WFNE-LP is a low-power FM (Formerly AM) radio station located in Wake Forest, North Carolina and licensed to EPIC Radio Inc.[1] Its tower and studio are located on South White Street, just south of downtown Wake Forest.

WFNE-LP carries Catholic radio programming from Relevant Radio, Ave Maria Radio, and Vatican Radio.[2] As a low-power station, it is licensed as a non-commercial, educational radio station.

History (LPFM)

[edit]

Previously the station was licensed to All Saints Catholic Media which transferred the license to the current licensee in 2019.[3] All Saints Catholic Media had applied for the construction permit for the station in 2013 during the new filing window for low-power FM radio stations. It was granted and the station was originally licensed on 96.5FM.[4] Later the construction permit was amended for the station to operate on the frequency 107.7FM[5] before it finally settled on 103.5FM in March 2015.[6] The license to cover was granted on October 19, 2015.[7]

The station originally carried a straight syndicated feed from the EWTN Global Catholic Radio Network.

In 2019, All Saints Catholic Media dissolved and transferred the license to EPIC Radio Inc. EPIC Radio Inc subsequently switched the station's affiliation to Relevant Radio. In 2021, the station began carrying syndicated programs from Ave Maria Radio in the overnight hours including Kresta in the Afternoon with Al Kresta and Christ is the Answer with Fr. John Riccardo. In 2023, the station signed an agreement to carry Vatican and World News produced by Vatican Radio at the Dicastery for Communication in Rome, Italy, making the station the only Vatican Radio affiliate in North Carolina.
