Welcome

[edit]

No-one seems to have welcomed you yet. Here we are:

Welcome to Wikipedia!

Welcome to Wikipedia, 49TL/Archive-All! I'm Celestianpower. I noticed that you were new and/or have yet to receive any messages so I just thought I'd pop in to say "hello". Hello. Wikipedia can be a little intimidating at first, since it's so big but we won't bite so Be Bold and get what you know down in microchips! If you do make a mistake, that's fine, we'll assume good faith and just correct you: it'll take a few seconds maximum! Here, however, are a few links to get you started:

There are lots of policies and guidelines to get to grips with but they all make your life easier and your stay more fun in the long run. If you have any questions, feel free to leave me a message on my talk page or add helpme to your userpage - someone will come very, very quickly to your aid. Please be sure to sign your posts on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~) to produce your name and the current date, along with a link to your user page. This way, others know when you left a message and how to find you. It's easier than having to type out your name, right? ;)

I hope you enjoy contributing to Wikipedia. We can use all the help we can get! Have a great time, all the best, sayonara and good luck! --Celestianpower talk 14:32, 31 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion

[edit]

Hey there, FireFox. In such situations you should use the WHATEVER template, replacing WHATEVER with the reason you feel the article should be deleted, in your example the reason would be vandalism. Articles with this template are pooled at Category:Candidates for speedy deletion, which admins check constantly, analyzing and deleting articles in a time span which may vary from a minute to half-an-hour. Only use this template in extreme cases though, see WP:CSD. Cheers. --Sn0wflake 14:35, 7 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, but isn't it a little late?

[edit]

Hi, Thanks for the bit you put into my user talk section, but wouldn't it have made more sense to do it when I first signed up for wikipedia, as opposed to now - almost 5 months later...? Possibly put it into the registration process to stop you having to visit everyone's page and putting the same text in again and again. Or better yet, put it in one central location, and then drop a link into everyone's talk page... just some ideas...--ric_man 02:05, 4 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Strange...

[edit]

I've been reading your userpage and I find it interesting to know that you do/like a lot of the stuff that I do too; for example we're both students, both speak Spanish and French, both use Firefox, both hate the Labour Party, both hate Bush and both like maths! I just find this highly amusing! » FireFox  T C E 16:43, 26 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Well, not so strange I would say but interesting. I'm bound to meet someone with my interests someday but I diodn't think that it would be on Wikipedia!!! By the way, how do you like my new signature? Consider joining WP:ESP... --Celestianpower hablamé 17:03, 26 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
So how long have you done Spanish for then? --Celestianpower hablamé 17:07, 26 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Yup, your new signature is very nice. I have been doing Spanish for just over 4 years now, I really enjoy speaking it and I'm (apparently) quite good for my age. What about you? I've looked at WP:ESP and I've signed myself up: I'll have a go :) FireFox  T C E 17:38, 26 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
It's easily preferable to French (I dropped it a year back) and I've been told I'm quite good at it too. I've been told I'll walk an A* ... which is nice.
Do you fancy trading spaces? There's a note about it on the WP:ESP page. I think it'd be fun - it's where we redesign totally eachothers userspace, then the person uses that design for a week before reverting back to their original design, if they want. Do you want a go? --Celestianpower hablamé 17:55, 26 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah I'm up for it, athough I may have to wait til tommorow to start on yours if that's ok. You can do mine tonight if you want though. Lol, I still do French but I find it much harder and a lot more boring. What year are you in at school? (I've just had to redesign my signature 'cos I've just realised it messes up some of the formatting - grr) FireFox T C 18:07, 26 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Koolio - I'll start yours now then. I'm in year 11, you? What formatting does it mess up exactly? --Celestianpower hablamé 18:15, 26 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I'm also in yr 11. Well I edited html to make the date small and blue, and it's worked for about a week now, but your comment: "It's easily preferable to French..." has turned blue :( ah well, it needed redesigning anyway - now its got a link to WP:ESP :) FireFox T C 18:22, 26 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
So what other subjects are you GCSE-ing? Other than English, Maths, Spanish, French and Science, of course. --Celestianpower hablamé 18:26, 26 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Well it's triple science, and on top of the above I am doing Italian, Music and ICT. I take my maths GCSE in January - help! ¿Y tú? FireFox T C 18:30, 26 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I'm currently in the middle of my maths coursework (E-totals) - ¡es aburridísimo! FireFox T C 18:46, 26 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Si no tocas el teclado algo más, ¿Qué sobre sus funcionamientos?
E-totals? Estudio differentiation para mis "coursework". --Celestianpower hablamé 18:54, 26 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry - I didn't get the last bit: ¿Qué sobre sus funcionamientos? - I'm a bit rusty lol... Yeah, E totals (aka "Magic E") - its our statistics coursework. I'm going off the computer now, I'll leave a message for you tomorrow after school. FireFox T C 19:00, 26 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Nah - my fault. Qué sobre tus = what about your. I couldn't think of the word for performances so I just google-translated it. I shouldn't do that really. It makes you incomprehencable.
Okay then, speak again tomorrow and I will unveil my new design for your userpage! Hasta luegos! --Celestianpower hablamé 19:05, 26 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Well I do all my perfomances on keyboard (or using Sibelius on the computer). I'm in music at school atm anyway - can't wait to see my new design! FireFox T C 10:24, 27 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah - but if you don't play keyboard anymore, how can you?
Koolio. But how's my one coming along? --Celestianpower hablamé 14:44, 27 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, it seems you misunderstood (probably my fault) When I said "no puedo tocar algo más" I meant "I don't play anything else". Lol I've only just come home from school, I'll get to work on yours right away :) FireFox T C 16:18, 27 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

