Just letting you know that I reverted the map you made for a class because we don't do original research here. WP:OR describes this pretty well. There's a sort of blurry line because we do some slight synthesis of sources by simply writing the Wikipedia article and summarizing what an individual source says. However, the degree to which you summarized multiple sources into a map goes a bit beyond what we can do as editors here, although it is perfectly fine in academia in research. It's a little counterintuitive coming from academia and not being able to do this as I was in the same boat once. If another reliable source were to summarize the sources like you did though, we could use that.

I've actually helped out with GIS courses in the past and am an entomologist, so I do have a few friendly pointers for you just in case you haven't turned this in quite yet. Your number of commercial colonies legend is a little confusing at first as it's not clear you're describing years right away (the years seem a little hidden). Try increasing the font size on the two years to be larger than the other numbers in the legend, and probably increase the font of the other numbers a bit too. Also, your possible causes of CDD text box has a few little formatting issues. Arthropod common names are not capitalized except for the first word at the beginning of a sentence (unless the name also has proper nouns), so it should be varroa mites instead. Malnutrition is spelled incorrectly and the last line should be "A combination" rather than "A Combination". Also, your "percentages refer . . . " text box would be more accurate by saying colones lost from 2007-2008 like you do in your title. Saying between two years, especially in this context, can imply you're only talking about a period of a year (e.g., Oct. 1, 2007 to Oct 1, 2008) rather than both entire years since strictly overwintering losses are sometimes described in this topic. Those are all little things, but they should help clean up the map quite a bit. Hope the class went well. Kingofaces43 (talk) 02:09, 19 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
