Great Siege Monument
[edit]Thanks for your edit of Great Siege Monument - I'm a little bit confused as to why the central figure could be both Fortitude and Valour (given that they are somewhat different things. Most of the online references I've found refer to it as Valour - have you got references for the former? Kilbosh talk 16:39, 7 January 2020 (UTC)
- @Kilbosh: When I originally wrote the article in 2017 I included both since I found sources describing the figure as either Fortitude or Valour. Fortitude is used by the Superintendence of Cultural Heritage and by this book, while Valour is used by Din l-Art Ħelwa and some news sources such as The Malta Independent or Times of Malta (all of these links are cited within the article). --Xwejnusgozo (talk) 16:53, 7 January 2020 (UTC)
- I take your point, but the book erroneously refers to 'Religion' and 'european'(...) when it should be Faith and Civilisation respectively, while the Superintendence of Cultural Heritage in turn refers to a Din l-Art Helwa website as a reference, which is a dead link. I think the evidence is stronger for Valour. Kilbosh talk 16:59, 7 January 2020 (UTC)

[edit]Hi Xwejnusgozo, Just a quick note to thank you for your contributions to WP! Keep up the good work. - Samf4u (talk) 01:10, 12 February 2020 (UTC)
- @Samf4u: You're welcome - thank you for showing your appreciation! :) I'm happy to help out by adding missing information on Wikipedia when I have time. Recently I began writing articles on air/maritime disasters in Malta - I see this as a small way of trying to ensure that such terrible events and their victims are not forgotten. New Page Reviewer newsletter February 2020
[edit]Hello Xwejnusgozo,
- Source Guide Discussion
The first NPP source guide discussion is now underway. It covers a wide range of sources in Ghana with the goal of providing more guidance to reviewers about sources they might see when reviewing pages. Hopefully, new page reviewers will join others interested in reliable sources and those with expertise in these sources to make the discussion a success.
- Redirects
New to NPP? Looking to try something a little different? Consider patrolling some redirects. Redirects are relatively easy to review, can be found easily through the New Pages Feed. You can find more information about how to patrol redirects at WP:RPATROL.
- Discussions and Resources
- There is an ongoing discussion around changing notifications for new editors who attempt to write articles.
- A recent discussion of whether Michelin starred restraunts are notable was archived without closure.
- A resource page with links pertinent for reviewers was created this month.
- A proposal to increase the scope of G5 was withdrawn.
- Refresher
Geographic regions, areas and places generally do not need general notability guideline type sourcing. When evaluating whether an article meets this notability guideline please also consider whether it might actually be a form of WP:SPAM for a development project (e.g. PR for a large luxury residential development) and not actually covered by the guideline.

Melita issue
[edit]The Melita bullion coins article brought me to the Melita issue article, because I'm a stamp collector. What a nifty article! I thoroughly enjoyed reading it, and I thank you for creating it and working on it. 78.26 (spin me / revolutions) 15:24, 12 March 2020 (UTC)
- @78.26: You're welcome - and thank you for your comments! When I wrote the article I wanted to make it interesting for both stamp collectors and the general public, so I tried to include as much background information as possible along with more technical details. I think further similar articles on other notable stamp issues from around the world would also be useful for those interested in history and art etc (whilst also promoting philately). Glad that you liked the article. :) Xwejnusgozo (talk) 02:59, 13 March 2020 (UTC)

[edit]Hi Xwejnusgozo: Lovely job of building the stub I created into a proper article. Am also delighted to see some of the work you have done re Maltese fortifications. I visited Malta for a conference in 2007 and was disappointed that there was so little on Wikipedia on the towers, so I did some stubby stuff on the Lascaris and Wignacourt towers. Fantastic to see the improvement of the situation. Acad Ronin (talk) 11:38, 5 April 2020 (UTC)
- @Acad Ronin: Thanks for your comments, and for creating the speronara article in the first place. :) I was particularly intrigued by the Calypso-class spéronares - it's interesting to see how a type of Maltese mercantile vessel ended up being used by the French Navy (although very briefly). Falmouth packets
[edit]Hi Xwejnusgozo, the reason I deleted the ref to Malta's stamps is that many Falmouth packets stopped at Malta over the years, as well as Gibraltar, and Smyrna, and also Lisbon, Cadiz, Halifax, New York, Bermuda, Jamaica, Suriname, Demerara, Rio, Bahia, and numerous other ports. The connection is just too minor. Now if Malta would issue some stamps celebrating the packet service, that would be a great addition to the page on the Post Office Packet Service and any ships featured. On another matter: I visited Malta for a conference in 2007 and spent a couple of extra days visiting parts of the island and Gozo. (When I got back I worked on articles about the towers, the 100-ton gun, and the like.) I also bought a set of four toy soldiers representing the KOMR. (I collect toy soldiers.) Apparently the manufacturer (Degree Miniatures, of Valetta), is still in business. I think photos of his toy soldiers would be great, colorful additions to the articles on the Fencibles, KOMR, etc. It would also give him some quiet advertising. Just a thought. [edit]Hello - hope you are keeping well. This article says that The Olives in Tarxien has Grade I listed status [1] but I cannot find it in the National Inventory, nor is it on our list of monuments in Tarxien. No Swan So Fine (talk) 13:33, 16 September 2020 (UTC)
- @No Swan So Fine: The Olives is listed on the Malta Scheduled Property Register, which is a different list from the National Inventory, and which is not really covered on the English Wikipedia at the moment. Some sites from the scheduled property register have recently been added to the "List of monuments in..." articles by Nevborg (talk · contribs) and ToniSant (talk · contribs), but they are far from complete (there's also a brief discussion here - feel free to join if you wish). --Xwejnusgozo (talk) 13:43, 16 September 2020 (UTC)

DYK for Parish Church of the Assumption, Mġarr
[edit]On 3 October 2020, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Parish Church of the Assumption, Mġarr, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that in the early 20th century, residents of Mġarr, Malta, were encouraged to contribute eggs to raise funds for the construction of their parish church? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Parish Church of the Assumption, Mġarr. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Parish Church of the Assumption, Mġarr), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

New Page Patrol December Newsletter
[edit]Hello Xwejnusgozo,
- Year in review
It has been a productive year for New Page Patrol as we've roughly cut the size of the New Page Patrol queue in half this year. We have been fortunate to have a lot of great work done by Rosguill who was the reviewer of the most pages and redirects this past year. Thanks and credit go to JTtheOG and Onel5969 who join Rosguill in repeating in the top 10 from last year. Thanks to John B123, Hughesdarren, and Mccapra who all got the NPR permission this year and joined the top 10. Also new to the top ten is DannyS712 bot III, programmed by DannyS712 which has helped to dramatically reduce the number of redirects that have needed human patrolling by patrolling certain types of redirects (e.g. for differences in accents) and by also patrolling editors who are on on the redirect whitelist.

- Reviewer of the Year
John B123 has been named reviewer of the year for 2020. John has held the permission for just over 6 months and in that time has helped cut into the queue by reviewing more than 18,000 articles. His talk page shows his efforts to communicate with users, upholding NPP's goal of nurturing new users and quality over quantity.
- NPP Technical Achievement Award
As a special recognition and thank you DannyS712 has been awarded the first NPP Technical Achievement Award. His work programming the bot has helped us patrol redirects tremendously - more than 60,000 redirects this past year. This has been a large contribution to New Page Patrol and definitely is worthy of recognition.
