Patrick Dixon

While established articles with references may rarely qualify for speedy deletion, that does not mean that an established article with references cannot qualify for speedy deletion.

The Patrick Dixon article is autobiographical and fails to establish notability of the subject/author. Two of the four references are to establish that the subject was ranked in a web survey. The other two are websites for organizations created by the subject. Much of the article is unsourced and presumably original research as it is the subject writing about himself. Additionally, the self promotion / advertising of the article is blatant, at least from my perspective.

I appreciate your feedback, however identifying the article as being of a class which typically fails to meet speedy deletion criteria does not inform me of if or why this article fails to meet said criteria.

Category:Archaeological Sites in Israel

I see we have categories with the same name distinduished only by a lower or upper case S in sites. Whilst your category is a more comprehensive list of Wiki pages, the one I'd created gave a reasoned historical background as to why in fact there is such a plethora of Archaeological Sites in Israel. As someone who studies all Israeli Historical sites professionally, I'd suggest somehow combining the information, as your category heading only shows an alternative for 'Archaeology in Israel', which relates more to the science, not the explanation of the existence of so many sites. C&A Industries

Please tell me why this page was deleted. C&A is one of the largest companies in Omaha, NE and employs thousands of people all over the country. It is a huge part of the development of Omaha and should be included under the listing of Omaha companies. There was nothing in that article but pure facts. Please show me what needs to be removed.

Point 1

Ynhockey, If you don't like point one of my coaching philosophy, then you obviously do not understand it as I do because without it, all else is irrelevant. It is the absolute most important piece to being an admin, because somebody who understands it is an admin already. You see, being an admin, IMHO, is not about passing an RfA, but rather about having the right attitude. If you have the right attitude, then nothing else matters. If you have the wrong attitude, it doesn't matter if you write a hundred FA articles, participate at ANI, made a million vandal blocks, and contribute at every aspect of the project. Attitude is everything. If you have the right attitude about the project, then it doesn't matter if you write a zero FA's or ever participated at XfD or ever visited XfD---a person with the right attitude is the FIRST thing I look for at RfA. What does it mean to act like an admin? Simple, if you act like an admin, then you are acting like a decent human being. Take a look at my essay. Yes, I wrote it tonight, but it is what *I* mean about "acting like an admin." As for point 3, I doubt if we will ever agree there. You apparently believe one size fits all. That everybody should be exclusively an article builder and everything that detracts from that is to be frowned upon. Rabat

About the disambiguation page for Rabat, "Rabat-Les-Trois-Seigneurs" is only an official name given by the french post administration in 1936 to avoid confusion with "Rabat" in Marocco. But the true name of the village wich is use locally and on all the historical and cultural documents referred in the article ( and also in Courbière valley) is "Rabat". Documents attest that Rabat was called "Ribat" (meaning a castle in arab) and then "Ravat" more than four century before "Ribat" (that becomes also Rabat) in Marocco. So I think that it is important for readers to know the true name of the village, even if the article title is the version given by french post administration (that is not used locally). If an anteriority rule have been apply by the administration, our village may still be called "Rabat" and Rabat in marocco change it's name as for instance "Rabat upon Bou-Regreg"... But diplomacy and size prevales on history. Rabat is important in french history because it is linked to the "Foix-Rabat" family that had the privilege to sit at the right of the french king since Henri IV that was the last count of Foix

Regarding this comment at the DYK page, I would appreciate it if you could strike out, remove, or at least soften your first two comments (about Gatoclass's actions being unilateral and Gatoclass's personally attacking you). I am not familiar yet with the details of the discussion regarding the Battle of Nitzanim and the quotes, so I'm not able to judge on the substance of that yet; I'm just bringing this up because for the past week or so there has been a particularly vicious fight going on at WT:DYK, with one particular user attacking many DYK contributors, so right now we are all a little bit on edge and a bit weary of all the fighting...so trying to be as civil as possible on the DYK suggestions page should help the process along. Your comments about Gatoclass's involvement in I–P articles are more constructive (although I'm not sure if I agree that his involvement is a problem), so those don't need to be changed; it's mainly the first little bit that I'm worried could cause some tensions.