No, my fault, I thought it meant, "I don't play it any more"!!!! --Celestianpower hablamé 17:36, 27 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough - I should be finished on your page by about 7.00. FireFox T C 17:40, 27 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, my first ever spam mass produced and mailed to the spamlist. Well first of all let me re-state that we have an irc channel, #wp-esperanza, and its been rather empty, so I'd appreciate it if you come, even if you just idle about. Now, the evil polls have closed, and I left a justification note for running the evil polls. Nothing has really changed, but at least I have somewhat of a consensus. I hope to figure out a way to overturn my power to JCarriker somehow, I'll figure out a way :-) Meanwhile, I've been busy reforming the mediation system where I am the chairman now, er, acting chairman. Thanks, FireFox, for the barnstar. Nice to be recognized. Welcome to Wikipedia... seems like you haven't been here for too long but have still done quite a bit of good work. If you need any help translating Sp, Fr, or It articles I can give you a hand. Since you're so interested in languages, I highly recommend starting on Chinese as soon as possible for (a) the advantage gained by having a longer period of study compared to peers who'll probably begin only at university (b) the fact that over 1.4 billion people speak it or other dialects (c) the special ability you will gain in learning a language few Westerners even master, (d) a gateway into an amazing culture/literature. WP:CP

[edit]

Hi, you've reported copyright infringements to WP:CP in the last week, a new measure was recently passed to allow the speedy deltion of new pages that are cut and paste copyvios. Please follow these instructions if you come across this type of copyvio. Thanks. --nixie 00:11, 6 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Blatant copyright infringements may now be "speedied"

If an article and all its revisions are unquestionably copied from the website of a commercial content provider and there is no assertion of permission, ownership or fair use and none seems likely, and the article is less than 48 hours old, it may be speedily deleted. See CSD A8 for full conditions.

After notifying the uploading editor by using wording similar to:

-- ~~~~

Blank the page and replace the text with

to the article in question, leaving the content visible. An administrator will examine the article and decide whether to speedily delete it or not.

My Userpage

[edit]

Would you be horribly offended if I chganged my userpage so that it is halfway inbetween your version and mine? I like your revision a lot and a lot of it I will keep. However, I think there's currently a lot of whitespace that needs elimination. Please don't take this as an insult of your design as there is lots In really like. --Celestianpower hablamé 17:16, 6 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

My Old Account

[edit]

Well I'd love to tell you but to be totally truthful with you, I've forgotten that. It is coming up for 2 years now since I gave up with the account. I remember coming back from a business trip, and finding that I had forgotten my password. I didn't know what to do about it so left it and gave up on Wikipedia. In August I got chatting with a friend and Wikipedia popped up in the conversation. I resolved with myself I would give it another go and here I am. All I remember of my old user name was it began with Grant (my name) and had about four randomly chosen numbers after it. The latter though is very unclear. Sorry about that. I've found Wikiwoohoo much easier to remember (I have another friend absolutely obsessed with shouting "WOOHOO!" and I've written my username and password on a scrap of paper by the PC screen. RE: Barnstar > Thank you!

