Michael Clarke

[edit]

Hi there. I saw that you had reverted an edit by an anon user who had vandalised the Michael Clarke page. I had earlier reverted two edits ny that user myself and would be in danger (as far as I can determine) of breaching the 3RR rule if I reverted any further edits by that user of that page. I placed a couple of warnings on the talk page of the user but am unsure what to do next. any advise you could provide would be greatly appreciated as although I have been an editor for a while I have never done much else than revert edits and generally tidy up artciles as required. Thanks. Jonesy (talk) 06:08, 24 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I;ve blocked him, but vandalism is exempt from 3RR so you could have reverted until the cows came home. YellowMonkey (click here to choose Australia's next top model!) 06:09, 24 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thankyou, I wasn't aware of that. I'll keep it in mind. Thanks again. Jonesy (talk) 06:11, 24 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

World Swimmers of the Year

[edit]

Hey there. Just letting you know the World Swimmers of the Year prior to 1980 are official since Swimming World started naming them back in 1964. The only difference is that ISHOF started recognizing the award as well in 1980. I'm the managing editor of Swimming World and unearthed some more of these awards dating back to 1964. I wanted to make sure the information was correct.

Oh sorry, I didn't know it was you because you didnt log in. Can you add the details to your website's page on the SotY as well so we know that it's legitimate. That's good. Thanks. YellowMonkey (click here to choose Australia's next top model) 04:40, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, no problem. I'm horrible at this wiki-editing stuff, but want to make sure we have the in-depth stuff going okay on wiki. It helps having it here as well. Our site is horrible as keeping everything in one spot. Also, I thought I told my browser to auto-logon. Oh well. Thanks for all the help! user:redtieguy —Preceding undated comment was added at 19:37, 27 October 2008 (UTC).[reply]

Sir, For alomost a month now, an IP has been adding unencyclopaedic info which has been reverted repeatedly by myself and several other users. The IP has not bothered to create an account or open a discussion. He is now eying Karnataka article. I had created this article solely by shifting the material from the Swami's page. Can you please help preserve it in present form. Thanks Shyamsunder (talk) 21:09, 25 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

What exactly is the problem with it? YellowMonkey (click here to choose Australia's next top model) 04:40, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
A couple of editors do not like the page and are bent upon burying it. I request a watch and help at appropriate time. Shyamsunder (talk) 10:44, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Marathi context

[edit]

This is what it basically says: Hemanshu (and the other editor, Harshal) have not been seen on the mr: wikipedia for quite sometime. In Hemanshu's case, he has been inactive for three years. Then, the user (Abhay Natu) goes on to ask the community if they should be desysopped. Regards, =Nichalp «Talk»= 06:27, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No, no evidence of that on the request page, or on his talk page. He hasn't edited there since 2005, and his edit count is also pretty low. =Nichalp «Talk»= 06:37, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This case is going to be 2 weeks old in another couple of days. Evidence/workshop is complete, and all proposals made on the pd page have been supported by 4 arbitrators. If you could kindly hop on over to this page to vote, that'd be great. Hopefully this case will be ready to close by 29 Oct. :) Cheers, Ncmvocalist (talk) 17:33, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

SLR Sockpuppetry

[edit]

Per your request off-wiki, I have performed a CheckUser to determine sockpuppetry on various controversial Sri Lankan articles. I have found that the following are  Likely of being operated by one user:

  1. Teasereds
  2. Pyongyange
  3. Mayaren
  4. ThesaiRao (blocked previously for socking as Christina71)
  5. Kuutti
  6. Christina71 (blocked indef)
  7. Dumbasser
  8. Desreas
  9. Geetha no1
  10. Korseter
  11. Kumbersa