If I have a moment, I'll try to look into this discussion a little more and see if there's anything I can contribute.

if it is not an adjective and is a noun why should the inaccurate term Arab be used to describe Arab Israeli citizens. It is called systemic racism. Arab citizen of Israel is a noun correct. I see quite a lot wrong on many articles...I can only do so much on my own to combat systemic racism...there are many racists that change Palestinian to Arab where the reference is to Palestinians and there are many racists that change Arab citizens of Israel to Arab even though the reference is to Arab citizens of Israel...As the original sentence was written to avoid the double triple usage I can only assume that the person that changed the sentence was on Political POV manoeuvre...maybe you'd like to have the person that stuck Arab all over it without any Arab citizen of Israel reference...Ashley kennedy3 (talk) 14:17, 20 December 2008 (UTC)

Battle of Nitzanim

Hi Ynhockey,

I was trying to reduce the backlog of unassessed Military History articles when I came across your Battle of Nitzanim. I can categorically state that of several dozen articles, I found it the most interesting. Indeed, I went to nominate it for DYK but found that you had already done so.

My field of expertise doesn't extend much beyond English speaking countries (not a problem for merely categorising articles) and I knew little about the war of 1948. In particular, I'd never heard of that Battle of Nitzanium. The article gave me quite an insight into Israeli history, and also into the problems of writing history on Israeli-related subjects. I thinbk that you have donme a superb job, and I hope that the article makes the front page. It deserves to.

Bank Leumi

Several points.

I noticed the comment about the adherence to the biblical prohibition (Heter Iska) in the charging of interest. I felt the addition of the shmitta year comment (sourced) was fair to balance this point. I would for arguements sake agree that both statements (interest and debt) should be removed.

In regards to the debt collection practices these are common knowledge in Israel. I entered outside academic sources to substantiate the statements. The examples and practices employed are legal in Israel and standard proceedure for debt collection for cases adjudged in Hotzaat Hapoel (Magistartes Court.

The comments entered are neither political nor anti-Israel in nature but true statements concerning business practices with a publically traded multi-national company. These practices are apparently employed equally to all who fall under the juridiction of the Israeli Magistrates Courts. Not only are the statements true but information substantiating this was documented from 3rd party academic sources.

Actually that book you mentioned has some 20 pages of research into Israeli case law that you can read by clicking on the url. Also the other referenced article was indeed published by Tel Aviv University Law School again you can read by following that url as well.

You were fair to request the documentation and it was provided. I can very easily provide additional documentation to confirm the methodologies of Hotzaat Hapoel (Magistartes Court) and that Bank Leumi does indeed legally use these tactics in their debt collection proceedures.

If I have missed something I welcome being pointed to correcting those mistakes

Y......I went back to double and triple check the notations. the first one (#3) is the reference to the statement about debtors prison from a source book written specifically on the topis of bankruptcy and what that means in different countries. When I refer to Bank Leumis collection practices I reference (#5) a source published by the Tel Aviv Univ law school from a paper written specifically addressing debt and collections practices of creditors in Israel. If you feel I still need more documentation I would be happy to provide......thanks

I was hoping to hear from you on exactly what you feel is needed to substantiate my changes. I also do not agree with the unreferenced statement that Bank Leumi follows the laws of Heter Iska. You took issue with my entry that shitta laws were not observed in regards to relief from loans. I see not reference to prove this point.