[edit]

Hello! I hope you're well. I wanted to thank you for awarding me a 'barnstar.' What exactly are they, though? :)

As well, I do not presume to do or be more or less than anyone else, but I'm curious about the distinction between a minor star and a major one. I am not necessarily vane, but I think I've made some rather 'major' contributions too, including:

 • holding vote and, consequently, working on inclusion of HDI in country infoboxes/template
 • uploads of numerous accurate (or moreso than previous), unique flags, maps, and other images (e.g., Greek letters)
 • editions to 'Canada'-related articles, including 'mediation' and information provision for Canada's name
 • Star Trek and other minutiae

Anyhow, I'm honoured! Thanks again for the acknowledgement; take care! E Pluribus Anthony 01:53, 8 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Esperanzians! A few announcements.

The Advisory Committee election results are in. In tranch A are Acetic Acid and Flcelloguy. In tranch B are Ryan Norton and Bratsche.

My other annoouncement is that our founder, JCarriker, has founded Esperanza's sister project, Wikipediology. I have written two essays here (my name is Matt Binder). My essays are under Teenage Wikipedians and Anon Editors.

On behalf of myself and Jay Carriker and the other wikipediologists, I would appreciate it if you were to join.

personal message / confusing

[edit]

"Thanks for experimenting with Wikipedia. Your test worked, and has been removed or reverted. Please use the sandbox for any other tests you want to do. Take a look at the welcome page if you would like to learn more about contributing to our encyclopedia. Thanks."

that's the message i got from you. i have no idea what it means, or what it refers to, or if i am even the correct recipient. you have a strangely self-assured tone for somebody who hasn't made it clear what in god's name you're talking about, so maybe i am not the intended recipient.

i've never performed any "tests." recently i've added comments to a few DISCUSSION pages, about critical issues relating to whatever subject at hand. i added to the DISCUSSION pages, not the main articles, because of the problem that i described: certain individuals erase content not based on its merit or its relevance for an encyclopedic entry, but based on their own taste or distaste with the facts presented. in this case, i didn't think i'd be "treading" on even the most neurotic wiki-stewards, since i was.... discussing..... on the discussion page.

so with that in mind, i have to assume that your message is nothing but a trumpeting of the fact that you disapprove of my additions to the "discussions" and rather than confront those elements on their own terms, you've deleted them altogether.

this might surprise you, but the last time i actually edited an ARTICLE, a moderator messaged me to compliment my contributions and suggested that i make a registered account.

so with that in mind, i think you're out of line, and i'd like to know what you deleted and why you did it. (on another note, your use of the term "our" in "our encyclopedia" seems to have excluded me, and seems to miss-- or maybe malign-- the fact that it's as much mine as it is yours.)

i don't have a static IP, so you should say what you have to say here. (preceding unsigned comment by 128.119.232.206 (talk • contribs) )

sorry for the mixup

[edit]

"Sferrier"s link to the talk-page definitely pointed to your page. Sorry for the mixup. I don't know if he intentionally misdirected his link or not. When I saw that Sferrier's link pointed to "FireFox" (your page), I figured that he had two accounts, one named Sferrier and one named Firefox. So I went ahead with my communique.

Thank you for replying yourself, and for not deleting my (rather large) addition to your page, thereby allowing me to easily recover my text and send it to a more appropriate place or at least send it in a new direction.

You can see Sferrier's link to you here: http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/User_talk:Sferrier

Although that link at the bottom isn't the actual link that led me here. In his private message to me, he linked to you.

I have replied more fully on my own talk page, however please know that the link you see there from the FireFox user is his signature on text that he added to my discussion page. Such signatures (as you will see at the end of this comment) is considered part of the Wikipedia guidelines.

Careful with the templates on talk pages

[edit]

Hi FireFox. I noticed a comment you made on someone's page about blanking, and I assume you are using the monobook with some of the automated template actions...because you repeated a mistake I was making for a while. If you've hit the + to edit a new section on the page, and then hit the template for say blanking then it sooooooorta puts the template message in, but also turns it into something like =====blanking===== (makes it bold and weird).

