all a bit well over my head. It was suggested I bring this topic/request here. If a bot is not the right choice, sorry to waste your time.--Logical Fuzz (talk) 21:49, 19 May 2010 (UTC)
You're not in the wrong place, and there's no need for you to apologise. It is because of this uncertainty that a BOT is a better option than a tracking category. Andy Mabbett (User:Pigsonthewing); Andy's talk; Andy's edits 09:41, 20 May 2010 (UTC)

A new field, Gemeindeschlüssel, was recently added to the template which automatically adds a referenced population figure, but now some are showing reflist errors due to the missing reflist. Basically, if Gemeindeschlüssel is there (or if there are other refs), then a reflist is needed. Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 18:19, 16 May 2010 (UTC)

The articles without reflist show up in Category:Pages with missing references list. Normally, these are dealt with by SmackBot, but that hasn't been active since 7 May. Markussep Talk 08:48, 17 May 2010 (UTC)
Coding... for the transclusions of the given template. If it seems warranted, I'm quite happy to run through the full category periodically if approved to do so. I'll start with the template and go from there. - Mobius Clock 10:41, 17 May 2010 (UTC)
BRFA filed - I decided to file for approval to sweep the whole category, given that SmackBot is currently inactive as far as this task is concerned. - Mobius Clock 21:19, 17 May 2010 (UTC)
SmackBot is running again, and has already done about 80% all of the articles. Markussep Talk 09:26, 21 May 2010 (UTC)

Holding cell

I just dropped a few in Wikipedia:Templates_for_discussion/Holding_cell#To_Substitute. Basically, all the FA icon templates are to be replaced with FA, the GA icons with GA, and the FAC with FAC. I replaced them all with stubs so that they can be safely substituted. I was going to do them myself, but I would rather not light up talk page notifications if it isn't necessary. Thanks! Copy infobox field from German wikipedia

Resolved

German wikipedia uses databases for recent (December 2008) population numbers for municipalities in Germany. I already copied one of those database templates: Metadata Population DE-SN. By using a municipality code from the German statistics office (the Gemeindeschlüssel) this template can provide the population for templates like Infobox German location. I would like a bot to copy the "Gemeindeschlüssel" field from the Infobox Gemeinde in Deutschland templates in German wikipedia for all municipalities. For instance for the municipality Wachau, Saxony that would mean replacing "|Gemeindeschlüssel = 14 2 92 560" with "|Gemeindeschlüssel = 14625600" from de:Wachau (Sachsen) (the code in English wikipedia is incorrect) and for Wiesensteig adding "|Gemeindeschlüssel = 08117058" from de:Wiesensteig (no code given yet). This has to be done for all articles in the categories Category:Cities in Germany, Category:Towns in Germany, Category:Municipalities of Germany and their first degree subcategories. That's about 11,500 articles. Could a bot do this? Markussep Talk 17:49, 26 April 2010 (UTC)

I could potentially do it, but I will have to put in for bot approval. Or, I could help someone else develop the code who already has a bot. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 21:59, 29 April 2010 (UTC)
The number of articles is probably lower than I estimated above. The new version of the infobox picks up all errors, and puts them into this Category:Germany articles requiring maintenance under "U". This is slowly being filled. I think all municipalities in Saxony will have to be done, since they changed the keys at the 2008 district reform. The ones under "T" need to have their key removed (and a population number has to be added, if available), if there's not many of them, I can do that manually. Markussep Talk 12:17, 4 May 2010 (UTC)
There's 1034 articles now that require a Gemeindeschlüssel. Markussep Talk 13:40, 10 May 2010 (UTC)
I will take a first pass at this using a semi-automated script (visually checking each diff) since I don't operate a bot. Plastikspork (talk) 18:06, 13 May 2010 (UTC)
Done. The category is now down to 96 entries. These could not be updated due to a lack of a key in the corresponding German article. Most of these are collective municipalities. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 23:47, 14 May 2010 (UTC)
Great, thanks! Collective municipalities have keys as well, I'll check those. Some might be disbanded, I suppose we should add a field for that. And there are several dependent places in the category, like Bockum (part of Krefeld), I'll check those too. This bot request can be closed IMO. Markussep Talk 08:15, 17 May 2010 (UTC)

Bot suggestion: 35,000+ images donated to Commons; maybe we can use them

As noted at Commons:Robert Lavinsky, recently over 35,000 images of minerals have been donated to the Commons with more to come. I thought it might be a useful idea to have a bot search Wikipedia for articles corresponding to the mineral name appearing in the images and add one image to the article if there are currently no images included (or even add a gallery as many minerals have multiple images). The caption wouldn't be very difficult as they all come from the same place and the image description pages contain standardized information. I have no bot skills whatever so this would be for someone else to do if they were so inclined. I have no idea of feasibility, or if this would be hard to program. Just a thought.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 23:10, 19 May 2010 (UTC)

Yes, those are some great images. I would imagine this would be possible. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 16:29, 25 May 2010 (UTC)

Moving of archive pages and correcting archive bot settings when a talk page is moved

When a talk page is moved, its archives and archive index should be moved too. Also, its archive bot settings, such as miszabot config, need to be updated with the new page title in at least one field, sometimes more. What sparked this idea was the recent mass-retitling of MoS pages, which constitutes a lot of pages to move and settings to update. It would seem a continuously-running bot might also be beneficial in general for this though, for any time talk pages get moved, as the archives and archive bot settings often go overlooked for some time after. Equazcion (talk) 15:56, 25 May 2010 (UTC)

That can backfire, for example if one does a more complicated history merge and needs to reorganize the archive pages manually.
You know that if an admin moves a page, they can just tick a box to move all subpages along with the root page? And as far as Miszabot is concerned, I think it should just be tweaked to accept a relative path as input. :) Amalthea 17:03, 25 May 2010 (UTC)
Re: Miszabot, maybe it already can take a relative path, but I've never actually seen that done. Anyway, if this isn't a good idea in general then it might at least be good to run as a one-shot to fix all these MoS talk pages and their archives -- that is, unless an admin has a way of moving all subpages after a regular user has already performed the "top" page moves. By my rough count there were around 100 pages moved, with who knows how many archives each. Equazcion (talk) 17:12, 25 May 2010 (UTC)

Ratings of films and video games

This may sound a bit stupid but I think a bot which automatically detects changes to averages on Metacritic and Rotten Tomatoes could be useful so that the critical reception areas of these articles is fully up to date. While it may seem like a stupid idea, actions speak louder than words... Treylander 17:40, 25 May 2010 (UTC)

Book:Wikipedia Signpost/YYYY-MM-DD

I just had an idea. All signposts issues are in this (or similar) format: Wikipedia:Wikipedia Signpost/2005-01-10

Capitalization error on asteroid stubs

I'd like to point out that thousands of asteroid stubs were created with some incorrect capitalization, using the phrase, "Main-belt Asteroid"[7], or sometimes, "Main-belt asteroid".

