His Eminence Sheikh Dr. Mohamed Rasheed Ibrahim was born on 25 September 1942. Sheikh Dr. Mohamed Rasheed Ibrahim memorized the Noble Qur’an at a young age. He received his Quran memorization certificate on December 3, 1961.

He studied at the Faydiya School on his island and at the Baqiyat Salihat Arabic College in South India, then joined Al-Azhar University in Egypt, where he obtained an elementary certificate from Al-Azhar University in 1963, a secondary school certificate in 1967, a secondary school diploma from the Faculty of Shari’a and Law in 1971, a master’s degree in comparative jurisprudence from the Faculty of Shari’a and Law in 1973, and a general diploma in education from the Faculty of Education in 1974, from the same university, respectively. His Eminence obtained a PhD from the Faculty of Revealed Knowledge and Humanities of the Islamic University of Maldives, entitled: “Problems of the Muslim Family in the Maldives and their Remedy in the Light of Sharia”.

His Eminence Sheikh Dr. Mohamed Rasheed Ibrahim first joined a job on November 17, 1974 as a teacher at Abu Ubaida Madrasah in Dammam, Saudi Arabia. He also worked as a professor and cultural supervisor at Imam Mohammad Ibn Saud Islamic University in Riyadh; and lecturer at the Faculty of Sharia at Imam Mohammad Ibn Saud Islamic University in Riyadh. He then returned to Maldives in 1981 and joined the Office of the President. He also served as a special counsel for the President's Office. He was also the first Nazir of Al Madhrasathul Arabiyyathul Islamiyyah.

His Eminence Sheikh Dr. Mohamed Rasheed Ibrahim served as the Chief Justice of Maldives for 12 years. He was the Minister of Justice from 1989 to 1993 and the Minister of Justice and Islamic Affairs from 1993 to 1996. He has also served as President of the Judicial Services Commission of the Maldives, Special Adviser to the President and Presidential Appointed Member of the People's Majlis, Chairman of the Special Committee to Advise the President on Judicial and Legal Matters.

His Eminence Sheikh Dr. Mohamed Rasheed Ibrahim has served the Maldivian state for more than 40 years. Dr. Mohamed Rasheed Ibrahim was awarded Order of the Distinguished Rule of Izzuddin on November 10, 2008.

His Eminence Sheikh Dr. Mohamed Rasheed Ibrahim is currently the President of the Supreme Council of Islamic Fatwa. He was appointed to this position on August 3, 2016.
