Sanskrit language - Can Wikipedia help catalyze the revival of the language that dates back to 1500 BC ?

The first Wikipedia Academy in India for 2010 is planned for the Jan 23, 2010, at the CIS offices, Bangalore.

About Wikipedia Academies

Wikipedia Academies are public outreach events aimed at engaging academics, other subject-matter experts and anyone else who are not familiar with wiki culture or online communities. In presentations and workshops, experienced Wikipedia authors teach the participants how to contribute to Wikipedia and orient the audience to Wikipedia’s structures and community policies.

Intended Audience

This Wikipedia Academy is intended for the following:

  • General public Wikipedia users - current users of Wikipedia or any Wikimedia projects. (interested to contribute content)
  • Wikipedians - Contributors to Wikipedia content in all languages. (You can help, introduce new wikipedians to the fold.)
  • Sanskrit Language specialists and those working on Computing in Indian languages.

This is a free event and open to all.

Directions to Cunningham road

  • From Shivaji Nagar Bus stand , come to Indian Express Bus Stop Junction, and go straight to Cunningham Road.
  • From Vidhan Soudha/GPO come directly to Indian Express Bus Stop Junction from there left turn into Cunningham Road.

Directions from Cunningham road to Venue

On Cunningham Road, about half a kilometre from the Indian Express Junction, Center for Internet and Society (CIS) is located behind Wockhardt Hospital (in the same building). This building is right next to Sigma mall.

You will need to walk to the rear of the Wockhardt building and get to the 3rd floor.

Event proceeedings

A team of roughly 3 wikipedians volunteered to assist the Sanskrita Bharathi participants in their first steps of editing, not only on the day of the Academy, but in the weeks and months to follow.

There were 11 Sanskrita Bharathi participants at the Academy. They were be introduced to Wikipedia and contributing to wikipedia content.

  4. Create Samskrit wikipedia logo -- Wikipedia currently has English Wikipedia logo. Samskrit specific logo to be created.
