We Bury the Dead is a 2025 survival horror thriller film written and directed by Zak Hilditch. It stars Daisy Ridley, Mark Coles Smith, Brenton Thwaites and Matt Whelan.
Premise
[edit]Ava Newman (Daisy Ridley), a desperate woman, searches for her husband in the aftermath of a catastrophic military experiment. Hoping to find him alive, Ava joins a "body retrieval unit", but her search takes a chilling turn when the corpses she's burying start showing signs of life.[2]

Production
[edit]In October 2023, it was announced that a survival thriller film titled We Bury the Dead was in development, with Zak Hilditch directing and writing, and Daisy Ridley starring in the lead role. Principal photography began on February 19, 2024 in Albany, Western Australia.[4][5][6] Mark Coles Smith and Brenton Thwaites joined the cast of the film.[7] In March, Kym Jackson, Matt Whelan and Deanna Cooney joined the cast, as Lt. Wilkie, Mitch and Bianca respectively.[8]
Filming wrapped on March 26, 2024.[9]
Release
[edit]We Bury the Dead premiered at the 2025 South by Southwest Film & TV Festival in March.[10] In May 2025, Vertical acquired North American distribution rights to the film, planning to release it sometime in 2026.[11]