(Example: [8]) Thanks! 98.82.34.167 (talk) 19:45, 8 May 2010 (UTC)

  • As to your question, should it not be "main-belt asteroid" instead of "main belt asteroid?. Bot to update the title of Today's Featured Article

We'd like a bot which creates in advance the daily subpage of Template:TFA title with the TFA title, which can be retrieved from the daily TFA template, Wikipedia:Today's featured article/November 22, 2024. See Template talk:TFA-editnotice#Proposed alternative display for the discussion. Thanks, Cenarium (talk) 16:48, 22 May 2010 (UTC)

Per there I've protected the subpages via titleblacklist, so the bot would need the tboverride right, probably through the accountcreator group. AFAICR it's precedented to add accounts to the group purely for that right, although I think we could just as well add it to the bot group. The pages aren't really a target for vandalism, but if we keep one page per day for historical purposes, it's unfeasible that anyone will watch them, and they are not supposed to be changed by a human anyway. Stripping disambiguator in Template:Infobox ice hockey player

Template:Infobox ice hockey player was just modified so that the player's name appears at the top of the infobox. When the infobox contains no "name" field, the default is the PAGENAME. (Most infoboxes currently lack this name field.) One of the annoyances is that articles where the title is disambiguated, e.g. Doug Harvey (ice hockey), will display the disambiguator at the top of the infobox. (see this version of the Doug Harvey article. So we're requesting a bot to go through the articles in which the template is transcluded, find those with some sort of "(ice hockey)" or "(ice hockey b. xxxx)" disambiguation and a the proper "name" field in the infobox. ThePPN (http://wiki.theppn.org/) was a Wiki about Japanese pop culture that went offline a few years ago, but some articles here still link to it or use it as a source. There aren't many articles, but at 143, I'm too lazy to remove them myself. I would appreceate it if someone could run a bot to remove all of these. Note that some use an interwiki link such as "ThePPN: Sexy 8 Beat". Thanks! Sorafune +1 23:58, 27 May 2010 (UTC)

Surely, these do not need to be removed, rather archived at Wayback. Unless, theppn specifically requested to not be archived, that is. Hellknowz  ▎talk  00:09, 28 May 2010 (UTC)
My other reason for requesting the removal of ThePPN, which I did not give because I thought was obvious, is that ThePPN was a wiki editable by anyone, and not a reliable source. It also certainly has no use as a normal external link because the website is dead. And if I remember correctly, ThePPN suffered from a tremendous amount of fancruft in its articles. Tagging thousands of categories for renaming

Bot help is needed to tag a couple thousand categories for renaming; see Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval/Mobius Bot 2 and/or Wikipedia:Bot_requests/Archive_36#Tagging_circa_850_categories_for_renaming. Most of the categories listed here need doing and since the promised bot owner is AWOL, I expect they will all need reposting to new CfD.
Ideally, the bot would add (with an informative edit summary) the following code to each category:

where ProposedName is the proposed new name of the category. A less-complex (and perhaps AWB-able) option is:

  • The bot seemed to have worked perfectly, so you can go ahead and do them all. For the tagging process, though, I don't think we need to worry about treating the redirects differently, since this is just the tagging process. But if you end up with a list of the ones that are redirects, that would be great to have when we get to closing the nomination. If not, don't worry about it.--Mike Selinker (talk) 04:46, 28 May 2010 (UTC)

A question...

Currently at WP:DERM we have a small section providing links to various data, but I wanted to know if someone would help us expand that section to provide more types of interesting data that people can use? Any help creating regularly and automatically generated types of project data would be great. Overall, I would love to provide readers with data that be be used to track the project growth/development. I am not sure if automatically generated and updated graphs are possible on wikipedia, but, if so, trending data with charts would be very cool. Perhaps someone could help create a "Dermatology task force bot" to perform tasks like this? Regardless, thank you all for your work on Wikipedia. ---kilbad (talk) 17:18, 28 May 2010 (UTC)

Updating articles to point to a modified image name at Commons

I seem to remember that there was a bot that checked images that had been copied to Commons with a new name (like File:010 Training Camp.jpg -> File:Lovie Smith Training Camp.jpg), and would then adjust the text of the articles to point at the new image. I don't think this is still happening. The process of moving images to Commons is very time-consuming, and letting a bot handle this step is very helpful. It is also important that this bot runs at least once a day, because sometimes the admins don't check image links when deleting these images (there is a huge deletion backlog for these images), and then the article editors will never know what happened to the image. I was going to suggest User:Erwin85Bot for this, as this bot processes the exact same images to notify the original uploader of the new location, but this bot seems to be blocked right now. ▫ JohnnyMrNinja 09:13, 31 May 2010 (UTC)

Old signpost article cleanup

Several old signpost articles are not as technically refined as today's Signposts. This creates a lot of problem in the book versions of the Signpost and in the PDFs of these articles. I found a couple of things that could be fixed with simple find/replace logic.

1) Replace

<noinclude></noinclude>

with

<noinclude></noinclude>

2) Replace

with

Partial emptying of Category:Wikipedia books

Resolved
 – Already requested and being discussed elsewhere. -- Black Falcon (talk) 23:50, 1 June 2010 (UTC)

As part of ongoing reorganization of the Wikipedia-Books category tree, Category:Wikipedia books is being converted into a container category and should contain only subcategories, a few directly related pages, and books which have yet to be categorized into a topic-specific category.

Categorization of user books by topic was deprecated per a recently-closed CFD discussion and, by extension, Category:Wikipedia books should be emptied of all user books (this will not leave them uncategorized as they are all also in Category:Wikipedia books (user books)). Does anyone have a bot which could remove all 974 user books in the category while leaving pages in the Book: and Category: namespaces for manual sorting? -- Black Falcon (talk) 19:24, 1 June 2010 (UTC)

Adminbot to perform simple history merges

I propose an adminbot to perform simple history merges from candidates found in this list. A few years ago I may have attempted this bot myself, but I now do not have the time to program and run it.

Operation

The bot would perform the following operations:

Identify candiate pages

  • Use the histmerge list to get potential candidates.
  • Reject a candidate if either the original or new page has any deleted edits.
  • Reject a candidate if either page has over X edits, where X is probably 1000 or so (certainly less than 5000).
  • Reject a candidate if the original page was anything other than a redirect after being set to a redirect. This can likely be done heuristically, using page size (in bytes) to make this determination.
  • At first, reject candidates where the original page has a talk page. Later on, pages with talk pages that need merging can be handled.

Perform the merge

I propose the following steps to do the history merge:

  • Delete the original page.
  • Undelete the revisions of the original page that are not redirect revisions. In other words, all redirect revisions will be deleted at this point, and all revisions prior to the redirect will not be deleted.
  • Delete the new (i.e. existing) page.
  • Move the old page to the new page; opt NOT to leave a redirect behind.
  • Undelete the redirect revisions from the original page
  • Undelete all revisions from the new page
  • Perform a rollback on the new page, with a custom message stating that the history merge is complete

Effects

The effects of these steps are as follows:

  • All redirect revisions of the original page have not moved
  • All non-redirect revisions of the original page are merged into the new page
  • This totals 2 deletions, 3 undeletions, 1 move, and 1 edit per history merge.

Notes

  • This should probably not be fully automated (at least at first). If someone writes source for it, then I can help test it out and run it.
  • I've done a bunch of these merges by hand lately, and it seems like at least 10-20 thousand could easily be done with such a bot (based on the history merge list linked above). With talk page merging, we could probably get at least 25,000 merged, and likely even more.

