Your creation of List of Richest Fictional Characters

[edit]

A tag has been placed on List of Richest Fictional Characters, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. If you plan to expand the article, you can request that administrators wait a while for you to add contextual material. To do this, affix the template {{hangon}} to the article and state your intention on the article's talk page. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Unspecified source for Image:Charles_Tiffany.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Charles_Tiffany.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 21:37, 14 September 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Wikidudeman (talk) 21:37, 14 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Possibly unfree Image:Moses Taylor.jpg

You are welcome to add comments to its entry at the discussion if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you. JimIrwin 12:29, 15 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading Image:Bill Melinda Foundation.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Oysterguitarist 21:56, 15 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! I noticed on your contribution log that you have uploaded many images of various people. I'm curious as to where you got these images from. Could you leave me a note on my talk page with more info? Thanks! —Remember the dot (talk) 03:46, 24 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Photos

[edit]

Hello.

I got most of these images by my paint of my Personal Computer, the source of their related photos have been found though internet searching, I however, the content of these images have been thoroughly checked for copyright address on them before being put though.

         Sincerely Jughead.z(1)
It is not necessary for a copyrighted image to contain an embedded copyright notice before it is protected by law, so if the absence of an embedded copyright notice was your criteria for use in Wikipedia, then your criteria is flawed. My understanding is that a creative work is automatically copyrighted (in the U.S. at least) the moment it is created. A copyright notice is usually helpful if the creator wants to sue over its use, but in principle the only thing the creator needs to demonstrate is that he or she actually did create the work, and that they never released it to the public domain. I deleted Image:Bernard Arnault 01331.jpg. You are most probably not the photographer, so you cannot legally put this image into the public domain.

For the umpteenth time: you cannot take photos from Internet searches (save in very specific cases) and put them on Wikipedia, this is simply gross copyright violation. David.Monniaux 08:53, 25 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There is no need to add "leap year" ages to persons born on Feb 29th. It is not a standard method of calculating age, nor would it be automatically updated by the age tag. Image copyrights

[edit]

It looks like you could use some help with adding the correct copyright info to images that you upload. For instance, Image:Robert Todd Lincoln Beckwith.jpg is probably a free image from the US government, but it isn't something you created. If you would like help with your images, just reply here, right under my message, and I'll help you. - Peregrine Fisher 03:21, 19 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:BasilII small.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:BasilII small.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 14:59, 25 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Alain Le Roux small.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Alain Le Roux small.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 11:30, 29 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:Leonardo Del Vecchio.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use.

If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 03:01, 3 November 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Dantadd 03:01, 3 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:CleopatraVII portrait small.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:CleopatraVII portrait small.jpg.

Thanks for uploading Image:David Thomson31.jpg.

Fair use image problems

[edit]

I notice you have uploaded the image Image:Paul Allen.jpg with the {{current tag name}} fair use image tag. However, this tag seems unrelated to the content of the image, and as a result it may qualify for speedy deletion. Image:Paul Allen.jpg has been tagged for deletion, and may have been deleted by the time you see this message.

If you can find a valid tag that expresses why Image:Paul Allen.jpg can be used under the fair use guidelines, please replace the {{current tag name}} tag that you have placed on it with that tag. If no such tag exists, please add the {{non-free fair use in|article name that the image is used in}} tag, along with a brief explanation of why this constitutes fair use of the image. If the image has been deleted, you can re-upload it, but please ensure you place the correct tag on it. However, you must not remove the speedy deletion notice. Thank you, and please feel free to continue contributing to Wikipedia. Miranda 09:24, 19 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Image:François Pinault.jpg, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Image:François Pinault.jpg is unquestionably copyright infringement, and no assertion of permission has been made.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Image:François Pinault.jpg, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. Principality of Sealand

[edit]

I have noticed that you have edited the infobox for the Principality of Sealand (though it was changed back). This article needs to be improved, including the infobox. The reason it was changed back was because there is constant disagreement as to whether Sealand is a nation or not. I am trying to change the micronation infobox so that it is similar to the country infobox - that way this disagreement will be avoided. Is it possible for you to include the edits of your change to the infobox into the improvement, with sources - that way it won't be deleted. I think the country infobox is better, but at the moment there is a lot of disagreement. Onecanadasquarebishopsgate (talk) 14:13, 17 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You overstate the case, Onecanadasquarebishopsgate. Sealand is not a recognised country, and most of the fields in that template do not apply to tiny micronations (GDP, population, ethnic groups, etc). It's ridiculous. The article has to reflect published opinion.
You've now been reverted twice in this matter, Jughead; please do not add the country infobox back to that article as it may be considered vandalism and given your long history of warnings you may be blocked this time. --kingboyk (talk) 10:59, 27 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the reply. I apologise if my tone was threatening. If you'd like to improve the micronations infobox feel free to edit it ({{Infobox Micronation}}) to make it more useful or better still, talk to Wikipedia:WikiProject Micronations about how it could be improved. The countries infobox certainly isn't appropriate for the Sealand article, however. Thanks again. --kingboyk (talk) 18:33, 27 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Wealthiest non-inflated historical figures, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you agree with the deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add {{db-author}} to the top of Wealthiest non-inflated historical figures. The stub type, which was not proposed at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals, does not meet the standard requirements for a stub type, either through being incorrectly named, ambiguously scoped, or through failure to meet standards relating to the current stub hierarchy or likely size, as explained at Wikipedia:Stub. Original Research?

