Women in esports/video games

[edit]

Hi @Zcue, I saw your edit/self-revert on Women and video games and was curious what your plans are. I'd be willing to help write, especially since I should have access to quite a few of the scholarly sources you're using, but I also just want to make sure that there's enough separation between the topics of woman and video games and women and esports. E.g., I skimmed the first source you have in the draft (Paaßen, Morgenroth, Stratemeyer (2017). "What is a True Gamer? The Male Gamer Stereotype and the Marginalization of Women in Video Game Culture") and didn't see anything in there at all specific to esports. Do you want to add this as a section in the "w + vg" article or publish a new article? If the latter, we just need to make sure the sourcing is up to snuff. Ok I actually just realized that you weren't the person who added the Stratemeyer source, but you did include the sentence "Women have participated competitively in Esports since the establishment of professional leagues" which, at the time, didn't have a source. So slightly different question, but yes, statements like that will need sources specific to women and esports. Alyo (chat·edits) 14:12, 7 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I was thinking to create a new section for competitive esports. Will be working on the sources further. Appreciate the information on needing sources to back up my statements. Zcue (talk) 19:16, 18 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Zcue So are you ok just adding this material into Women and video games, or do you really want to make a new article specifically about esports? Alyo (chat·edits) 14:59, 21 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