All users were found in a /20 range for the same ISP in the same city. All users also had the same browser string. Nishkid64 (Make articles, not wikidrama) 22:22, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I was wondering if you could help me with the article Mahendra Singh Dhoni. As you know, I am doing a GA sweeps of sports persons and this guy has been on hold for several weeks because the page has two [citation needed] tags I added. Although by rights I should delist the article, I thought I come to you as someone I know is keen on cricket and see if you had the time to take a quick look and dig up a couple of sources rather than lose an otherwise perfectly good GA (barring some vandalism and a funny () in the infobox). If you can't then just let me know, and I'll delist the article if nothing happens soon. Regards--Jackyd101 (talk) 23:48, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately the article hasnt been expanded since mid-2007 when the original author retired. Since then he has become the ODI captain and reshaped the team by turfing out the oldies and introducing a whoel fresh set of youngsters, he also became TEst VC and was the captain in two matches when teh captain was injured and won both of them which has led to calls for him to be made the full-time captain. He also skipped a few international matches citing fatigue while playing in million-dollar club matches which caused other controversy. And also he once used these oversized gloves that were ruled to be illegal. YellowMonkey (click here to choose Australia's next top model) 03:47, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Non-Neutral POV

[edit]

I think you lack a neutral POV on the Orissa article. You've repeatedly reversed all edits noting the violence in that province that has been occurring for at least the last 10 years but has roots in caste conflict. I am not going to reverse your edit once again but this discussion will not stop here. Multiple editors have chimed in that the violence should be noted in the article. There have already been third, fourth, and fifth opinions. The addition to the article is well cited and referenced. I think you have a POV issue with this article, it is the only reasonable conclusion. Sandwich Eater (talk) 01:57, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Obviously it is well cited, nobody ever disputed that. The question is whether it is a mountain out of a molehill. The section is about 30% of the size of the whole history section and gets the same amount as 500 years of history. Hey...

[edit]

How've you been Blnguyen? Oops, I mean.. YellowMonkey.. :)

I'm not sure whether you can help me with that problem or not, but I thought to ask you anyway.

It's been two weeks or so since my original account stopped working. Everytime I log in on WP, my window is instantly stuck... I initially thought it was a temporary problem, or maybe some geek had hacked in my account. That's why I created this new account. Although I'm very soon leaving WP, it's extremely annoying, since I'd been using my initial account for two years, and now I feel like a new user. It entangles me a lot, as I can't get to different pages, I have no rollback etc. I tried changing my password, tried using another PC (I'm now on a vacation, so I'm noy using my own PC), and nothing helped. The problem still exists, and I thought maybe you have a solution? Maybe there is some way to fix it via admin tools, or any other way like changing my username or whatever?

Best regards, Shshshsh2 (talk) 00:30, 31 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think you'll need to go to WP:VPT because I don't know anything about technical bugs. YellowMonkey (click here to choose Australia's next top model!) 01:20, 31 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello!

Thanks for the clean up of this article. I was working with User:Roger Davies on taking this article to A class. He informed me that he is engaged elsewhere and is unable to devote time. I was wondering if you will be able to help me instead to take through A Class Review ?

Also User:Harryurz edited to convert the ranks from equivalent ranks to German ranks before your and User:Askari Mark's edit. The whole reason I had put in equivalent ranks with German ranks in bracket was the feedback in Peer Review. I may have to change it back if A class review brings up the topic. Could you please suggest a way to get the equivalant ranks back without edit or reverts ?

Thanks Perseus71 (talk) 20:48, 20 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

In principle, yes I will help. I don't believe that my edits made any changes to the rank titles though. That isn't a problem for me as long as whatever used is consistent. YellowMonkey (click here to choose Australia's next top model) 03:27, 21 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Just to clarify, I never promised to take this through to A-Class for you though I will happily continue to help with general input. --ROGER DAVIES talk 07:27, 21 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Can you please tell me why did you removed all the links I have added. The maps I suggested describe those places better than any article. I have visited those places and all the markers are 100% correct. You can ask anybody who visited those places. Even you can find a better info for those articles in that Website. I expect that you will respond.

Siva.nayak (talk) 07:30, 30 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

WP:SPAM and WP:EL. YellowMonkey (click here to choose Australia's next top model!) 08:15, 30 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If you consider those links as Spam and the remaining links apt, You know nothing about those places. Ask yourself why did you maintained some remaining links which are of little value. Ok. I loose nothing, but Wikipedia looses good links because of you. 9:50, 30 October 2008 (UTC)

Return of you know who

[edit]

Hello YellowMonkey. Ah! so you thought you could get away with running only one or two Lyle123 checkusers... Think again! :-) New list below:

