"What Would You Do" is a song by South Korean singer Wonho. It was released through Highline Entertainment and distributed by The Orchard on November 22, 2024.[3] It marked the singer's first release since his mandatory military service enlistment in 2022.[4]
Background and release
[edit]On November 11, 2024, a story was posted to Wonho's Instagram profile, with the question "What would you do... if I released a song?". Hours later, the song was officially announced along with its release date and a link to pre-save the song on streaming services.[5]
From November 11, 2024 to November 20, 2024, promotional content was posted on the singer's social media accounts, teasing the song's lyrics and music video.[6] The single was ultimately released on November 22, 2024, accompanied by its music video.[7]
Composition
[edit]"What Would You Do" is commonly described as a mid-tempo,[1] pop and R&B ballad,[8] with melancholic lyrics about making someone understand the consequence of their actions after a break-up.[9]
Music video
[edit]The music video was simultaneously released with the single on November 22, 2024. It was directed by Bart, with production company Flipevil.[10] It features Wonho, and clones of him, exploring an abandoned warehouse, in which the lyrics of the song are embodied through the surroundings of the room. The video, edited to appear as though filmed in a single take,[11] ends abruptly with Wonho being run over by a car, paying homage to 1985 movie Back to the Future.[8]
Live performance
[edit]Wonho performed "What Would You Do" for the magazine Men Noblesse. The performance was uploaded to YouTube on November 30, 2024.[12]
Wonho is set to perform the song at the iHeart Jingle Ball tour, including stops in Dallas, Chicago, Detroit, and Miami between December 3 to December 21, 2024.[13]
The song is also expected to be performed at the U.S. stops for Wonho's Welcome Back, Wenee fan meet-up tour between December 4 to December 19, 2024.[14]
