Leonard Peltier picture request

[edit]

Here is my draft of a letter to the Leonard Peltier Defense Committee requesting an image to put on his wikipedia page:

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing you to request a public domain picture of Leonard Peltier to add to his Wikipedia article. If there are not any public domain pictures available another option is a Creative Commons license, the details of which can be found at http://creativecommons.org/about/ , where you can allow the image to be used for certain purposes and still maintain rights reserved by copyrights.

Sincerely,

Comments/suggestions are welcome! Feltcap (talk) 19:02, 23 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Looks good how about something like this

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing you in an attempt to obtain an image of Leonard Peltier for use on Wikipeida. We think that it is important for there to be rich, useful information available about the situation. I am contacting you because I have been unable to find an image which is compatible with the licensing requirements of the Wikipedia project.

If you know where I might obtain a quality image of Mr. Peltier to add to the project, we would be much appreciative.
If you own the copyright to any images, I urge you to release them into the public domain or license them under a more useful agreement.
The Creative Commons "Attribution" or "Attribution-ShareAlike" licenses ( more information on these licenses can be found here: http://creativecommons.org/about/ ) would be acceptable alternatives to "public domain".

If you have any insight at all to this situation I would greatly appreciate you assistance. Thank you for your time, we are anxiously awaiting your response. Thanks.

Sincerely,

I think a little more description is maybe good? Also, I know concision is good, but but really short messages look more like spam. A slightly meatier body sometimes implys that you took time to reach out, they should take time to comply... maybe? I think your draft looks fine in all honesty, maybe a happy medium? Pick it, send it, cooool. (also, here is the basic request I post on flickr) ./zro (⠠⠵) 21:51, 23 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Another revision... Thoughts, etc.
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing you in an attempt to obtain an image of Leonard Peltier for use on Wikipedia. I am contacting you because i have been unable to to find an image which is compatible with the licensing requirements of the Wikipedia project (http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Wikipedia:Image_copyright_tags).
If you know where I could obtain a quality image that is in the public domain, that information would be greatly appreciated, as well as serve to enhance Mr. Peltier's Wikipedia article. If you own the copyright to any images you could release them into the public domain or, as an alternative, look into an agreement such as the Creative Commons license. The Creative Commons "Attribution" or "Attribution-Share-Alike" licenses (information on these can be found here: http://creativecommons.org/about/) are acceptable for use on Wikipedia, and allow you to retain some of the rights allowed you by copyright.
Any help you can give regarding this issue, or any other information you think would be valuable to Mr. Peltier's Wikpedia article, again, would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time, I anxiously await your response in hopes of improving public knowledge on this issue.
Sincerely,

these images are liberated, and some people have articles. Some don't. Am going to go through it when i have more time and see what needs articles and what images go with existing articles. more info ./zro (⠠⠵) 05:56, 3 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

flickr boilerplate

[edit]

This is my new boiler plate text i use to write comments to flickr users.

This is a great photo.
I'd like to use it on wikipedia.
To do so, you must release it under a more free license.
(if you in fact are the creator or own the copyright)
You can set the Creative Commons Attribution or Attribution-ShareAlike from the side bar under "Additional Information" on this page. Either is compatible with Wikipedia.

I urge you to do so as the article on ########## desperately needs a photo.
I'll check back here!

Thanks for your time and help!