Quick question: are you making the inflation-adjsutment calculations behind the numbers in the articles Wealthy historical figures 2006, Wealthy historical figures 2007, and Wealthy historical figures 2008, and other similar articles? I checked the sources, and the numbers in the sources (and certain of the rankings in them) do not match the numbers in the articles. I am trying to track down the ultimate sources for the specific data in those WP articles; any light you can shed would be much appreciated. Thanks! To reduce confusion, we should have only have one copy (and you seem to be using Image:William Weightman (manufacturer).jpg) and it might be better to have it at Wikimedia Commons). Can you tell me which one you'd like to use and I'll delete the others. Also, if you are going to upload public domain images, I'd suggest doing it at Commons so that every wiki can use it if they want. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 00:44, 19 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Not a virus or other concern. Having excess images is similar to having multiple copies of articles floating around. It can be confusing; it's better to have a single image to link to. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 00:55, 19 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Academy award image in infobox

[edit]

Have you discussed adding this image to film infoboxes on a talk page, particularly the talk page for the infobox template? If not, it can be challenged and the image can be removed. Infoboxes have parameters for what should be included, and right now there is no specification that such an image can be included in Template:Infobox_film. I don't recall seeing such an image for an award in an infobox for a film. Perhaps you have discussed this somewhere, but I would like to know that before you continue adding to every film that has won an Oscar. It could end up being a huge waste of time for you and whoever has to remove them. Please respond. Thank you. Ward3001 (talk) 21:51, 2 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your reply. I think I understand why you are adding the image. My main concern is whether it is acceptable to the Wikipedia community. Infoboxes are usually crafted after some discussion (and sometimes disagreement and compromise) about what should be included. One editor taking it upon himself/herself to decide what goes in the infobox runs the risk of being rejected by other editors. And if enough people disagree, you've wasted a lot of time. And those of us who have to change all the articles back have more work to do. As an example, some people have added flag icons to dozens (perhaps hundreds) of bio articles. The Wikipedia community did not like that (see WP:FLAG for details), so they all had to be removed. It continues to happen.
I'm not saying that your insertion of the Oscar image will meet with disapproval. But I think you should raise the issue on Template talk:Infobox Film before you add to more film pages, then wait a while for responses to see what the general thinking is. Thanks. Ward3001 (talk) 22:24, 2 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
My concern isn't so much with the Infobox parameters, but its inclusion in it tilts it to an American-centric focus and copyright issues. This is ENGLISH WP, not American WP. I am removing the images since there isn't room for other awards such as BAFTAs and Golden Globes. I appreciate your interest in enhancing film article, but your history of copyright infringement cocncerns -- especially with images -- gives me pause, especially since legal use of this image is very much in question.
Jim Dunning | talk 23:14, 2 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • WP:FUC rule #8 states that "Non-free content is used only if its presence would significantly increase readers' understanding of the topic, and its omission would be detrimental to that understanding." The current interpretation of that rule is that fair use images cannot be used merely as decorative icons on infoboxes. Cheers. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 23:31, 2 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Arguing that inclusion "would significantly increase readers' understanding" of the topic would be difficult since Academy Awards aren't that important, and awards can always be mentioned in the article body.

I do not feel that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Wealthiest families in history. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? Rodhullandemu (Talk) 22:40, 1 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your message. The AfD process will last five days; if you can improve the article to meet policy in that time, that's fine. If it will take longer than that, I suggest you copy it to a subpage and work on it there. --Rodhullandemu (Talk) 00:09, 2 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Harkness Family logo.png)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Harkness Family logo.png.

Thank you. BJBot (talk) 12:27, 4 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Better source request for Image:Marcus Licinius Crassus02201.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Marcus Licinius Crassus02201.jpg. You provided a source, but it is difficult for other users to examine the copyright status of the image because the source is incomplete. Please consider clarifying the exact source so that the copyright status may be checked more easily. It is best to specify the exact web page where you found the image, rather than only giving the source domain or the URL of the image file itself. Please update the image description with a URL that will be more helpful to other users in determining the copyright status.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source in a complete manner. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page or me at my talkpage. Thank you. —Bkell (talk) 18:36, 24 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:Richard B. Mellon.jpg.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thanks for uploading File:Frasier Apartment Building exterior shot.jpg.

[edit]

Thanks for your uploads. You've indicated that the following images are being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why they meet Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page an image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

This is an automated notice by FairuseBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. --15:45, 9 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have nominated Centibillionaire, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Centibillionaire. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

Please contact me if you're unsure why you received this message. Ash (talk) 13:45, 19 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is List of wealthiest historical figures. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of wealthiest historical figures (2nd nomination). Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.

Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 01:10, 5 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