--CapitalR (talk) 22:43, 2 June 2010 (UTC)

OK I looked at the first one, it is a cut and paste by the original, and then only, author, hence not a problem. Looks like the first page has a bunch of these (Ram-man articles) - these should be removed, then we get a better idea of the scale of the problem. Rich Farmbrough, 09:19, 4 June 2010 (UTC).
Also a some have been hist-merged already The Imperial (album) The Imperial (album) Rich Farmbrough, 09:22, 4 June 2010 (UTC).
Yeah, I recommend starting around page 10 of that list to avoid the massive amount of Ram-man articles (which can probably be ignored). From that point on, the ones with a 0% diff score (the last column of the table) are the best candidates I've found. The latter pages have a lower probability of already being hist merged. That list gives 30K candidates, so there's plenty of work to be done, even after eliminating Ram-man's and the the already completed ones. Thanks for taking the time to look at it. --CapitalR (talk) 19:02, 4 June 2010 (UTC)

I've reverted the template modification. No opinion on how it should behave, but a unilateral change to one template of a series without trying to maintain date format consistency in existing articles is the wrong way to go about it. Amalthea 15:02, 4 June 2010 (UTC)

Adminbot to deal with the CAT:NCT Backlog

There are 6,264 images in Category:Wikipedia files with the same name on Wikimedia Commons. The majority of these images have moved by an automatic script, and so keep all of the licensing, description, attribution, etc on the Commons version. Since only admins can delete these images, the backlog will always be a problem. Could a bot not go to the Commons version of the image, check for commons:Template:BotMoveToCommons, or otherwise manually check to see if the licensing and information matches the enwiki version, and then delete the it? NauticaShades 00:02, 3 June 2010 (UTC)

I'm pretty sure one of the bots did this, but I can't remember which or who. Q T C 00:04, 3 June 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, there really needs to be an admin bot to process these. FinalRapture - 00:06, 3 June 2010 (UTC)
The problem here is CSD:F8 "The image's license and source status is beyond reasonable doubt, and the license is undoubtedly accepted at Commons." Not sure that is currently bottable. Rich Farmbrough, 09:28, 4 June 2010 (UTC).
@ OQ - Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval/EyeEightDestroyerBot? (although that was a one time run and had a much more restrictive scope). Personally I think the size of the backlog outweighs the risk of an incorrect deletion (which with the proper checks and balances will be very low anyway). I'll start coding. --Chris 09:38, 4 June 2010 (UTC)

Updating a table weekly

The previous bot request petered out due to issues with the bot operator.

Thanks! ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WikiProject Japan! 17:33, 10 June 2010 (UTC)

Not sure this is relevant but I do run a daily database report for unreferenced BLPs for specific wiki projects. see tools:~betacommand/reports/unref_blp/ βcommand `
If you want to get more Japanese BLPs into the lists generated via User:DASHBot/Wikiprojects/Templates then you might consider asking User:Xenobot Mk V to project tag for Japan all articles in category:Japanese people. He's recently done this for Serbia and Boxing so I'm sure would be happy to do this for Japan. ϢereSpielChequers 11:03, 11 June 2010 (UTC)

Latitude and longitude assessment

There are articles for every line of latitude and longitude, and almost none of them have assessment tags. Could someone please go through Category:Lines of longitude and Category:Lines of latitude and add:WPcoord . It would be useful if you also auto add stub and start class based on article length. I would do it myself, but my Windows emulator is being screwy, so I can't run AWB. Thank you. —Arctic Gnome (talkcontribs) 21:46, 7 June 2010 (UTC)

How would you decide stub vs start based on length? Anomie 01:15, 8 June 2010 (UTC)
Choice between stub and start doesn't seem like something a bot should do, since the start class criteria say that the article must have enough sources to establish verifiability, which seems like something a human would have to check. - EdoDodo talk 06:23, 8 June 2010 (UTC)
Class can be left blank, then, as long as they show up on the WP:1.0 table. —Arctic Gnome (talkcontribs) 06:34, 8 June 2010 (UTC)
BRFA filed - EdoDodo talk 16:16, 8 June 2010 (UTC)

There's one question that came up in the bot request, would you like articles to be automatically assessed as stub if they are very short? The bot can't assess as start because, as I mentioned before, this requires sourcing which the bot cannot check, but it can assess as stub. Perhaps you could ask WikiProject Geography if they assess stubs based on length. Anyway I'll wait for your reply at the request for approval before proceeding. - EdoDodo talk 17:15, 9 June 2010 (UTC)

Stub-assessment would be useful, yes. —Arctic Gnome (talkcontribs) 20:11, 10 June 2010 (UTC)

P.S. I will contact other HKT participants. Kayau Voting IS evil 10:26, 11 June 2010 (UTC)
"Including subcategories" is seldom a good idea, and this is no exception. Is St. Andrew's Church (Kowloon) really within your project's scope? It's in Category:Tsim Sha Tsui, which is in Category:Shopping districts and streets in Hong Kong, which is in Category:Roads in Hong Kong, which is in Category:Road transport in Hong Kong, which is in Category:Transport in Hong Kong.
IMO, your original plan to tag pages already tagged by both WikiProject Hong Kong and various transportation WikiProjects was a better idea. But you would need to specify which WikiProjects those are.
BTW, is WikiProject Hong Kong Transport actually active? I see almost no activity on the talk page, and this vandalism on the project page went unreverted for almost a year. Perhaps it should be made a task force of Wikipedia:WikiProject Hong Kong instead? Anomie 11:30, 11 June 2010 (UTC)

Obit spotting

On Wikipedia we have hundreds of thousands of BLPs, thousands of the people who are the subjects of these articles die every year. It is very likely that we have thousands of longdead people still tagged as living on EN Wiki.

I would like a bot that:

  1. Runs weekly across all the articles in category:Living people
  2. checks any interwiki links to see if our Bios on the other language wikipedias are still marked as living
  3. creates an exception report Wikipedia:Database reports/Living people on EN wiki who are dead on other wikis
  4. Report to contain a list of EN Wiki articles and links to other language wiki articles in which the subject is marked as dead.

I'm assuming that this bot would require a table on Meta with the relevant categories on the various language wikis, and could then become a multi wiki project with all wikis who have a bio on an individual getting such a database report listing people now marked as dead on other wikis. But it would be nice to start on EN Wiki first. ϢereSpielChequers 14:18, 10 June 2010 (UTC)

