Hi. When you get a chance, would you please take another look at the lede of Candide? I've reworked it in accordance with your and others' suggestions... Should it be still longer? What information is missing? Thanks! -- Rmrfstar (talk) 09:27, 30 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

For literary articles, I tend to approach the lead as first having the bibliographical and publication detail in one paragraph. Then having a short summary of plot. Then a summary of themes. This way you have before, during, after, in a sense. You are currently missing some plot summary (two lines more, maybe three - you have almost one now). Also, your lead doesn't build - you have lines like "is often listed as part of the Western canon and taught more than any other work of French literature.[6]" in the very middle, when this could go at the end. Does this help any? Ottava Rima (talk) 12:49, 30 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I have re-written the lede, again. Would you re-read it? Thanks. -- Rmrfstar (talk) 15:53, 30 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I think I have addressed all of your objections, no? -- Rmrfstar (talk) 16:20, 30 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I will have to look again. I've been busy with a few other pages. :) By the way - the objections you should worry about most are "duplicate" objections, i.e. those held by multiple people. Those are the ones that definitely prevent a page from making FA. 16:29, 30 July 2008 (UTC)

Your article had a few too many redlinks. I corrected many of them to link to the appropriate pages. Ottava Rima (talk) 17:07, 8 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Haha, it was hard. I just went through Swiss history articles for an hour to track down the "real" term. Of course Wikipedia lacked appropriate English translations. :) Ottava Rima (talk) 00:06, 9 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I didn't want it to seem as if I wasn't in support. I just had a lot of catching up to do as of late, and there were some major disputes in Wikipedia between people I know, so I got distracted. I'm going to talk to some others and find out what is up. Ottava Rima (talk) 17:14, 13 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've moved to support with a clause to suggest that if anything major appears, then I would oppose. I do not believe that such will happen. There appear to be no opposes at this time. Ottava Rima (talk) 01:42, 14 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed non-free use rationale for Image:Sylmurbel.jpg

[edit]

Thank you for uploading Image:Sylmurbel.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Kevin (talk) 23:00, 31 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for the template - but I can't type very fast. Kevin (talk) 23:01, 31 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
What this image adds to Sylvia (ballet) is an illustration of the style of a specific performance: it showcases not only choreography, but also costumes and the dancers themselves. With these examples of the costumes, for instance, the reader may immediately comprehend how the temporal setting of the ballet may be interpreted, as he could not by reading only the phrase "nondescript mythical setting". -- Rmrfstar (talk) 23:13, 31 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A request for copyediting

[edit]

Hello. I see you were a member of the League of Copyeditors... An article I nominated at WP:FAC, Candide, is receiving some criticism for its prose, and I'm looking for a thorough copyediting... Would you mind looking at Candide? Thanks! -- Rmrfstar (talk) 08:10, 5 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there! I'm afraid I can't help in great detail because a lot of my time is taken up helping with WPP:COPY. Have you tried getting help at WP:PR? -Samuel Tan 09:57, 5 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunately, I don't have time for WP:PR, which is very slow these days... I nominated Candide and waited two weeks without any responses; then I removed it to go to FAC. I'm not being impatient; but I re-start school in a few weeks and soon won't have the time to edit Wikipedia very actively. -- Rmrfstar (talk) 15:03, 5 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Copy edited a portion of the article, and left some comments regarding portions that were unclear on its talk page here. Cheers! -Samuel Tan 05:23, 6 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

By the way, I think this is an excellent article. Did you write most of it yourself? I will help with the remainder of the copy editing if i have the time.-Samuel Tan 05:25, 6 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks: I did write most of it myself. And thank you for the edits and suggestions. -- Rmrfstar (talk) 12:42, 6 August 2008 (UTC
Solid job copyediting! You know, the reward for doing a good job on Wikipedia is another job... Seriously, if you get the chance, I'd really appreciate a look at the remaining portions. Thanks again... -- Rmrfstar (talk) 12:59, 6 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I found someone else to finish the job in time for the FAC. If you're too busy to work on Candide, don't worry about it. Thanks again! -- Rmrfstar (talk) 21:31, 7 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think the nominator got a bit over-enthusiastic over taking the article to FA so soon which might explain why my thorough peer review was strangely closed. User:AnnaFrance seems keen to make improvements to the article however. If the nominator does not contribute to the nomination in the next two days I would recommend closing it and expecting a following nomination by a more regular editor. User:DrNegative has only really become active in the last three weeks or so (see here), so may not be able to carry the burden of an FA nom at this stage. Thanks. Sillyfolkboy (talk) 19:11, 11 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. -- Rmrfstar (talk) 19:16, 11 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

GA Review on Frederick III

[edit]

Thanks for reviewing Frederick III, German Emperor. I have a few quick questions which I posted on the review page for the article that I was hoping you could help with. I'll keep working on improving the article, thanks again. --Banime (talk) 00:46, 29 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've responded. -- Rmrfstar (talk) 14:04, 29 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks again for the quick reply. I've been working on this article and I think I addressed all of your concerns. When you have time, could you look over it again and see? Also, I explained more about his liberalism and why it gets the mentions it does on the review page. If you have more concerns please tell me. --Banime (talk) 20:52, 29 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your review! I'll make sure to complete those final suggestions of yours. Good luck with future edits. --Banime (talk) 09:33, 6 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Man, I rule

[edit]