I didn't check to see if it was an isolated accident or more common in your edit history, so just wanted to give you a heads up if you didn't know of that interaction. :)

ps - yes, I've been watching that editor who goes up and down the year pages (I'm assuming its a bot) removing links, adding links, etc. I've suggested on the admin noticeboard that this user and another who does similar things be watched very closely, but it was dismissed.

cheers, --Syrthiss 16:52, 25 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

User page & contribution count

[edit]

Hi! Thanks for reverting the vandalism that went on at my User page.

Looking at the history of your user page, I'm amazed to see how often it gets vandalised, and how many rude comments people replace it with. Yet looking at your User talk page, you seem to be relatively popular. :-) I guess with popularity comes hatred, no matter what you do...

One thing I would like to comment on, though, is that your edit count appears to include all edits from all namespaces. You seem to edit User talk pages much more than articles, and User and Wikipedia pages added together also amount to as much as article edits; are you sure you're not betraying yourself by using that figure as your edit count, especially because every time you update your edit count, counts as another edit? I realise I've used all namespace edits in my own edit count before, but now that I've come across this handy edit counter that breaks it down into namespace, I've reduced it to just my article-namespace edits. — Timwi 13:24, 27 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I see you're one of the increasingly large number of users keeping a close eye on the above IP and it's constant vandalism by what I suspect is only a small group of kids. The warnings don't seem to be doing anything, as they wouldn't to kids! Two things occur to me:

1) The 1,200 pupils couldn't be editing at the same time. The school will probably have only a few computers (say 100 or so) to which the children won't have access all the time. A minor point I know!

2) What would be the objections by other Wikipedians to a total ban on the IP address, do you think? Setting up an account on Wikipedia takes only a moment and any legitimate editors (I notice there are a few at this address) could set up their own account with ease. I'm sure teachers, non-idiotic pupils and the like would understand. Coyote-37 22:11, 4 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Kyle Weiss deleted.

[edit]

Hello FireFox.

Glad to meet your accquaintence.

Yesterday I had submitted an article on myself, and noticed it was deleted saying it was an attack page.

I'm admittedly completely ignorant towards how exactly Wiki works, though I used it as a base for general knowledge and common opinion almost on a daily basis. There was a defenition of "blame" that I'm currently posting at work, which lends itself towards failure of management in the workplace. Simply brilliant.

So, the next question is, can that article on myself be restored? I worded it just right and was quite proud of it's poise. Is there a way to verify this isn't an inflamitory statement and is actually being made by the author himself?

I'd greatly like to know for all accounts.

Please, if you wish, I'll check back here, but I can be reached at:

kyleweiss@torche.com

...since you appear to be a moderator/administrator of some kind.

Thanks for your time.

Rajput

[edit]

I would like to draw your attention to rajput page.

I have created the document from a list of 61 books which are mentioned in the references section. Authors have done extensive research in the field of history and then published these books. Muslims and some users like zora/gothean are accusing me of hindutva POV/anti muslim and I have repeatedly asked these muslims and self proclaimed moderators,on the talk page, to point out historically incorrect statements in the article. No one has come forth. Yet they revert my edits. When I ask them for citations they remain quiet.

Also it seems providing references is meaningless here. What seems to be working is how many people one has on there side. i.e what matters on wikipedia is outshouting the other.

Now they are accusing me of impersonating others.

Can you keep an eye out on the rajput page and help prevent the vandalism of Zora/Taaoo/Wisesabre/Supersaiyan?

[edit]

I would suggest fixing your signature by adding three </font></font></font> because those font tags have not been closed... It's coloring things other than your signature blue... -- WB 00:15, 15 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

More specifically you should change it like this, in order to avoid a number problems. Thanks. Canderson7 02:47, 15 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Your sig

[edit]

Yep,fix it please.It makes pags small and blue.Thanks.--Tan Ding Xiang 陈鼎翔 03:46, 15 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