Would be trivial as a database report, If you could generate those related categories in a reasonable fashion. βcommand 22:35, 10 June 2010 (UTC)
Thats really a nice idea. I have just compared dewiki with itwiki (both on ts-s2) and found about 400 matches. Merlissimo 01:44, 11 June 2010 (UTC)
I've created a table at meta:Death_anomalies_table. Betacommand, does that give you the categories in a reasonable fashion? And Merlissimo, would you be willing to populate rows for DE and IT? Cheers ϢereSpielChequers 10:51, 11 June 2010 (UTC)
I already created an report on dewiki using all s2 wikis [9]. As a first try i simply used like with category name instead of creating the cat tree.
  • wikilang : death category as like expression
  • eo: Mortintoj_en_%
  • id: Kematian_%
  • it: Morti_nel%
  • no: Dødsfall_%
  • pl: Zmarli_w%
  • sv: Avlidna_%
  • th: บุคคลที่เสียชีวิตในคริสต์ทศวรรษ%
  • tr: %_yılında_ölenler
  • zh: %逝世
I havn't found and death category at fi, nl and pt. dewiki would be 'Gestorben_%' or de:Kategorie:Person nach Todesjahrhundert as root category.
on eowiki i have found three people categorized as death where i think that they aren't. e.g. eo:Yves Chauvin got the nobel prize on 5th Dec 2005 and is marked as dead in 2005. Merlissimo 13:40, 11 June 2010 (UTC)
nl.wiki doesn't have these categories; the only way you might be able to do this for nl (with a smarter bot) is by looking at things like "(5 oktober 1935 - 8 juli 2009)" in the first line of the article text. Ucucha 13:44, 11 June 2010 (UTC)
I suggest we leave nl out for the time being if they don't have an easy way to tell the dead from the living. I've fixed the link to the table and will add the German category. I haven't added any others for the time being as I'm not sure whether the wildcards would work in such a table. ϢereSpielChequers 16:42, 11 June 2010 (UTC)
Coding... I'll create the database script without any content scan. Because i'll add support for creating reports on multiple wikis it may take some days. In between all people should help finding all decreased root categories and add them to the page on meta. Merlissimo 23:09, 11 June 2010 (UTC)
User:Betacommand/Sandbox is the basic en.wp report. I am unable to get th,tr, or zh. I suspect that its caused by encoding issues. Im going to look into it. we just need more death categories. βcommand 08:41, 12 June 2010 (UTC)
I have also written the script. Its quite fast - about half an hour in total (not only enwiki) and s1 (enwiki) is very slow compared to the other db servers (adding 762919 living people to a temp table and replacing spaces with unterscores takes about 10 minutes, the same with dewiki and 550879 rows takes 1:50min). It completely uses sge and adding more wikis and more report won't increase the run time very much because of multi theading.
But on the other wikis many people are reported as dead because of enwiki. Not all people in subcategories of category:Dead_people are dead. e.g. Sean Penn Dead_people->..category:Suicides_in_New_York->category:September_11_attacks->..category:Legal_issues_related_to_the_September_11_attacks->..->category:Anti-Iraq_War_activists
So i hope switching to category: Deaths by year will help. I included 25 wikis on my test but i am not sure that all wiki root categories or like expresions are correct. So i will reduce the wiki number for the report and we should find people adding more categories to the table at meta and don't reply only on the interwikis of the dead people category. Merlissimo 04:15, 13 June 2010 (UTC)
I added the output to Wikipedia:Database reports/Living people on EN wiki who are dead on other wikis. I had to filter out all except the s2 wikis listed before, fr (fr:Category:Chronologie_des_décès) and jp (jp:Category:没年), because of probably wrong root category. But there aren't still more wikis added to the page at page. Merlissimo 13:27, 13 June 2010 (UTC)
Update: searched for people at en, de and jp and checked against 48 other wikis. Merlissimo 02:03, 14 June 2010 (UTC)

request bot to transwiki all articles that begin with "list of" in their title

There is a wiki dedicated to List articles only.[10] There are a lot of list articles on Wikipedia. Using the Wikipedia search [11] I find 691,380 articles with "List of" at the start of their name. Going through Google [12] searching just the Wikipedia site for "list of" it gives me "about 4,610,000 results". Sometimes that number is less though, and it may be including all the times someone links to a "list of" article and whatnot. Unless someone makes a bot for this, that's a whole lot of work to get done. List articles are constantly being sent to AFD, and many are being deleted, lost forever for those who find such things interesting and useful for research. Please, help save these poor unfortunate articles find a new home, where they'll be safe. Dream Focus 17:27, 9 June 2010 (UTC)

WikiLists is not operated by the Wikimedia Foundation (the organization that runs Wikipedia), so it may not be possible to copy content between them (because of licensing issues and/or issues getting the bot to work there). I'm not entirely sure though, somebody else might be able to do it. - EdoDodo talk 19:01, 9 June 2010 (UTC)
WikiLists uses Wikia's default licensing of CC-BY-SA, which is compatible with reuse from Wikipedia. I wrote a .js for use there recently, and the MediaWiki API is accessible. Flatscan (talk) 04:29, 10 June 2010 (UTC)
Same code is used though. Just need to grab everything here, and automatically each item to a separate file of an importable size. If the history is too long, cut it off, since otherwise it won't work. And then over there a bot to allow everything to be queued up so it imports one after another. Dream Focus 22:16, 9 June 2010 (UTC)
This needs a consensus here and there to pull it off. FinalRapture - 22:54, 9 June 2010 (UTC)
It doesn't need a consensus here for them to copy all of our lists, they can do so with a read-only bot whenever they want. If they want to delete all of our lists, however, I can tell you now that they will not get consensus to outsource all of our provision of standalone lists to a non-Wikimedia organization (whether or not it runs on Mediawiki). —Arctic Gnome (talkcontribs) 20:10, 10 June 2010 (UTC)
Is there a read only bot? Can you tell me exactly how to do this? Dream Focus 20:43, 10 June 2010 (UTC)

If there are no licensing issues then I think this could be done using Special:Export to export a list of pages here, and then Special:Import to import the pages there. No special rights necessary here, you'll probably have to be administrator+ to import over there. - EdoDodo talk 09:52, 12 June 2010 (UTC)

Yes, that's how we do it. But as I don't want to have to do it 691,380 times. Dream Focus 20:14, 12 June 2010 (UTC)
As far as I know, both facilities can be done in batches. –xenotalk 12:51, 14 June 2010 (UTC)

Asteroids

Due to the large number of articles involved, I'd like to request a bot that would take all articles that are on the uncategorized articles toolserver and in Category:Main Belt asteroid stubs (stub categories don't count as "categorized"), and add Category:Main Belt asteroids to those articles. I don't know if a bot that could do this job already exists, or if a new one would need to be programmed. Thanks. Bearcat (talk) 04:32, 7 June 2010 (UTC)

I am not sure if stub categories don't count as categorised. I am confused on the subject. Anyway, Yobot can do it for you.  Doing... -- Magioladitis (talk) 22:37, 9 June 2010 (UTC)
It turns out that we have to add the category to all articles don't have it, independently if they have other categories or not. I filled in a general request in Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval/Yobot 15 which it will add me some flexibility I hope. I ll finish the task after the approval. -- Magioladitis (talk) 23:07, 9 June 2010 (UTC)
Indeed, the rule is that an article needs to be in at least one content category to count as being categorized; the stub categories are meant as a way of keeping track of articles for maintenance purposes, and aren't meant for content/browsing purposes. For what it's worth, there will almost certainly be other batch jobs where the same bot may be useful (Category:Tachinidae stubs, frex). Bearcat (talk) 19:01, 12 June 2010 (UTC)

 Done ~3,500 were categorised. -- Magioladitis (talk) 21:43, 14 June 2010 (UTC)

Template:Commons category (see redirects) is one of the most-transcluded templates on en.wikipedia, with 185,000+ transclusions. My impression, gained from browsing category pages, is that a not-insignificant number of these transclusions point to pages which do not exist on Commons.

Could a bot check transclusions of the template and:

  1. Generate a list (for manual review) of all transclusions which point to a non-existent page; or
  2. Remove all transclusions which point to a non-existent page?

