Hi Yintan. Calling a country by its correct name would appear to be a constructive change to me. As she lived more than half her life in 'Zimbabwe' as compared to the pre-independence 'Rhodesia', it would be more appropriate to present the current country name first. Additionally, the classification in the Infobox is a confusing mix of pre-independence ('Salisbury') and post-independence ('Zimbabwe') naming, which is both inconsistent and inaccurate. I would ask that you consider re-instating my changes. Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by BryonyBrind (talkcontribs) 15:35, 30 September 2016 (UTC)

@BryonyBrind: Hi. I see your point but when Hawkins was born the country was called Rhodesia. It is usual to use the names that were common at the time of the event you're referring to. Walter Ulbricht for example, former East German minister, was born in the Kingdom of Saxony. That's 'Germany' now but the Ulbricht infobox says 'Kingdom of Saxony' because that's what the area was called at the time. However, I agree with you that a mix of of pre-independence and post-independence names should be avoided, so when talking about Hawkins' birth place it should all be pre-independence IMHO. Waffen SS Muslim

Hello, i just translate the french wikipedia, i saw that many things are not include in the English wikipedia The sources are here : https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/13e_division_de_montagne_de_la_Waffen_SS_Handschar#Entra.C3.AEnements_et_constitution_finale_de_l.27unit.C3.A9

So let me edit the english wikipedia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 176.190.253.53 (talk) 19:48, 30 September 2016 (UTC)

@176.190.253.53: Hi. Then please add the citations and sources that were used on the French wikipedia to your text too. See also WP:SOURCE. Thanks, Yintan  19:51, 30 September 2016 (UTC)

@14.203.227.221: Hi. You can add whatever you like but if it doesn't meet Wikipedia guidelines/standards it'll eventually be removed again. In this case I suggest you check out WP:EL and WP:NOTABLE first. Kind regards, Yintan  20:07, 30 September 2016 (UTC)

@176.190.253.53: Sorry, I'm not going to do your work for you. If you want to translate it, go ahead. But, again, don't forget to add the citations too. And don't talk nonsense about me denying the truth, please. Yintan  20:07, 30 September 2016 (UTC)

What does it take to call a vandal a vandal?

... and block him for good? I mean 74.92.248.9 (see his 2 vandalism acts on The Exodus). It's ridiculous to allow such idiots (no apology for the word) to spoil other serious editors' work, and treat them with kid gloves. Cheers & thanks, Arminden (talk) 07:22, 12 October 2016 (UTC)

@Arminden: Accounts that are clearly 'vandalism-only' usually get blocked forever, like this one[1] for example, but IP numbers seldom (or never) are because they are dynamic and used by several people. I agree with you that Wikipedia should be a lot tougher on vandals, and I think the required '4-warnings-before-a-block', like here[2], is at least one warning too many, but well, that's the way it goes here. It can be frustrating, yes, but on the other hand it's quite simple to undo vandalism so the damage never lasts long. Yintan  07:48, 12 October 2016 (UTC)

I understand. Thank you.Arminden (talk) 07:53, 12 October 2016 (UTC)

Sock

User:Riisen is blocked as a sock of Padmalakshmisx. And there is also User:Kamalikachanda. This sockmaster always makes gross personal attacks. Marchjuly You are not the only one who faced personal attack from them. Ask @Kailash29792 and Vensatry:.

I know. His attacks don't bother me. He wasn't the first, he won't be the last. Yintan  07:37, 13 October 2016 (UTC)

Congratulations! ツ

Dear Yintan;
I noticed that you recently achieved 60,000 edits and I wanted to celebrate this milestone with a fitting award, as an acknowledgement of all you've done here. However, since there isn't a barnstar for such events, I selected the Disco Ball of Knowledge which fits perfectly because, according to its creator HighwayCello, it ...
"certifies that editors are among the finest contributors in the world of Wikipedia, and help it to never stop turning."

And since you don't seem to share my childlike fondness for userboxes (), I have prepared one that you might consider adding at your user page, perhaps next to the existing one about your tenure:

60,000+

Congratulations and thank you once more for all your contributions to our encyclopedia!
Patrick. ツ Pdebee.(talk)(guestbook) 10:10, 14 October 2016 (UTC)

