Lowen Ashleigh, a struggling writer, accepts an offer from Jeremy Crawford that could not be refused: to finish the three last books of a successful series by Verity Crawford, Jeremy's wife and a best-selling author who is paralyzed from a car accident. After accepting, Lowen temporarily moves to their house.
In the home office, Lowen finds an unfinished manuscript written by Crawford. After reading it, Lowen realizes that it should not be shared with anyone, due to it containing multiple alleged confessions, including the suspicious deaths of her daughters.
Lowen decides to hide the document from Jeremy, knowing that it would haunt him. But as Lowen's feelings for Jeremy intensify and her suspicion that Verity may not be paralyzed grows, she realizes that Jeremy should read the manuscript before things get out of hand.