Please help a new WikiProject

The newly created WikiProject Disability requests that a bot be tasked to place the Project template WikiProject Disability on all articles in the and all subcategories. I don't see any subcategories that I think should be excluded but if anyone disagrees, please say so. Roger (talk) 08:50, 14 June 2010 (UTC)

Are Hyperlexia, Paul Nitsche, Euthanasia, Blackberry thumb, or Boy Scouts of America really in the scope of a "WikiProject Disability"? All were culled from Category:Disability itself or one of its first-level subcategories. And then there are some of the categories further down the tree, such as Category:Computational number theory, Category:United States military memorials and cemeteries, or Category:Fascism stubs. Anomie 11:58, 14 June 2010 (UTC)
The ones that are themselved categories - Category:Computational number theory, Category:United States military memorials and cemeteries, or Category:Fascism stubs do not belong in the list, I'm not sure how they got there in the first place. Hyperlexia - yes, it is associated with Autism, Paul Nitsche - yes he headed the Nazi programme of euthanasia of disabled people, Euthanasia - yes it is still a common practice even in western countries, Blackberry thumb no - that's just a type of repetitive strain injury, Boy Scouts of America no - they do work with disabled people but its not their main activity. I'll take another good look at the category tree and prune where neccessary. Please put further action on hold until I report back here. Thanks for your assistance. Roger (talk) 12:48, 14 June 2010 (UTC)
Those categories got in there because when people say "and all subcategories" they usually mean to include sub-subcategories, sub-sub-subcategories, and so on; in this case, I stopped my lister after 30 minutes so I can't give a count of just how many categories that is here. As for the articles, IMO you're taking an excessively broad scope for a project just barely off the ground, but if EdoDodo or someone really wants to tag numerous tangentially-related articles for your project I won't try to stop them. Anomie 15:42, 14 June 2010 (UTC)
I don't think EdoDodo is planning to do that - they're looking for a properly-vetted category list before they start. –xenotalk 15:46, 14 June 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, I'm not going to run this on all of the subcategories, I'll make sure every category I run it through is in the scope of the project. - EdoDodo talk 15:52, 14 June 2010 (UTC)
(edit conflict) As I said in my message I will only start tagging when a proper list of categories has been decided, and I completely agree with you that the current list (the one including all of the subcategories) is far too broad, especially for a new WikiProject. I suggest the project hand picks the categories that they would like me to tag instead of including all sub categories, as sub categories can go very far from the scope of a project. - EdoDodo talk 15:50, 14 June 2010 (UTC)
I didn't think you were going to do that. But I am concerned that even the first-level subcategories have an excessive number of articles only tangentially related to a WikiProject focusing on Wikipedia's coverage of disability. Anomie 16:23, 14 June 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, I guess we'll see what Dodger67 and the rest of the WikiProject want, but I would suggest tagging just Category:Disability and some other relevant hand-picked categories (eg. Category:Disability rights, Category:Mental retardation, etc.), without automatically including any subcategories. - EdoDodo talk 16:31, 14 June 2010 (UTC)

Once you've decided on the list of categories to run the bot through I'll be quite happy to do this using DodoBot, I have just a few more questions. Would you like the class (B, C, Start, etc.) to be automatically inherited from other WikiProjects? Also, would you like articles to automatically be assessed as stubs if they contain Stub (or another stub template)? And lastly, would you like articles to be automatically assessed as stubs if they are below a certain length (I would suggest 2500 bytes, but its up to you and the rest of the project)? Once you've got all the details sorted out drop a message here and I'll do it for you as soon as possible. - EdoDodo talk 14:16, 14 June 2010 (UTC)

Aaargh! This is more complicated than it looks! I think we should scrap this request for now. The project will need to mature a little bit before we re-open this issue. Thanks for helping. Roger (talk) 09:57, 15 June 2010 (UTC)
Heh, apologies if I confused you, if you would like a simple project tagging of just Category:Disability (and not it's subcategories), I'll be happy to do that. I'll take care of all the things I talked about before for you. - EdoDodo talk 15:16, 15 June 2010 (UTC)
Doing... Following discussion of the user's talk page, we've agreed to tag just Category:Disability for the moment, to give his project something to start off with, and possibly more categories later, proceeding to do this now. - EdoDodo talk 15:37, 15 June 2010 (UTC)
Whoops... used an incorrect edit summary by accident for about 40 edits, sorry about that. Anyway, I'm almost done with Category:Disability. - EdoDodo talk 16:47, 15 June 2010 (UTC)
((tick}} Should be done with Category:Disability, feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you would like me to tag more categories. - EdoDodo talk 17:00, 15 June 2010 (UTC)

Template:Infobox road updates

We've been working on some overhauls to infobox road, and part of this process has deprecated some parameter names. Articles with these parameters are populating Category:Infobox road transclusions with deprecated parameters. These parameter names come from the merger of several, older templates together into the current infobox. Going forward, we're streamlining support to a single set of parameter names. The # in a few of the parameters could be a number from 1 to 4 since the template can support up to 4 sections for roads that exit in multiple segments.

Params to be deprecated Alternate names for...
highway_name name
year_established established
formed
starting_terminus
from
starting_terminus#
from#
terminus_a
terminus_a#
ending_terminus
to
ending_terminus#
to#
terminus_b
terminus_b#
parent spur_of
parent_type spur_type

There are other deprecated parameters that have placed articles in the category, but they'll need manual conversion. Any assistance with this project is appreciated. Imzadi 1979  06:37, 15 June 2010 (UTC)

AnomieBOT can do this easily, and if the new value for some of your other parameters can be calculated from the existing data AnomieBOT could do that too. But first, have the relevant projects been notified of this change and had time to comment? The only discussion I can find is between you and one other editor on Template talk:Infobox road. BTW, did your changes cause the redlink to "Template:Infobox road/browselinks/" on U.S. Route 131? Anomie 11:33, 15 June 2010 (UTC)
My guess is that most people don't really care about a change to the backend of the template, probably because it's generally agreed that the current system that the backend uses is fairly cumbersome. Ditto for the parameters, since it'll make things uniform across the board. None of the parameter deprecations are removing functionality from the template - as Imzadi explained above, they're just alternate params that were added to seamlessly merge in infoboxes. As for the redlink...that's caused by a change to how the links are generated. One of the tasks that needs to be done is add "country=USA" to every article using "type=US" or "type=I/type=Interstate" without a state parameter, but that could be done by hand. – TMF 13:16, 15 June 2010 (UTC)
You're probably right, but if they don't know then they can't tells if they care or not. I'd say post a note at the appropriate talk pages telling the projects that a number of obsolete parameters will be bot-updated and then removed from the template, and if they have any objections they should raise them now. But since the only problem in case of major objection is some unnecessary edits, I suppose the bot can go ahead.
AnomieBOT can easily add "country=USA" for any instance using those types with no state, BTW. Pretty much any change that just involves looking at the existing data and manipulating it without need for any human judgement can be done easily enough, so please list them all (and dump them in the tracking category) and AnomieBOT can do it all in one pass. Bot(s) needed for pending changes trial

We'd need a bot which updates the number of articles under pending changes and a bot which reports certain kind of edits if possible, please see Wikipedia_talk:Pending_changes/Trial#Bots. The trial will begin in a few hours. Cenarium (talk) 17:46, 15 June 2010 (UTC)

fix Duck family usage in advance of reusing it

I'd like to request that all links to "Duck family" get reresolved into Duck family (Disney) to clear the way for reusing it as a dab page, since people are equally likely to be looking up information about real duck family groupings, or the taxonomic family for ducks. On a Google search, most hits come up about real duck family groupings for the term.