Regional commands of Israel

You'll see by looking at Category:Divisions by country for example that each country has a category for its formations of that size, so that one can easily compare and access all military formations of that size. The military of Israel has such a category, Category:Divisions of Israel, but nothing for the next size up. Creation of the new category allows it to be added to Category:Military district and regions by country, which lists the formations of that size that wikipedia has articles for. I'm aware of the provisional corps formed during each war, as well as the fact that there were (are?) nucleus corps HQs within the regional commands. When we get articles for them, we can create a category in Category:Corps by country for Israel. The number of articles in the category is not at issue here - it's the fact that this allows them to be sorted by their formation size. The only reason that 'only very large countries' have these categories are that only a few articles have been written for these size of units. For example, Uruguay, or Switzerland (and Switzerland had about three military districts), if/when we get articles for its military commands, will have the same thing. I would argue that the only reason Hebrew wikipedia doesn't have categories for formations above division is that it's structure isn't as big as En:wiki. I agree. But we have to be a little careful about something that would fit into Category:Commands as opposed to things that are purely staff directorates. The whole category structure is arranged so that we have a distinction between operational commands and staff directorates. Category:Regional commands of Israel would be a subcat of that, considering that Israeli Iran Command (can you tell me more about that one, by the way?) etc doesn't have regional responsibilities. Right. We disagree completely on this one then. If you wish, you can start a deletion discussion, and we can go from there. On corps, the Category:Corps by country is almost exclusively 'Field corps,' fighting formations, so I may fiddle with the cat. Re:FLs

Yeah, I've been working on FLs ever since I started on episode lists, so I guess I gradually became more and more involved in the process. As for List of Bleach characters, I've actually not been heavily involved in the process there, and Tintor2 has been the primary contributor (he's nominated List of Bleach chapters for FL also). He's using my model at List of Naruto characters for the characters list (he helped in making that list too), and it's looking pretty good. Some more information probably still needs to be fleshed out for that list throughout the prose (every character with an article needs a section for instance, the ordering of the "Other characters" section is weird) and after all that, a full copy-edit is necessary. I'll probably start a discussion outlining the remaining issues, but he's done a tremendous job in improving the list. Past that, I'm very close to a FT with the Bleach episode lists (see here). Right now, I think a lot of the character articles could benefit from any conception/reception information that's available, and that's a major hurdle for them going to GA. Also note that if you turn up any reception for characters we currently don't have articles on, you can argue for their inclusion as well, as reception is far more prevelant nowadays than it was say a year and a half ago. Naval OrBat

Ah, you never bother me :-) you can't find any OrBat about a navy, because I haven't done any. APP-6a symbols are very well defined and logical for Land units, already for air units it gets much less elaborate and for navies the symbols are just simple letters (i.e. BB in a square is a battleship) or some really strange combinations, that are not logical. Therefore I used the basic navy unit symbol for all kind of naval units:

Hi Ynhockey, good to see that your work is going forward :-) I think the graphic is great and have just two suggestions: I would change the second and third columns; so that Haifa base is in the middle of the graphic. My reason is that in this version it becomes clearer that Ashdod, Eilat and Atlit are bases in their own right, as there is no black line above them. My second suggestion is to make the Navy square bigger than the others to emphasize that it is a higher command. espares

Hi,

I note in the history for espares you've undone a speedy deletion - and quite rightly according to the grounds it was submitted on. I don't think the article is an advert either. I would however challenge the eligibility of the article on grounds of notability however. Do you think it relevent as an encyclopedic article? The only evidence I can find for them being featured on the BBC as they claim is a brief mention on the working lunch website from a viewer saying they'd bought parts from espares. While I don't doubt the veracity of their claim (all right, maybe I do a bit but it's very cheeky if they're not telling the truth) I think it stretches the limits of the 'notability' clause. The page is also linked by no other article on Wikipedia.

If that's the case, than what tag or method should I use with an article like that so as to get an admin to delete the listing?

Regarding this edit.[3] I didn't remove the information "indiscriminately", it as not in the source contained. And also assuming that Herzl Gedj (Director of the Israeli Population Administration Department) is alive, making unverifiable allegations against him is a violation of WP:BLP.

Russian Wikipedia

Hi, I noticed what you said about the Russian Wikipedia. I am bilingual in English and Spanish, and the Spanish Wikipedia certainly isn't of nearly as high quality as the English Wikipedia. However, this is more motivation for me to edit it often - I want to help improve it. Yes, the state of the Russian Wikipedia may not be great, but it seems a bit counterintuitive to say that you'd rather wait for it to improve before you start to edit there frequently... obviously, there is a lot of work to be done, but the point of a Wiki is that everybody helps each other to make content better. A book that may interest you

Hi Ynhockey,
I think this book may interest you : "independance versus Naqba". It has been written by Yoav Gelber but it Hebrew and was never translated. ISBN: 965-517-190-6. I never read this (I don't read Hebrew) but according to Gelber, it is one of his best books. It costs "only" 98 shekels for 656 pages.
If you have the opportunity to read this in a library, your feed-back to me would be welcome !

