Adoption
[edit]Hey. You still looking to be adopted? Because if you are, I'll adopt you and help show you the ropes. Prepare to be Mezmerized! :D 18:13, 21 October 2007 (UTC)
"Yes, i would be glad for you to show me the ropes here on wiki, I currently have basic knowledge on here and trying to make a half what acceptable user page and contributing to info boxes and updating them (as I find the systems of code interesting)"
All righty, then, heres my advice on the infoboxes.
1. Try not to use redlinks. Often times, redlinks are not really useful and will probably be deleted (especially for the genre of the band). (Hint: you can bold a word by adding three of these ( ' ) before and after a word. You can italisize a word by adding two of those. You can do both to a word by adding five of those before and after a word)
2. If something is sourced[1], DO NOT GET RID OF IT!!! That is vandalizing, and if you vandalize enough, you'll get blocked or even banned.
Don't worry too much about the userpage, a lot of people have even worse userpages. But you create user subpages by adding a /whatever to your page name (for example: you would create a subpage by making a page called User:Zacx8/Whatever you want to call it, and from there, you would add stuff to it.
All right, if you have any questions, I'll be there to answer them. Prepare to be Mezmerized! :D 21:22, 23 October 2007 (UTC)
Disputed fair use rationale for Image:CoastNZLogo.gif
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:CoastNZLogo.gif. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 07:38, 27 October 2007 (UTC)
Request to participate in University of Washington survey on tool to quickly understand Wikipedians’ reputations
[edit]Hello. I'm part of a research group at the University of Washington. In April, we met with some local Wikipedians to learn what they would like to know about other editors’ history and activities (within Wikipedia) when interacting with them on talk pages. The goal of those sessions was to gather feedback to help design an embedded application that could quickly communicate useful information about other Wikipedians. We have now created a few images that we feel represent some of what our participants thought was important. We would appreciate it if you took a few minutes of your time to complete an online survey that investigates whether or not these images would be useful to you. Your quick contribution would be very valuable to our research group and ultimately to Wikipedia. (When finished, the code for this application will be given over to the Wikipedia community to use and/or adjust as they see fit.)
Willing to spend a few minutes taking our survey? Click this link.
Please feel free to share the link with other Wikipedians. The more feedback, the better! The survey is completely anonymous and takes less than 10 minutes to complete. All data is used for university research purposes only.
Thank you for your time! If you have any questions about our research or research group, please visit our user page. Commprac01 (talk) 01:06, 10 June 2009 (UTC)

New Challenge for Oceania and Australia
[edit]Hi, Wikipedia:WikiProject Oceania/The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Australia/The 5000 Challenge are up and running based on Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge which has currently produced over 2300 article improvements and creations. The Australia challenge would feed into the wider region one and potentially New Zealand could have a smaller challenge too. The main goal is content improvement, tackling stale old stubs and important content and improving sourcing/making more consistent but new articles are also welcome if sourced. I understand that this is a big goal for regular editors, especially being summertime where you are, but if you'd like to see large scale quality improvements happening for Oceania and Australia like The Africa Destubathon, which has produced over 1700 articles in 5 weeks, sign up on the page. The idea will be an ongoing national editathon/challenge for the region but fuelled by a series of contests to really get articles on every province and subject mass improved. The Africa contest scaled worldwide would naturally provide great benefits to Oceania countries, particularly Australia and attract new editors. I would like some support from existing editors here to get the Challenges off to a start with some articles to make doing a Destubathon worthwhile and potentially bring about hundreds of improvements in a few weeks through a contest! Cheers.♦ --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 02:12, 24 November 2016 (UTC)

Invitation to an in-person meetup in Mohua / Golden Bay
[edit]Thinking about your summer break? Think about joining other Wikipedians and Wikimedians in Golden Bay / Mohua! Details are on the meetup page. There's heaps of interesting stuff to work on e.g. the oldest extant waka or New Zealand's oldest ongoing legal case. Or you may spend your time taking photos and then upload them.
Golden Bay is hard to get to and the airline flying into Tākaka uses small planes, so we are holding some seats from and to Wellington and we are offering attendees a $200 travel subsidy to help with costs.
Be in touch with Schwede66 if this event interests you and you'd like to discuss logistics. Schwede66 09:14, 13 November 2023 (UTC)