70.29.212.131 (talk) 04:16, 13 June 2010 (UTC)

I would be happy to get a task approved for my bot to do it (under conditions that it runs at 3-6 edits/min and each edit is manually checked before being comitted). Would like some wider input though. -- sk8er5000 yeah? 06:08, 13 June 2010 (UTC)
I completely agree with this, and it seems that there is some kind of consensus, since the page was moved to Duck family (Disney) so the redirect could be made (see here). Anyway, I have no objections with you running the task. - EdoDodo talk 14:24, 14 June 2010 (UTC)
Considering there are less than 100 articles which link there, most of which appear to have been included via transcluding Disney Characters, I've begun working on this by hand. VernoWhitney (talk) 14:38, 14 June 2010 (UTC)
Okay, I appear to have gotten them all in Article-, File-, and Portal-space (just waiting on the job queue to clean up the transclusions). I'm now going through Talk-space and WP-space. I just finished up what should be all of them, I left User and User talk pages alone and some Wikipedia articles which were labeled historical/archive or otherwise appeared to be bot-generated. I'll check back later today once the transclusions are cleaned out. Follow-up question: The Duck family and The Duck familie currently redirect to Duck family (Disney), is that still intended or should they be redirected to Duck family? VernoWhitney (talk) 14:58, 14 June 2010 (UTC)
That would probably be a good idea. That could refer to the taxonomic family. 70.29.212.131 (talk) 06:00, 16 June 2010 (UTC)
Done. This should be all taken care of then. Cheers. VernoWhitney (talk) 16:52, 16 June 2010 (UTC)

GA symbol

Consensus has been reached at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Good articles#Should all GAs have the GA symbol on the article page? to place the GA symbol (Good article) on GAs. Could a bot add the symbol to all GAs (listed at WP:GA) and ideally also periodically check afterward whether all articles listed there have the symbol? Thanks, Ucucha 12:38, 30 May 2010 (UTC)

I'd be happy to do an AWB run for the existing ones? ╟─TreasuryTagvoice vote─╢ 15:18, 30 May 2010 (UTC)
Thanks, that would work. In the end, we will need some sort of monitoring to make sure the list on WP:GA matches the set of articles with the GA symbol, but I suppose there are several possible ways for that. Ucucha 15:34, 30 May 2010 (UTC)

Hi, if the bot checks the English GAs, why not have it do a check on foreign GAs along with that, adding Link GA with the appropriate language parameter? I know that the German and Persian wikis have bots do that and I saw it discussed in MediaWiki talk:Common.js/Archive 14 where someone wrote down a code. Hekerui (talk) 16:21, 30 May 2010 (UTC)

User:LinkFA-Bot is adding Link GA to articles now. Now we actually got to make it work; see Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Good_articles#Making_Template:Link_GA_work. Gary King (talk) 18:48, 30 May 2010 (UTC)
If a bot could also do a bit of the tagging I'm attempting with AWB it would speed it up a lot :) ╟─TreasuryTagcabinet─╢ 21:15, 30 May 2010 (UTC)

Of course WikiProject Good Article would have consensus to implement this. That doesn't mean there is community consensus, however. I don't think this should be implemented without more input from the broader community. Kaldari (talk) 21:13, 30 May 2010 (UTC)

This used to get shot down big time "how dare you put a GA star on the main article page". I should know as I'm one of those that tried it, back in my early wiki days. RlevseTalk 21:51, 30 May 2010 (UTC)
Out of first 20 supporters only 4 identify themselves as good article WP participants. Out of first 10 opposers 2 do so. How is this possibly not broad enough?  Hellknowz  ▎talk  21:45, 30 May 2010 (UTC)

Excellent, I was going to request this actually. It might actually also encourage more people to develop GAs. Is this a good idea though if the good article marker can be removed from the article? It ought to be fixed I think. Dr. Blofeld White cat 17:28, 31 May 2010 (UTC)

We've always been using featured article for featured articles, so this shouldn't be that big of a problem. What we need to do ultimately is get a bot to keep the GA articles up-to-date so that they all have Good article. Gary King (talk) 22:39, 31 May 2010 (UTC)
IF we are certain that there is proper consensus and IF there are no objections to this implementation (which I believe has been controversial in the past), then I would be happy to make/run an AWB (or perhaps Python) bot to patrol and update the Good articles with this symbol (which I personally think is a good idea). I really want to be sure that there is consensus, though, as I have seen all too well what happens when unapproved changes are made in large numbers. Perhaps a more broad consensus is required...I wouldn't be surprised if our friends at WP:BRFA ask for more consensus before handing over the coveted bot flag. Robert Skyhawk (T C B) 23:31, 31 May 2010 (UTC)
Didn't User:H3llkn0wz's answer to address concerns raised by User:Kaldari more than enough to demonstrate clear-cut consensus? Even those who oppose, like User:Iridescent stated that "...even I can see that there's an overwhelming consensus in support of it and extending the discussion isn't going to change anything"[13] Is that good enough? Like, seriously, we don't need another lame episode of having a poll about this poll, then initiate an RfC after this poll, which further leads to another poll questioning the merits of that RfC, then a poll asking whether if the polling method is the best approach, which then leads to... never mind... We're not seeking for universal support, but clearly consensus has been demonstrated. OhanaUnitedTalk page 05:08, 1 June 2010 (UTC)
I agree that we don't need a poll of a poll. There already was a poll, and based on that poll, the symbol has already been added to many GAs. Firsfron of Ronchester 06:02, 1 June 2010 (UTC)

(outdent)I'm sorry; I didn't mean to imply that we need to actively seek more consensus...seems like that would be akin to flogging a dead horse, if you'll forgive the expression. I just want to be sure that we have it before I start making a request for approval. As I was writing this, though, I discovered that the template is currently at TfD, so I won't be getting the ok from the BAG anytime soon. Once that is settled (and hopefully the template is kept), I'll be able to request approval for a bot. Robert Skyhawk (T C B) 23:25, 1 June 2010 (UTC)

The TFD was closed yesterday as keep. – TMF 19:00, 9 June 2010 (UTC)

Where is this template supposed to be placed? I tried to update the manual to be more specific by adding " ... before defaultsort, categories and interwikis." here and here. The reason was that User:Koavf added more than 400 templates at the very bottom. I contacted them in their talk page. -- Magioladitis (talk) 23:55, 11 June 2010 (UTC)

Thanks I have since amended the way that I place it to be before DEFAULTSORT, etc. It's more difficult than simply appending at at the end with AWB, but it's certainly not impossible to insert it manually. If someone knows of a way to insert it before sortkeys, categories, and interwikis, please let me know on my talk. Thanks. —Justin (koavf)TCM00:38, 12 June 2010 (UTC)
Thanks to all the people adding the symbol using AWB and otherwise (especially Koavf and TreasuryTag, I believe), it now seems (based on the counts at Category:Good articles and WP:GA) there are only about 400 GAs left without the symbol. Are people still working on getting those? Ucucha 09:08, 12 June 2010 (UTC)
Yes I am. It's just down to the Js with one more AWB run to double-check. Then make a bot and change the text of WP:GA to explain how Good article should be added to every new page and taken off of pages that are delisted or promoted to A- or FA-class. —Justin (koavf)TCM04:51, 13 June 2010 (UTC)