The signature problem seems to have something to do with recent changes in wp's software. You can either use </font> or remove (for the time being) the colours, if you haven't already done so. Take care!
ps if you find out what was the reason for that (apart from signatures it affected div and I don't know what else) leave me a message (I'm really curious about this one) +MATIA 12:37, 15 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I think it's just the problem with the </font>. Did you change anything to your signature recently Firefox? Anyway, it's good that new MediaWiki is "forcing" people to close their open tags. (If MW is doing that). -- WB 15:23, 15 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
No, I haven't changed it for at least a week or two and I've had no problems. It seems as if many people are having the same problem. I have changed my sig now, it seems to be "compatible"... let's just see what happens :) FireFox 17:20, 15 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Strange indeed. But it's a good practice to close the tags anyway. You might try the Bugzilla if you're really wondering about this problem. -- WB 18:10, 15 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
The problems were caused when the devs were forced to disable HTML Tidy. HTML Tidy had previously been causing a good deal of invalid HTML to display correctly. While it was down this invalid HTML caused all sorts of problems. More info can be found on WP:AN. Canderson7 21:23, 15 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Here, I'll try an easy fix up method. I suggest you put the "Code" below as your signature in the "my preferences" option, which will result in:

Code <span style="color:black;">Fir</span><span style="color:green;">e</span><span style="color:red;">Fo</span><span style="color:blue;">x</span> <small><span style="color:purple;">-CVU-</span></small>
Output FireFox -CVU-

Yeah. -- WB 00:49, 16 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I've been trying to clear out the issues with npov from humanism for a few days now and there is some resistance in the form of one person. why have you intervened on behalf of the only person? if you follow his edit trail, you'll come to see that although that several of us, 3 people, have agreed that we need to be inclusive of Catholic humanists, and other forms of humanism. there is a long discussion of the changes and their justification in the talk section. I need an accurate and neutral article on humanism for my class to read in the spring, and currently, the article isn't accurate. --Buridan 13:15, 11 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

As the Coast Guard lists them as lights rather than lighthouses, and most other articles on the subject use light rather than lighthouse, I was trying to keep things consistent. If there is a consensus on always using lighthouse, please point me to it. Alternative Metal

[edit]

This is mainly concerning your edits. Im not bitching at you, snarling, being aggressive or cold, but the edits your making to Alternative Metal are leading me, and several others watching them, further down the path of believing the article needs to be merged. Might i recommend to you, that even though you have been here a long time, that you not let your passion for the article take over your sense of writing. Many of the edits your making are filling out the history. Thats good, really good, except its the history of Nu Metal in general. Also, many of the edits are coming off as unencylopedic, or POV. Things such as 'metallish alternativish bands' over 'sungenre'? That some what says unecnyclopedic and POV.

I do seriously think you could make this article better. In the mean time, i suggest you chalk up a temp page and make revisions there, or, do it on a word document before you save anything direct to the article, so things like this can be discussed and a consensus reached.

Otherwise, go for it, but seriously, you need to start correcting the problems with the article, as at the minute, you seem to be furthering them. Leyasu 08:11, 15 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I think you got the wrong person. If you look at the edit history of Alternative Metal, you will see that I do not appear in it. I think the user you want is AJ Ramirez (talk · contribs). What can I get for a Barnstar?

[edit]

Gee. Thanks. Now that I have a Barnstar, can I ask a little favor? Could you ask User:Geni to unlock the User:Amorrow page? I am Andrew Morrow. The Elizabeth Morgan article, which I wrote, was a very upsetting thing to create and in late July it was hijacked and butchered and I wrote the some message I should not have.

When I was boy in Boy Scouts, I once left my tag on the board at the lake at Boy Scout camp. You know, the one to show that you are swimming there. Of course, they started to search the lake and the camp, looking for me. When they found me, the punishment was several hours of cleaning seaweed out of the roped off swimming area. I had to do my punishment in public, but once punishment was over, that was it.

My ex-wife, a physician, took my only child, my daughter, away from me when she was only three weeks old. Needless to say, that kind of punishment never really ends. That is part of the reason why I care so much about the Elizabeth Morgan story. I was hoping it would only take up one page, but I now see that it is better that it take up the full three pages at Wikipedia that it deserves. Of course, nobody involved in the July indicent thought that way: they just butchered the article of all of its references, and then I got upset and wrote a bad thing. Also, my daughter's name is also A. Morrow and I would like to think that if she ever Google'd "amorrow", that Geni's narrow characterization of me would not be the first thing she sees.

I would like User:Amorrow page unlocked. Not the account, just the user page. -- Fplay 17:56, 18 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of Boppers Cafe under CSD A7?

