Information icon Hello, I'm AntiDionysius. I noticed that you recently removed content from Battle of Orbulaq without adequately explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an accurate edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry; the removed content has been restored. If you would like to experiment, please use your sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. Hi!
Sorry for removal, I did it accidentally, I was correcting number on the table YerzhanU (talk) 00:43, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That's what I mean; you removed a number that was there and put in a new one. Your new number had a source, which is great, but the existing number has a source too. So when making an edit like that, you need to be giving a good reason why the old source was wrong and your new one is right.
In this case, where it's a question of estimating numbers in a historical battle, if there isn't a strong reason why either of the two sources is "wrong", there may be an argument for having the table display both estimates as the upper and lower bounds of a range. But I don't know. AntiDionysius (talk) 00:49, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi!
I went through source mentioned there but I couldn't find any numbers related to this battle nor any mentions of battle of Orbulaq YerzhanU (talk) 15:16, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, I see. That does occasionally happen. In that case you're free to treat the existing entry as unsourced and replace it with something sourced. I would, just to avoid misunderstandings, make sure to explain in your edit summary that the existing source doesn't appear to be at all relevant and that's why you're deleting it. Thanks for doing your due diligence! AntiDionysius (talk) 16:16, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
sure, I'll revert last change with proper edit summary, thank you! YerzhanU (talk) 16:20, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