Is there still a need for a bot to do anything, now that the GAs have (nearly) all been tagged semi-automatically? Robert Skyhawk (T C B) 03:10, 15 June 2010 (UTC)

It would be cool to have a bot that deals with new GAs, and makes sure they have the template. I wouldn't put a lot of effort into it, though. - Peregrine Fisher (talk) 05:58, 15 June 2010 (UTC)
Just another comment, but promotion to A-Class doesn't remove Good Article status from an article. Only promotion to Featured Article status or demotion from Good Article status does that. Imzadi 1979  07:02, 15 June 2010 (UTC)
It would be very simple for me to run an AWB bot that checks for Good article, and adds it to eligible articles that lack it, as well as removing it from delisted/featured GAs. BRFA filed. See Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval/Good Article Patrol Bot. Robert Skyhawk (T C B) 03:38, 18 June 2010 (UTC)

Bot to automatically add portals to articles

Has anyone considered writing a bot that automatically adds portals to articles?

There are often groups of articles that need portals to be added, i.e. many Mexico-related articles are missing Mexico portal tags. I would like a bot that would allow these tags to be massively placed in many articles at once. Also it would be nice to write the bot to allow two or more portal tags to be added to one or many articles (i.e. "Mexico" and "Aviation")

WhisperToMe (talk) 03:27, 16 June 2010 (UTC)

Shouldn't be too difficult to do using AWB and a few regexs. Will try coding it this afternoon. - EdoDodo talk 06:24, 17 June 2010 (UTC)
Okay, I've mostly got it working, should open a BRFA some time soon, but I was wondering one thing... If there's no "see also" section, where should the bot place the portal tag? - EdoDodo talk 16:21, 17 June 2010 (UTC)
The external links section should be the second-best place for portals. If there is no see also, then external links works. Thanks :) WhisperToMe (talk) 04:31, 18 June 2010 (UTC)

International law wikiproject template

Not done I decided to check if this change had the consensus of the relevant WikiProjects, and it seems that you made all the changes to the templates yourself, and without discussion. If there is a relevant discussion that shows consensus of the WikiProjects then please point me to it, because I'm not going to proceed to make bot edits to a bunch of pages until I can see clear consensus. If there is no discussion then please start one so I can see that this change has been agreed. Thank you. - EdoDodo talk 16:28, 18 June 2010 (UTC)

Not really, that discussion was about adding class and importance parameters to WikiProject International law, the requester merged that template with and is now mass-replacing it without consensus. - EdoDodo talk 21:29, 18 June 2010 (UTC)
Kinda by request? Nobody asked (except him) for this. FinalRapture - 23:13, 18 June 2010 (UTC)
There was no reply after ten days, so I surmised that the project was orphaned. In my experience, when one finds an orphaned article or page where there is no one with whom to reach a consensus, WP:BOLD takes effect. —Arctic Gnome (talkcontribs) 01:16, 19 June 2010 (UTC)
Still, you could have asked WikiProject International relations as well, since you did modify their assessment template, and put a whole bunch of articles from another WikiProject under their scope. Still willing to run DodoBot to edit those pages if I can see at least a small bit of consensus, although I will be on holiday this week, so won't be able to do it till Friday. - EdoDodo talk 06:34, 19 June 2010 (UTC)

ArticleAlertBot revive or replace

ArticleAlertBot has been non-functioning for several months. Can it either be revived or replaced? The most useful function is to alert Projects of articles within their scope which have been PRODded or sent to AfD. The big drive to clear out the backlog of UBLPs would be helped enormously if the Projects could have this function restored asap. Any chance someone could help?--Plad2 (talk) 18:05, 22 June 2010 (UTC)

Railway station talk pages not showing WikiProject Stations

Hi there Bot Operators; I think I may have a task for one of you. The talk page banner TrainsWikiProject has a parameter |stations=yes, which if present, marks the article as falling within WP:STA. Unfortunately, in a significant number of cases, this parameter has been mis-entered as |Stations=yes, which isn't recognised in the intended fashion.

The task: for all talk pages (associated with any namespace) bearing TrainsWikiProject, or any of its redirects, check within that banner template, and apply changes according to these rules:

  • If the parameter |Stations= is not present, do nothing and move on to the next page.
  • If |Stations= is present, but |stations= is not present, alter |Stations= to |stations=, retaining its existing value.
  • If both |Stations= and |stations= are present, check their values according to the rules of :
    • if |Stations= is "no", remove it whatever the value of |stations=
    • if |stations= is "yes", remove |Stations= whatever its value
    • if |Stations= is "yes", but |stations= is "no", alter value of |stations= to "yes" and remove |Stations=

Is that OK as a spec? (I have previously asked Adambro if AdambroBot could do it, but he's busy and pointed me here). --Redrose64 (talk) 19:38, 22 June 2010 (UTC)

Much easier to just do this. –xenotalk 19:42, 22 June 2010 (UTC)
Thanks; but that doesn't cover the (hypothetical) case of both existing in the template. I say hypothetical, because I don't know of any existing cases; but I'm sure I've encountered it before. If the banner does have both, ie |Stations=yes|stations=yes, this will now be passed on as |tf 1=yesyes, which will be interpreted by as "no". Further, the |stations= parameter is also passed through to , which you seem to have overlooked. --Redrose64 (talk) 19:52, 22 June 2010 (UTC)
[14] For the latter. Running a query on the former. –xenotalk 19:56, 22 June 2010 (UTC)
You could instead use |tf 1={{{stations|{}}}} Then the lowercase form will have priority over the uppercase form. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 19:58, 22 June 2010 (UTC)
I thought of that; but I want the "yes" to have priority over the "no", hence my last instruction on the original spec. --Redrose64 (talk) 20:12, 22 June 2010 (UTC)
Scan complete, there are only 3 articles with duplicated "stations" parameters: Talk:Berlin Hauptbahnhof; Talk:Chester-le-Street railway station; Talk:22nd Street (HBLR station). 4511 articles use the capital "Stations=", fwiw. Making edits just to change the case would be extremely wasteful now that the template recognizes it. –xenotalk 20:37, 22 June 2010 (UTC)
Thank you OK; but have still edited the three you mention: it's not a good idea to have almost-duplicated parameters. --Redrose64 (talk) 21:17, 22 June 2010 (UTC)
Definitely. I left them for you to do =) Marking this  Not donexenotalk 22:31, 22 June 2010 (UTC)

Make redirects from titles with correct Romanian diacritics to the currently used diacritics

We at ro.wp are currently in the process of changing the widely used, but incorrect Romanian diacritics (Ş,Ţ) with the correct, but somewhat less used versions (Ṣ,Ṭ). You can find more informations here and here. This creates serious problems for around 8% of the users, so we implemented some JS solutions for them. Unfortunately, it's not feasible to implement those at en.wp, so the incorrect diacritics should remain for a while.

