I think you have a great start here, but I would definitely look into adding more citations, especially for claims you make in the first paragraph. Second paragraph looks about the same, but I think it's great so far! Abirch123 (talk) 02:02, 5 October 2020 (UTC)
Bria and Mikayla, While I'd echo Alex's note about the importance of citing everything (and hopefully our recent readings can provide some additional work there) I think that you've also hit upon the best way to make a real contribution to this article which is to stress the construction of gender and the utility of archaeologists thinking beyond the binary (and considering that past cultures may well have done so). The current article makes some nods that way, especially in the 'Cross-cultural Studies' section, but it strikes me that you'd do everyone a real service if you could bring the 'History' section up closer to the present and include some of this discussion. Also, while I agree that the 'Criticism' section is pretty bad here, and could use some work, I don't know that it's the place for what you've written. Perhaps some of the discussion in Wylie of the pushback experienced by feminist archaeology (of which Bahn's quote is but one example) might be a way to go with that one. Hope all that helps! [edit]On the criticism section:
I think you have a quality idea of the issues a androcentric tone in archaeology can cause! I would add a case example of where male archaeologists have projected present day ideas of gender onto ancient societies. The current article touches briefly on inner disciplinary criticism of gender archaeology. I think this would be worth exploring deeper since the correction of gender biases will most likely come from change in methodology by current and future archaeologist. You might also want to observe how assuming western notions of gender roles in past societies manifests in present day constructs and institutions. Both of your sources are great! I think the use of a journal and an article from an anthropology magazine has allowed for a balanced, informed contribution.(Jassphill (talk) 22:59, 25 October 2020 (UTC))