[edit]

While I care nothing for the article Boppers Cafe and it would have been deleted in any case, I see nothing in WP:CSD justifying its speedy deletion. CSD A7 (non-notable individuals or groups) does not cover instututions, corporations, businesses, buildings, or the like. Rajput

[edit]

soo, Firefox, what are your plans for Rajput? We cannot wait for peace to break out in South Asia before unprotecting. My take on the situation is that we have several users prepared for civil debate, viz. Taaoo (talk · contribs), ImpuMozhi (talk · contribs), AMbroodEY (talk · contribs), Wisesabre (talk · contribs), with varying grasp of civility, but they represent both camps and I think they could work together. The only users showing complete obstinance are DPSingh (talk · contribs), Ss india (talk · contribs), Shivraj Singh (talk · contribs) plus their assorted IPs. SS and DP are hopeless cases, but Shivraj has his light moments, and he could possibly reform if the environment was better. If we can agree on a zero tolerance policy for trolling, PA and removal of sourced statements (immediate blocks), I do think the users mentioned could get some work done. You would, however, have to babysit the article, and take the abuse from the trolls you block. dab () 09:52, 21 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

why do you think I am involved with the article? The trolls claim I have a "muslim pov", but they're trolls. I do not pretend to have knowledge on the topic, let alone a pov. I am involved as an admin, with getting the discussion back on track, just like you are. You'll find the trolls will claim you are "involved" soon enough, if you dare insist that Muslims should be allowed to edit Wikipedia just like Hindus. dab () 12:58, 21 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I reverted for purely technical reasons, removal ("blanking") of the npov tags and of references. I implored them to add their material, but they didn't listen. I repeatedly stated that I consider it possible that their points are valid, but their edits are in violation of policy (sources, removals). I am thus only involved as far as policy is concerned. This has gone on for too long now, and I do think deliberate trolling should be met with blocks for disruption now. However, as long as you are watching the article, I will leave it to you, and I'll take a well-deserved break from this sad mess. dab () 13:25, 21 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I note that you have blocked wisesabre for 24 hrs -- certainly deserved; but is nothing to be said about Those Others who revert the page a dozen times a day without self-declaring those actions to be reverts?? Your promptness in acting on that complaint will only reinforce their apparent belief of you being their comrade-in-arms. In this connection, may I bring to your attention the following message, which I had left on some other admin's page a few days ago? No action then ensued, but I am hoping for some further promptness from you. Perhaps I should also clarify, given the state of matters here, that I am actually of the same broad "identity group" as Bachmann's opponents, but cannot abide them....here is my message, dealing with your recent correspondent:

Could you take a view on this, this and the Talk:Rajput page in general? That user's discourse is in general informed by this orientation; the futility of engaging with him is arguably indicated by this, this and other such. I am anxious to see something done, since I hold the views expressed by him in the second paragraph here!! The said gentleman (sic), whose ascertainable contributions to WP began on 08/Dec/05, has filed a complaint alleging bias and incivility by Dbachmann (talk · contribs); do you think you could express a view on that complaint page? In that connection, reference to the contribution records of Shivraj Singh (talk · contribs) and Ss india (talk · contribs) may be useful. Regards, ImpuMozhi 05:32, 22 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Furthermore, I will call your attention to this, addressed to a lady editor -- that user, another of the same group, was banned permanently; however, his edits continue under 210.187.49.65 (talk · contribs). Regards, ImpuMozhi 15:00, 24 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Greetings:

I just noticed, through a coincidental circumstance, that you deleted I Like Anime as a speedy delete, and cited A7 as your criteria.

Thing is, A7 only applies to biographical articles about individual people (or, now, quasi-biographical articles about bands and clubs). Even with the new expansion of its scope, it still does not cover "things". And as near as I can figure I Like Anime was an article about a "thing" rather than a person or a group of persons.

You may wish to restore the article and list it on AfD. There is a group of folks out there who seek any erroneous speedy deletion as a justification to cry for the complete dismantling of the speedy deletion process. AfD is generally the safer route.

All the best.

Vandalism?