However, it would be useful to have redirections made from S/T-comma titles to S/T-cedilla titles, so people with Win Vista/7 can write the titles directly and to keep the links from ro.wp in good order.

I have a pywikipedia robot that does the replacement for all the pages. Its code is available here. I was wondering if there was somebody with bot rights that was willing to run it? Thanks.--Strainu (talk) 10:33, 12 June 2010 (UTC)

Well there's no such thing as "bot rights" (at least, not here on en.wp), each individual bot and task has to get approval through a bot request. You can file a bot request for approval if you already have the code ready, since anyone else will also have to file one (since even for somebody who already runs bots this would be a new task, so require new approval). - EdoDodo talk 11:42, 12 June 2010 (UTC)
I'm not terribly familiar with pywikipedia, but it looks like your code goes through the entire list of pages looking for the few with the problem letters. This would be extremely inefficient here on enwiki, given that only 12692 of the 7503387 page titles in the enwiki "all titles in ns0" dump from 2010-05-14 contain S/T-cedilla.
I also note that your code appears to check for a template titlu corect to detect articles with non-Romanian titles containing S/T-cedilla that don't need redirects. Obviously, this template doesn't exist here on enwiki, and probably there is nothing equivalent. How many of the 12692 don't need S/T-comma redirects? Is there any way for a bot to reliably check? Anomie 14:54, 12 June 2010 (UTC)
Anomie, the code can be adapted to go through a list of pages from a file (like the one you made). I can do that for you. While there is no 100% sure way for a bot to determine if an article has a Romanian or Turkish title (S-cedilla is used in Turkish), a pretty good way is to check if a certain article is included directly or indirectly in Category:Turkey. I did that for a few articles and I could always reach the top category. However, I have no idea if code has already been written for this (I know there is a script that allows for all the articles in a category to be listed, but then one should match the 2 lists). Furthermore, you should remove the redirects from your list, that could reduce the running time.
EdoDodo, I preferred not to run the code myself, but rather to ask for help exactly because I'm not familiar with the rules here. Also, when saying "bot rights", I was referring to the bot flag.--Strainu (talk) 17:39, 12 June 2010 (UTC)
But if a Romanian topic "Şomething" redirects to "Something", wouldn't you want to create the redirect "Ṣomething" also pointing to "Something"? Anomie 19:12, 12 June 2010 (UTC)
Hmmm... I guess you are right :) So, if we sort out all the technical details, would you be willing to run such a bot, either with my code or some other code?--Strainu (talk) 08:12, 13 June 2010 (UTC)
With my own code, yes. Anomie 18:38, 13 June 2010 (UTC)
Thanks. Please let me know how I can help you.--Strainu (talk) 18:47, 13 June 2010 (UTC)
Figure out how to tell if the articles' titles are Romanian rather than Turkish, Kurdish, Zazaki, Azerbaijani, Crimean Tatar, Gagauz, Tatar, or Turkmen (based on the list at Cedilla#Use of the cedilla with the letter S). I tried your category idea on the database dump from 2010-03-12 (the one from 2010-05-14 is missing some of the needed data for this analysis), but it doesn't seem to work too well since Category:Romania is in Category:Black Sea countries which is in Category:Black Sea which is in Category:Landforms of Turkey which is in Category:Geography of Turkey which is in Category:Turkey (and the same can be done to find Category:Romania as a parent of Category:Turkey, for that matter). Anomie 22:26, 13 June 2010 (UTC)

How about we do this semi-manually? Based on your list, we could create the following lists:

  1. Pages directly included in a category containing "Turkey"/"Turkish" (e.g. "Cities of Turkey") - not interesting for our goal
  2. Pages that contain as part of their title a title from the list above, but could not be included in it (if they exist, I could find none) - add this to list #1
  3. Pages directly included in a category containing "Romania" (e.g. "Rivers of Romania", but also "Romanian people stubs") - we need to create redirects for those
  4. Pages that contain as part of their title a title from the list above, but could not be included in it (e.g. Alexandru Vlahuţă is in the list above, but Alexandru Vlahuţă, Vaslui is not) - add this to list #3
  5. The rest of the articles - depending on the number in this list, we will see if I can go through it by hand or we need further criteria

I'll try to write some code and generate the lists today EET.--Strainu (talk) 08:45, 14 June 2010 (UTC)

I just had an idea: what if we look at articles tagged by WikiProject Romania? I'm also going to ask WikiProject Romania for any input they may have. Anomie 12:56, 14 June 2010 (UTC)

Here's a critical question: what about the body of articles? Unless we can determine the bot to perform changes within and throughout the articles, I for one advise against the change, at least for the time being. As for how to determine the articles, I find that WP:RO tags are a good guide (as re the WikiProject Moldova ones, btw!), and I could also suggest making the bot operate the changes in articles where both ş and ţ are present together (except perhaps the articles on these letters, where, say, Turkish and Romanian words are likely to be mixed together). I'm also positive that a bot operating changes for ş and ţ in articles which use ş, ţ, â, î and ă together will result in almost no errors.

Whatever the outcome and decision, I urge careful planning of the move, because the risk of ending up with a huge inconsistency is serious, and the task of fixing would be immense and annoying. As we speak, Romanian wikipedia itself is quite inconsistent. Dahn (talk) 15:38, 14 June 2010 (UTC)

Update: apologies, I hadn't realized this was not yet a move proposal, and I find the redirect creation very constructive as a preliminary step. But please consider my other points for the next steps. Thank you. Dahn (talk) 15:52, 14 June 2010 (UTC)
The creation of redirects was also the first step at ro.wp. As I said above, since it is not feasible to implement the same JS tricks from ro.wp at en.wp, we cannot consider going any further than this for a long time from now on.--Strainu (talk) 18:04, 14 June 2010 (UTC)
Absolutely, and I apologize again for not getting you right the first time. But please review the suggestions I made above, which work for both finding redirects and the eventual transition: would it be safe to say that an article where ş and ţ are present alongside each other, like an article where both are present alongside ă, î and â, could use a ṣ or ṭ redirect (presuming this occurs only in Romania- and Moldova-related articles)? And is it feasible to make the bot search these specific parameters? If so, at least part of the problem of finding the relevant articles is solved.
Incidentally, one could in theory create ṣ redirects for Turkish, Azerbaijani etc. ş articles, as long as they remain just redirects. There's no saying that the redirects have to be 100% correct. Provided we also keep a listing of all these redirects, we could then specify which ones should become article titles (Romanian) and which ones should not (Turkish, etc.). It's one way to approach this. Dahn (talk) 18:18, 14 June 2010 (UTC)

I was able to identify 4968 articles that need redirects and 886 that don't need redirects. Unfortunately, logging of the leftovers failed, so I need to filter Anomie's list and then try to identify pages with WikiProject Romania, WPRO, WikiProject Moldova or WPMoldova.--Strainu (talk) 22:31, 14 June 2010 (UTC)

The 6814 remaining articles are at User:Strainu/leftover. I will continue filtering tonight.--Strainu (talk) 09:21, 15 June 2010 (UTC)

I have applied all the filters described above, then took the pages by hand. The final result is here - around 9000 articles. If you see any obvious mistake, please go ahead and correct it.--Strainu (talk) 20:47, 15 June 2010 (UTC)