@Pdebee: Thank you very, VERY much. We should have a drink sometime. Yintan  10:56, 14 October 2016 (UTC)
You're most welcome, Yintan, as it's richly deserved. You were the first editor who helped my newbie early steps and I remain very grateful to you for inducting me in the right way of doing things around here. If I should ever attend one of the Wikipedia jamborees held in the UK, I'll let you know and maybe we could meet then. No promises, though, as real life is somewhat hectic, with lots to do and deadlines to meet—and I'm supposed to be retired and taking it easy...
With kind regards for now;
Patrick. ツ Pdebee.(talk)(guestbook) 13:39, 14 October 2016 (UTC)
P.S. Your userboxes look good! Is this the dawn of your very own 'Usorcapsarium', I ask myself?!
@Pdebee:Nice to see you're still such an enthusiast contributor! And thanks again. As far as the Usorcapsarium goes, nah, I don't think so. Yintan  15:50, 14 October 2016 (UTC)
Thanks for your reply. Yes, I am still finding it meaningful to help build an encyclopedia, and not just because of Hari Seldon in Asimov's Foundation saga! There's always something to do and it seems like an endless task, coupled with an opportunity to learn about so many different topics while carrying out gnomish tasks!
I had already concluded that you're not bothered about such frivolities as userboxes, which is why I am amazed there are now two of them on your user page!
Keep well, Yintan, and very best wishes; it's great to have you back in action!
Patrick. ツ Pdebee.(talk)(guestbook) 09:38, 15 October 2016 (UTC)
P.S.: I forgot to mention that the "51%" was meant to represent the total of "everything else" after the "49%" of the edits you applied to articles; maybe I should change my own copy of the userbox to say "all other types of Wiki page".  Done

Thanks for your kind words. Although I voted delete on the AfD I am happy with the situation now. If it's true that the artist known as John Campbell is a sensitive, troubled person at least he/she knows that some people care. On the other hand if it's all a big publicity stunt then no harm has been done. Thoughtmonkey (talk) 10:33, 15 October 2016 (UTC)

@Thoughtmonkey: It wouldn't be the first time Campbell tried to mess with Wikipedia, and in case you don't know the name 'Elmyr de Hory', supposedly Campbell's account, check out F for Fake. Stuff like that doesn't help me to assume good faith. Yintan  11:13, 15 October 2016 (UTC)

Thanks

Re: Yorkville Sound. Like the heading says.96.127.247.5 (talk) 21:34, 15 October 2016 (UTC)

My pleasure. For now I've done some copy editing, removing obvious AdSpeak and irrelevant trivia. Get the text into a better, more encyclopedic, shape. Source checking is next on the list. Tomorrow, perhaps. Yintan  21:38, 15 October 2016 (UTC)

Woops

My apologies. It wont happen again. Roland1904 (talk) 22:12, 16 October 2016 (UTC)

Cleanup note

I undid User:Mahgabal's move/renaming of your User talk:Yintan/Archives/2016/October page. Not sure what that user's situation is, but it seemed like an odd action, without prior discussion with you. DMacks (talk) 13:49, 17 October 2016 (UTC)

@DMacks: Thanks for that, I hadn't noticed that move. Vandalism. I'll keep an eye on him/her. Yintan  15:03, 17 October 2016 (UTC)

I am a vandal?

Hi. Can you please explain why you described my edits as vandalism? In what universe is Marie Antoinette defined as an Austrian archduchess rather than as a French queen? Surtsicna (talk) 17:19, 17 October 2016 (UTC)

@Surtsicna: In what universe have I called you a vandal? I haven't. Until today I had never even heard of you. Ten days ago I reversed an edit that said
Maria Antoni Josepha Johanna (/ˈmæriˌæntwəˈnɛt/)
instead of
Marie Antoinette (/ˈmæriˌæntwəˈnɛt/)
This was done by new editor 'Pantherinthebush32' without an explanation or edit summary. To me it looked like either an editing test or vandalism. Whatever it was, it didn't make sense so I reverted the edit. Because I then found more discrepancies in the header (Louis XV instead of Louis XVI, Maria Theresa vs Marianne Theresa, 13 May instead of 10 May) I reverted back to the last historically correct header I could find. If you don't like the text of that restored header you are obviously free to change it. I don't care about it, I didn't write it.
Long story short: I've never called you a vandal and I've never called your edits vandalism. Chill. Yintan  21:10, 17 October 2016 (UTC)
You reverted every change I made to the lead paragraph and described your edit as reversion of vandalism. It takes much more to offend me, however. I just wanted to clarify things and see if you have a problem with describing Marie Antoinette as Queen of France. Cheers, Surtsicna (talk) 21:21, 17 October 2016 (UTC)
@Surtsicna: You can call Marie Antoinette whatever you like. I didn't describe my edit as 'reversion of vandalism', I described it as 'restoring a vandalized header'. Because that's what the header was. It's not about you or your two sentences of text. If you want to call Marie Antoinette a Queen first and a Duchess second, or the other way around, that's up to you. I don't care. Besides, if I thought you were vandalizing you would have found a message saying so on your Talk page. Regards, Yintan  22:05, 17 October 2016 (UTC)

Mireille Mathieu page redactions.

