Wikipedia:2008 main page redesign proposal/RyRy 2/About

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Alright, since some people have asked what the changes are in my Main Page redesign proposal compared to the current Main Page, I'll just list them here:

  • Note: When (and if) this design becomes the new Main Page design, please remember that the title "Main Page" will not be on the page. So in my proposal, the featured article would be seen more easily without the title when it reached the Main Page.
  • I've switched the "Did you know..." and "In the news" sections. I feel DYK should be looked more upon than the ITN section, as DYK shows more facts of things people most likely don't know about yet, while ITN shows facts people might have already heard of on television, radio, etc. They both show wikipedia's work on articles (DYK being new or recently expanded articles), but I still feel they should be switched.
  • Now switched back.
  • Instead of the middle sections (FA, DYK, ITN, OTD) being one side 45% wide, and the other 55% wide, I've evened them up to be 50% each. This is so the right side wouldn't be squished together since DYK was moved there.
  • Now switched back.
  • I've removed the site news and the Wikipedia:local embassy links, as they aren't really used often.
  • I've removed the "Other areas of Wikipedia" section.
  • Obviously, you can see I've added colored boxes to the bottom sections.
  • I've switched the "Wikipedia languages" and "Wikipedia's sister projects" sections.

So even if you did not notice it before, I've actually made quite a lot of changes. I didn't want a whole revamp to the Main Page, so I thought this would do. Well, I hope you like my proposal!