Take a look at the history for Pierre-François Chabaneau. You'll notice I've only made one edit - creating the page. I believe I may be the first person to successfully bring an article through both DYK and GA with one edit while maintaining a relationship with a real human, albeit a very small one. Arguably more difficult than my previous challenge. Think you can possibly match my feat? --Cryptic C62 · Talk 20:39, 26 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:VishniacAlgal.gif. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

This is an automated notice by FairuseBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. --FairuseBot (talk) 07:57, 4 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I saw that you were the original author of the Henry Marrow article and was hoping you could answer a few questions. It appears that the entire article was based on a single source, the book Blood Done Sign My Name; in fact I noticed that the other two references added later were simply links to book reviews. My concern is that right now, the section of the article on the murder reads like a factual account of the crime. It uses some unclear phrasing like "some say" and also makes a number of statements about what people were thinking - great stuff for a book, not so good for an encyclopedia. Since some of the people named in this section are still living, it appears to run afoul of the WP:BLP policy and I've removed it for the time being. If there are additional sources that would corroborate the account given in the book, I'm sure the material could be put back, especially if it was written in more of an encyclopedic tone. Shell babelfish 03:32, 6 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I fail to see why the section should be deleted. You say the section reads like a "factual account of the crime"; that's exactly what it's supposed to be, and the non-fiction work Blood Done Sign My Name is a legitimate source for such information. I'm OK with removing "some say", etc., but strongly think that the rest should stay. What specific part of WP:BLP does it "run afoul of"? -- Rmrfstar (talk) 19:38, 15 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Part of the problem is that fact that the section was written as if it came right out of the book. For instance, it said things about what the victim thought or what the alleged attackers were thinking - since we can't honestly know those things, we're getting out of the realm of the factual into the realm of good story telling. I'm sure that's fine for the book, but that's not the tone expected in an encyclopedia.
The other major problem is that we're concretely stating that those gentlemen committed a crime, even though they were acquitted. Regardless of whether or not that's true, we need more than a single source, which has obviously taken some artistic license, in order to make that sort of claim. I've also found that news sources from the time of the crime don't quite back up what is being said in the book, which has me a bit concerned. A friend in the area is trying to get copies of the actual news paper articles and send those up to me. Shell babelfish 09:32, 16 November 2008 (UTC)
  • Apparently you didn't check back to see that I had responded to your query. Please do not replace the information unless you can provide more than just the book as a source. You may wish to re-read the policy on biographical information if you have further questions about the level of sourcing needed for controversial claims. Sylvia

[edit]

Some time ago you contatced me about adding a section to the Sylvia (ballet) article concerning the 1900 revival of the ballet at the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg (staged by lev Ivanov and Pavel Gerdt.

Over time I completly forgot about it, but I'd like to go ahead and write it. I'm not all that great at citations, so perhaps you can help with that, and with editing, proof-reading, etc.

Let me know!!

--Mrlopez2681 (talk) 18:11, 7 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

more for Sylvia

[edit]

I shall begin the Sylvia article addition today. My source will be "The Life and Ballets of Lev Ivanov" by Roland John Wiley (Clarendon Press, Oxford. 1997) and Mikhail Borisoglebsky's "Materials Relating to the History of the Russian Ballet Vol.2"(Leningrad State Choreographic School. 1938-1939). I will also offer a rather important image that really needs to be added, of the great ballerina Olga Preobrajenskaya in the title role. --Mrlopez2681 (talk) 16:05, 10 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

section added

[edit]

I added the section to the article, and I edited it a bit and fixed references. I dont know if you know this, but there is a photo I found on google of Sangalli as Sylvia - http://home.att.net/~mforder04/mark218.JPG - I dont think the perspon who uploaded it know this! --Mrlopez2681 (talk) 17:31, 14 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Conatus (novel)

[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Conatus (novel), suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

One sentence that does not demonstrate the importance or notability of a novel by an author that does not have an article in Wikipedia.

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. 147.70.242.54 (talk) 22:19, 11 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Your GA nomination of Diffusion damping

[edit]

The article Diffusion damping you nominated as a good article has been placed on hold . It hasn't failed because it's basically a good article, but there are some minor changes or clarifications needed to be addressed. If these are fixed within seven days, the article will pass, otherwise it will fail. See Talk:Diffusion damping for things needed to be addressed. Wronkiew (talk) 05:31, 24 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the review. I believe I have now addressed all of your objections. -- Rmrfstar (talk) 03:27, 1 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Message regarding your use of the No Multi License Template

[edit]

In case you are not aware, the Wikimedia Foundation has proposed that the copyright licensing terms on the wikis operated by the WMF – including Wikipedia – be changed to include the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike (CC-BY-SA) license in addition to the current GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL) as allowed by version 1.3 of the GFDL. The community has approved this change with 75.8% in favor, and on June 15, 2009, the change will take effect.
You currently have {{NoMultiLicense}} on your user or user talk page, which states that your edits are licensed under the GFDL only. On or before June 15, this template will be changed to reflect Wikipedia's new licensing terms. If you accept the licensing change, you do not need to do anything (and feel free to remove this message); if you do not accept it, we regret that you will no longer be able to contribute to the encyclopedia. Please join the discussion at Wikipedia:Village pump (policy)#NoMultiLicense template if you have any comments.

REGISTER The proper place to register your team is here. It's also perfectly possible to register on the day of when you get there, but it will be slightly easier for us if you register beforehand.