[edit]

Hi. Can you explain why you used your admin rollback tools on this edit? If you can avoid using admin tools except for fighting vandalism, that would be appreciated. Cheers, Sam Korn 20:42, 23 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Think about it like this: protection powers are on account of being an admin, deletion powers are on account of being an admin, blocking powers are on account of being an admin. Rollback powers are also on account of being an admin. You would not expect to use any of the other tools except due to vandalism (3RR and ArbCom blocks being the obvious exceptions), so there's no reason that rollback powers are anything different. On top of that, it's a matter of courtesy: you can explain why the revert was needed in the edit summary. It wasn't obvious exactly why you were reverting on that page, so an edit summary would have been helpful. Cheers, Sam Korn 20:57, 23 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I do see your point, but all the same it would be more polite and courteous to use useful edit summaries wherever possible. Sam Korn 21:10, 23 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

No, it's not generally a good idea to put that you're younger than 18 on a userpage. You get talked down to and insulted on account of it. It used to be there, till I pruned my page extensively a month ago. I just assume everyone to be male unless told otherwise, and still sometimes I forget then... Cheers, Sam Korn 22:18, 23 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Template_talk:Reli-bio-stub is the worst example of it for me. Since then I've resolved to a policy of boldness and anonymity! Sam Korn 22:28, 23 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Talk:Rajput

[edit]

The name that Raja called Suryabandhu was an abuse, so is what DPS has called Raja in his recent post. DPS' addition can easily be deleted, but what would you do with Raja's comments which is repeated more than once. Tintin 17:53, 26 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Supersaiyan (talk · contribs) is signing as "Raja". I try to filter out all the shouting and pick out the actual contributions (viz., citations), so I have not followed the namecalling. dab () 18:11, 26 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
re the 1 week block, DPS is of course a troll, and a 1 week block is justified based on his recent behaviour, taken together; blocking just for a personal attack otoh is difficult to justify, especially without warning, and especially seeing that he was reacting to another, weaker, PA which went unpunished. I would suggest you review your precise blocking reasons (or maybe consider issuing another, shorter, block to the other party), and/or post the block on AN/I for review; otherwise, I have little doubt that you will be counted as a "jihadist" soon, just like me :) dab () 19:53, 26 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I agree. The other person attacked Suryabandhu more than once which led to DPS' comments. Tintin 19:57, 26 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I do not understand. Suryabandhu was called "bandar" i.e a monkey couple of times and nobody warned/blocked User:Supersaiyan. And Digivjay did ask you specifically Firefox what are you going to do about it. Since you did not do anything he replied back. Either ban both for similar terms or unban both. Same yardstick has to be applied. Shivraj Singh 20:34, 26 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Provide me with direct evidence and I will deal with it, I promise. FireFox 20:37, 26 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Interestingly, this phrase first appeared in this addition by an IP editor. What happens next ? Tintin 20:56, 26 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
[Here is the diff of what Raja said].
[Suryabandhu's response].
Suryabandhu seems to be his pseudonym though it could be his real name. Since DPS was provoked I think his punishment should be smaller then Raja's.
dab u show ur bias again by saying Raja made a weak PA.
Shivraj Singh 21:34, 26 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
The words used by DPS translate to "son of a swine"; when offered to a muslim, the insult is especially grievous. I can affirm that "monkey" has no cultural flavour beyond what is understood in English -- its approximates to 'clown' rather than 'SOB'. ImpuMozhi 19:03, 27 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Firefox these comments have right attribution. You can leave a comment for User:Supersaiyan and I am sure he will accept it that he made those comments. Please do not let this drop thru the cracks. Shivraj Singh 21:57, 26 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

FireFox, We are all watching what action do you take againt user Raja. Also, trolls are vandalizing DPS talk page; even making fun of him now that he can't defend himself. I still have faith in you, but watching warily. -- sisodia 211.226.231.244 21:53, 26 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Not redundant

[edit]

On Wikipedia:WikiProject Userboxes/Delete requests you listed a couple of entries as "Not redundant". Although their "What links here" did show one or two entries, they were actually already fixed. The "What links here" is a little dodgey, to get rid of the entries they needed a blank save (null edit, where you save a page without changing it). --Commander Keane 22:39, 28 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Rajput

[edit]

Dear Sir,

This page is about the Rajput people - the valiant people of the region which today is called Rajasthan, who gained their popularity and respect, because of their bravery, opposition to invaders and upholding of Dharma. The discussion on whether only these people are Kshatriyas or whether the space can be shared with other fighter communities of Hindu fold like Yadavs, Jats, Gurjars etc. is of religious domain. Here, we should consider only Hindu Rajput community, as commonly understood, and leave out other people.