 The edits I made were taken directly from her published autobiography (impossible to cite page number since I read the autobiography online where such conveniences simply do not exist) or are verifiable by simply viewing the television program videos in question ("La Vendredi a Nouvelle Orleans" and "Jumbalaya")on YouTube where they are readily available.
I wish you had taken a little time and effort to verify the content I added before lackadaisically redacting it.
                                                                                  Mellotrondon@msn.com  — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.14.43.56 (talk) 07:20, 18 October 2016 (UTC)
Hi. I'm sorry, but that's not how it works. The writing editor has to provide reliable sources and link to them with inline citations. If you don't do that, the reader can't verify your text. Kind regards, Yintan  07:28, 18 October 2016 (UTC)

List of Six Sigma certification organizations

I've removed the International six sigma organisation again. It does seem to be blatant span when you click on the link. This organisation has been added to the list repeatedly without any independent support many times. It does not have it's own article which is the normal requirement for list articles. noq (talk) 22:52, 18 October 2016 (UTC)

Glorfindel

I am the one whose edit in the article Glorfindel you with admirable efficiency obliterated within 30 seconds. I am, if I may be so bold, a somewhat accomplished student of Tolkien's invented languages. My website on the subject, Ardalambion, has been online for almost 20 years, has enough material to fill several books and has itself been translated into a string of other languages than English. Tolkien himself took the trouble of writing an entire substantial appendix explaining how the names in his constructed languages should be pronounced and accented. This was IMPORTANT to him, and by extension, to me. I do not feel like a random vandal or obsessed geek in this case, though I do understand that this is a special interest field. What I inserted was perhaps only a bit of trivia, but not more so than the reference to the movie "The Martian" is a piece of trivia in the first place. Would you please reconsider a decision that clearly was not a result of very lengthy deliberation? Yours,
Helge K. Fauskanger, Norway
Webmaster of Ardalambion

@37.253.241.53: Hi. I reverted your edit for two reasons. One, it was, as you say, trivia. Not all that relevant. Two, it was unsourced trivia (check out WP:SOURCE for more on that). I am not doubting your knowledge, attitude, or accomplishments. That's besides the case. Cheers, Yintan  19:11, 23 October 2016 (UTC)
I will insert into the article an IPA transcript of the intended pronunciation. If it is "unsourced", so are similar transcripts in articles like Túrin Turambar, Galadriel and Sauron (the last of which is, incidentally, at least 40 % my work as it now stands). The basics on pronunciation are already covered on Wikipedia in the article Elvish languages (Middle-earth). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 37.253.241.53 (talk) 19:45, 23 October 2016 (UTC)
@37.253.241.53: I'm not going to start an edit war over this but don't be surprised if another editor removes it again. It's still unsourced trivia. Kind regards, Yintan  19:48, 23 October 2016 (UTC)

Wikifriends?

Dear Yintan,
I would feel honoured if you would permit me to add the following userbox on my user page:

This user is a WikiFriend with User:Yintan.

However, please don't hesitate to decline, and I will readily accept—and fully respect—your decision, with good grace.
Thank you.
With kind regards, as always;

Of course you can. How could I say no? Yintan  22:08, 23 October 2016 (UTC)
Thank you very much, Yintan! Well, I thought it would have been a bit presumptuous on my part to have gone ahead without first making sure that you were OK with being mentioned in such a userbox. Of course, I was confident you would agree, but it's better to know for sure.
Please keep well and enjoy your break away from the Wiki!
With kind regards;
Patrick. ツ Pdebee.(talk)(guestbook) 22:34, 23 October 2016 (UTC)

Request for advice.

Dear Yintan,
Please forgive me for intruding after you've indicated you're on a break. But if you see this and can advise without too much time and effort, I'd really appreciate it.
Yesterday, I came across a case where a wikilink had been removed from a list of performers, because only one name was linked. I then send this query to the editor who reverted, but he has not yet replied, even though he's evidently been active since I sent the request.
So, please may I ask you: is there a guideline that stipulates that, in a list, all or none of the entries can be linked, but not one or some? If so, thank you for pointing me to the right place in the WP:MOS, at your convenience. Such a guideline would clearly have profound implications for many articles on bands and recordings.
Thank you very much, Yintan.
With kind regards;
Patrick. ツ Pdebee.(talk)(guestbook) 20:09, 26 October 2016 (UTC)

@Pdebee: Hi Patrick. As far as I know "no one else is linked" is no MOS-based reason to revert. There are thousands of lists on WP with blue/red/non-linked entries in them. I don't believe there's an "all or nothing" rule. Yintan  21:14, 26 October 2016 (UTC)
That's interesting; very many thanks for your prompt and helpful reply, as always. Have a good break, when you're finally able to take it. Patrick. ツ Pdebee.(talk)(guestbook) 21:46, 26 October 2016 (UTC)
@Pdebee: For me, making only a handful of edits a day is a break. Yintan  22:36, 26 October 2016 (UTC)
Oh, I see! Well, have a good one nonetheless. Patrick. ツ Pdebee.(talk)(guestbook) 23:04, 26 October 2016 (UTC)
