Administrator Elections | Instructions for candidates

Thank you for choosing to run in the October 2024 administrator elections. This bulletin contains some important information about the next stages of the election process.

As a reminder, the schedule of the election is:

  • Oct 8 – Oct 14 - Candidate sign-up
  • Oct 22 – Oct 24 - Discussion phase
  • Oct 25 – Oct 31 - SecurePoll voting phase

The sign-up period is now closed, and the three-day discussion phase will begin on October 22. There is no official election phase between October 15 and October 21.

Before the discussion phase opens, an election subpage will be created for each candidate, where they will be able to post a self-nomination statement or nomination statements from other editors. Similar to RfA, it will also contain the three standard adminship questions, as well as the optional questions and general discussion sections for use in the discussion phase. Each candidate will be notified individually once their subpage has been created. Your subpage will be located at [TBC].

On October 22, the discussion phase will open. Users will be able to discuss the candidates and ask them questions on their subpage; however, they must not indicate support or opposition. The discussion phase will run for three days, closing on October 24.

Once the discussion phase has ended, your discussion page will be closed and no more comments can be added there. Individual editors may still contact you on your user talk page; you may choose to, but are not expected to answer further questions there.

The voting phase will begin on October 25 and run for seven days. Voting will be conducted through SecurePoll, which uses a secret ballot. Please note that the vote tallies cannot be made public until after voting has ended and as such, it will not be possible for you to see your tally during the election. The suffrage requirements are different from those at RFA.

Once voting concludes, the results will be scrutinized and posted on the main election page. In order to be granted adminship, a candidate must have recieved at least 70% support, calculated as Support / (Support + Oppose). As this is a vote and not a consensus, there are no bureaucrat discussions ("crat chats").

While there is no formal electoral commission, the bureaucrats are entrusted with managing the electoral process and addressing any issues. Questions can be asked on the election talk page.