Discussion of Rajputs as a 'race' or 'tribe' etc. is futile. There is no scholarly agreed view on the descent of the these people. It is assumed that they were feudatories of Gurjara-Prathihara kingdom, and started on their own upon the disintegration of the kingdom. Their great saga begins only in mid-late first millenium CE and their military accomplishments have been covered in detail.

I understand that there might be some Mohamedans today, who were once Rajput, but post-conversion they are just Mohamedans. They've lost their caste on account of their failure to defend the dharma and capitulating in front of the enemy (Sufi conversion and other tales, notwithstanding). Even if we skip the religious angle, the argument of Muslim Rajput does not have any credibility from practical POV also. The children born to converts were not known as Rajputs but as Muslims. People who insist on putting Mohamedans in this space should provide reference of some great king, feudatory etc. who went about as Rajput even after conversion. Going by the slippery logic, even Jehangir would be Rajput, since he was born to Rajput mother. But, History as told by Mughal chroniclers, records him as only Turk (or Tork, as it goes in Persian).

My request to you is not to allow this page to be vandalized by these people. Especially, when now there is a Wiki page on Muslim Rajputs (http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Muslim_Rajputs). People are welcome to post their blinkered History there.

Hoping for justice :-) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Indologist (talkcontribs)

Hi Firefox

[edit]

Dear Firefox,

Thanks for your encouraging welcome message and kind words! I'm still new to the forum, still finding my way around :-) I would like to apologise for the oversight of not signing my name, will take care next time. I just saw the arbitration issue and jumped to the conclusion that there is a jury oput there to decide the Historicity of Muslim claims to Rajputhood, and more importantly, whether such claims will be entertained on the page. I believe, you are looking at the dispute in some other capacity, so please ignore my earlier comment. I have no intention of influencing you, one way or the other :-)

Anyways, nice interacting with you. Take care!

AWB

[edit]

Hi ,when you use AWB can you make sure you check every edit, as I dont think you meant to make this edit. thanks Martin 16:37, 31 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Please don't use a bot to remove spaces from heading wikitext; eg don't change "== AWB ==" to "==AWB==". The former form is much more readable for editors; there is no reason to expend resources making this change. Michael Z. 2005-12-31 19:30 Z

It only does that on "see also" and "external links" sections, as it makes it easier to fix other minor problems in these sections, I'll make it so it doesnt do that soon. thanks Martin 11:25, 1 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please remember to list each protection, such as List of social networking sites you make at WP:PP, since it makes it much easier to keep track. Advsory Council Stuff

Hey Firefox, i've finished the experimental structure for making a reformed version of NPA through the ideas of Esperanza as a whole, I was wondering what you thought about my process for it, as well as the idea overall. karmafist 08:40, 2 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Firefox! Hopefully it can become a first step towards real reform in the policy process everywhere on WP. Please add anything you'd like to that, the seed of that is my idea, but all of the bark, branches and leaves will come from Esperanza as a whole. karmafist 11:18, 2 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

List of Internet Slang

[edit]

Hello there. Maybe I'm missing something really obvious (I often do), but can you please tell me what was wrong with this edit. Thanks, →FireFox 18:21, 2 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sure thing, there are two reasons actually. Although it is an acronym, it does not really fit the albeit vague definition of internet slang. That, and it does not return any hits on Google that I can find, so it appears to be an extremely non-notable acronym as well. Best regards, Hall Monitor 18:27, 2 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Oscar images

[edit]

Hey, I just wanted to ask your opinion about something. 81.240.202.11 has been making some useful additions to List of Academy Award winning movies, but this user has also added an Oscar image to many pages in a format that doesn't seem to be useful to pages such as Pulp Fiction, Kramer vs. Kramer, and L.A. Confidential. The image is set at the top of the page, is left-aligned, and is not explained, but beside that, there are categories to describe things like that. I left a note on his talk page, and he has since stopped adding the images, but he also hasn't responded, so I'm asking you for your opinion on the matter. Thanks, JHMM13 (T | C) 20:28, 2 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
