Abe Jones

[edit]

Hello, and thank you for trying to improve the article about Abe Jones Jr. I thought I needed to explain why I undid some of your changes.

Some of the additions you made were factually incorrect:

  • Mr Jones didn't start playing in the Football League in 1919;
  • he didn't play for Stoke in the Football League;
  • there's nothing in the article to verify his date of death as after 1924 – he was known to be alive in 1924, but that doesn't verify after.

Others ran counter to the standard formatting used here, e.g.:

  • If we don't know the dates a player was at a club, it's standard practice to leave the field in the infobox blank, not to write "unknown" or similar. Similarly, if we haven't done any research on part of a subject's life or career, we don't write that that part of his life is unknown: it isn't unknown, it's just that no-one's added any details to the Wikipedia article yet.
  • Where a subject has a nickname that's just a common contraction of their first name, we don't need to repeat it in the opening sentence: see MOS:NICKNAME.
  • British English for a player of soccer football is footballer, not football player.
  • It's standard to keep separate references separate, and to be as precise as possible, within reason, to make it clear where the cited content comes from and easier for a reader wishing to verify the content to do so: in Mr Jones's case, his personal data and the clubs he played for are on page 101 of the Matthews book, and the actual games he played in are on p.162. See WP:CITEHOW, WP:CITEVAR, WP:CITEPAGE.

If there's anything you want to ask, please feel free. I'll leave the page alone for a bit, in case there's something else you need explaining, and then restore the standard formatting. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 14:31, 26 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion nomination of Indie Advertisers

[edit]

Hello Zhanglispain,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Indie Advertisers for deletion, because the article doesn't clearly say why the subject is important enough to be included in an encyclopedia.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions.