Please let me know if additional blocks or cleanup is needed. And again, please range-block Australia (there can't be that many useful Wikipedians in Australia). Pascal.Tesson (talk) 23:48, 30 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

... and some more:

...and one more

(extra note) Don't hesitate to ask me to dump this on another checkuser. There's a fresh batch of CUs who, I'm sure, are eager to get assignments! I know it's probably not the most exciting part of your manifold contributions to the project so I don't want to bug you with this. Pascal.Tesson (talk) 16:27, 3 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I caught a whole pile of others, which can be seen in my block log. I guess I signed up to it, so that's my problem, but I guess I'll just point to my sig and ask for more volunteers for my photograph survey. Cricinfo

[edit]

I only submitted during its non-profit days; a few old score cards, an article or two on cricket history and info on cricketers; pretty much what I do here. I have had some paid cricket related writing in the days, some of which I have been meaning to adapt to wikipedia for some time. --Roisterer (talk) 00:18, 31 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You created the article so I guess you're the best person to ask. Is Bimal Soni this player who played twice for Rajasthan and would appear to be inaccurately on Cricinfo's record as Vimal Soni? Andrew nixon (talk) 12:32, 1 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, as you know, I can't edit with my previous account. Could you please give me a rollback tool? Shshshsh2 (talk) 10:24, 4 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oh yes I see, thank you very much. Could you please tell me what "IP block exemptions" means? Shshshsh2 (talk) 07:44, 5 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It means that even if your IP is hardblocked for vandalism, you can still edit. YellowMonkey (click here to choose Australia's next top model!) 07:45, 5 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Awhile back on Nadar (caste) an IP pointed out that Baker1987 is probably another Pondheepankar sock (like User:Nadar_Sagham et al). The Military history WikiProject Newsletter : Issue XXXII (October 2008)

[edit]
The Military history WikiProject Newsletter
Issue XXXII (October 2008)
Project news
  • Following a lengthy discussion, three new coordinators – EyeSerene, Maralia and the_ed17 - have been coopted. The purpose of the appointments is partly to fill the place left by the retirement of TomStar81 and partly to provide increased/improved coordinator capacity to cover existing coordinator absences and to help with upcoming major projects. As a reminder, coordinators are merely editors who have committed to go the extra mile for the project and that there are very few processes that require coordinator input. Specifically these are closing A-Class reviews, and endorsing two project award nominations. Any editors who wish to help with the nitty-gritty of this busy project (cross-posting A-Class review, peer review and featured article candidate alerts; responding to member questions and queries, helping with drives) are positively encouraged to do so.
  • A workshop has been set up to redesign and improve the newsletter. In our recent competition, a new name was chosen – The Bugle. All editors are welcome to participate, especially those with graphic and design skills!
  • Administrator and Milhist coordinator, Nick Dowling, has changed his user name to Nick-D.

Isis Gee

[edit]

Hello, can you please help resolve isis gee. I and some other users believe we should not quote or use as a single source the PR page is Isis Gee. I would rather use the more encyclopedic previous version.

Only a non biased person should decided:

1. Is quoting carte balk from her PR site word for word an acceptable source or is the previous version better as it is written in a more encyclopedic manner.

2. Should we add material from magazines and PR sites at all? If we have to I would rather add both positive and negative PR. It seems only positive is allowed.

3. Has there been a strong bias toward positive spin and constant reversions of anyone who disagred?

G'day Wikimedian :-)

[edit]

Whilst it's quite likely you'll have heard this news on the grapevine, in your email inbox, or even in person - I thought that it was sufficiently exciting to warrant giving each of you a 'new messages' orange bar! This particular orange bar has been brought to you to let you know that Wikimedia Australia is now open for members!

I'm not on the committee or anything, and that's where the credit is due in getting everything to this point, but I think it would be absolutely fantastic for folks who wish to support the australian wiki community, to go ahead and sign up - we're quite likely to be the world's fatest growing chapter at the moment! Join Us :-)

Here's a little more about membership, and the mailing list in particular is well worth signing up to as well, and is a good forum to get answers to any questions answered, or to share any ideas. I've dropped these notes in under my own steam, and you've received one because you're on this list - feel free to ask me any questions, or anything - I can certainly point you in the right direction :-) cheers all, Privatemusings (talk) 04:03, 13 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