While the article that you apparently deleted is about me, a real person, it is wrong to assert that I have no notability in the fields of self-replicating machines and machine ontogeny. Indeed, I am a reasonably well published author who is clearly recognised in the field of Artificial Life (for instance, I am the organiser of several workshops at academic conferences - ALife X, ECAL 2008, and GECCO 2009). It is my intent to establish a Wikipedia article that addresses my scholarly work. This is not a conflict of interest, as the only material placed in the article is fact. William R. I will then seek to negotiate with you the points of notability; verification seems less the concern, given my publications, etc.:

ASCII Magazine ca. 1987-1990 this magazine serves as an equivalent to BYTE Magazine - I wrote the column Hobnobbing with the Hyper Hacker.

Wrote a paper contained in the book edited by Clifford Pickover - Visions of the Future - about the goals of the field of artificial life.

Organised the workshop Machine Self-Replication held in conjunction with ALife X - I was the chief organiser.

Was the second director of the International Core War Society, from 1987 to 1992 - this information is contained in the Wikipedia article [Core War].

I am also mentioned in the articles Self-Replicating Machine, and von Neumann Universal Constructor (IIRC).

Was an invited speaker to ALife I (more properly known as the First Workshop on Artificial Life).

Given that I am referenced in other Wikipedia articles, as both a relevant subject of article text, and in the form of many supporting references, it would seem reasonable to me that a biographical article exist. Such an article will not be so stunning as that dedicated to, for instance, von Neumann but, I have made important contributions to automata theory, and particularly machine self-replication (see the paper Computational Ontogeny, within the MIT Press journal Biological Theory, volume 3, issue 1), showing how machines may mimic the behavior of physical development. Further, one of my past lives was as a freelance opinion column writer for the Daily Titan, the newspaper of CalState Fullerton, and several of those articles garnered national attention, including one which brought attention of newspapers, television, radio, and the then California State Governor, Pete Wilson - see:

I have another note of distinction for myself. How about the fact that I was interviewed by former Police Chief Darryl Gates of the Los Angeles Police Department, when he had a radio show on (IIRC) KFI 640AM. In this case, I was his only guest, and he spoke about my work for at least 30min on air, during a telephone interview. I spoke on-air with audience members who called in. I am not racist

Ynhockey, I was not making personal attacks or being racist on the talk page for List of national capitals by population. A lot of Jews are very nice people, and the fact that you're Jewish is no reason to assume that you are bad. But the truth is, a lot of Jewish people like to think of Jerusalem as Israel's capital because the area of land that Jerusalem is in should, in their opinion, belong to a Jewish state. But I think Jerusalem should belong to Palestine as that's the best solution to keep the peace between the Jews and the Muslims/Arabs. I understand that Wikipedia is not a site for opinionated discussion and maybe I shouldn't have added that last bit on, but I'm not racist. Image size

Hi Ynhockey, hmm,... I tried to reduce the size myself now, but got it only to 4,0MB. I think there are 3 reasons for the bigger size of your version: a) yours has 20 more dpi (mine 75dpi, yours 96); b) mine has much more white space -> less data c) I think when you saved yours you choose the option "Interlaced" - I always choose the option "without" and thus get smaller file sizes... but I think with all the data/details in the graphic it will be hard to reduce the file size significantly. --noclador (talk) 00:16, 16 February 2009 (UTC)

sorry about the late reply - I'm a bit swamped with work these days... as for the image size: my version is 4,508×2,768 pixel or 12,478,144 pixel - so luckily I was able to stay under the 12,5 Megapixel limit (although I think you can have the limit removed; i.e. see commons:File:Mont-Tremblant Quebec Canada.jpg which is 24 Megapixel). As for the graphic: it is great - a ton of information :-) (only on thing: under abbreviations you wrote aifcraft) everything else: good work (and a lot of work too ;-); --noclador (talk) 21:52, 19 February 2009 (UTC)
