Project News

SummerSlam (1988) and SummerSlam (2007) have both failed their Featured Article Candidacy's, their review pages can be found here and here, respectively.

List of WWE SmackDown video game titles (link) has been nominated for Featured List status.

IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship (link) has been nominated for removal as a Featured List.

Paul London, SummerSlam (2004), Survivor Series (1994), and WWE SmackDown (video game series) are currently Good article candidates.

Backlash (2007) (link), Unforgiven (2006) (link), The Rock (entertainer) (link), One Night Stand (2007) (link), The Great American Bash (2007) (link) and Royal Rumble (2005) (link) have been elevated to Good article status.

Over the Edge (1999) has passed its reassessment and is now a good article! The article's reassessment can be found here.

A pay-per-view event chronology has been added as a feature to the Wrestling event infobox, please assist the project in adding this feature to professional wrestling pay-per-view event articles.

The C-Class rating has been introduced. The rating falls between articles that are more than Start class, but less than B-Class.

The Month in Wrestling History

June 1, 1998 - Junkyard Dog died at the age of forty-five in an automobile accident.
June 2, 2003 - Freddie Blassie died at the age of eighty-five from natural causes.
June 10, 1983 - Harley Race defeated Ric Flair for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship.
June 13, 1982- "High Chief" Peter Maivia died of cancer at forty-seven.
June 13, 1993 - Yokozuna defeated Hulk Hogan for the WWF Heavyweight title.
June 19 2002 - AJ Styles became the first TNA X Division Champion.

Current Events

James Yun was suspended for 30 days for violating WWE's Wellness Policy.

Vince McMahon was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Promax|BDA Conference for "for his remarkable accomplishments and innovations in global marketing, advertising and promotion."

WWE is currently holding "Million Dollar Mania", where they give out prize money totalling $1 million on Raw to viewers watching the show at home.

At Night of Champions:
- Mark Henry became the new ECW Champion.
- Kofi Kingston won the WWE Intercontinental Championship.
- Cody Rhodes turned on Hardcore Holly to capture the World Tag Team Championship with Ted DiBiase.
On June 30, CM Punk won the World Heavyweight Championship on Raw.
Trevor Murdoch was released from WWE on July 3.

The Month in Wrestling History

June 24, 2001 - Edge defeated Kurt Angle in the finals of the 2001 King of the Ring.
June 26, 1992 - Buddy Rogers died of a stroke at age 71.
June 28, 1999 - Steve Austin defeated The Undertaker for the WWF Heavyweight title.
July 2, 1969 - "Iron" Mike DiBiase died of a heart attack in the ring.
July 3, 2001 - AJ Styles and Jerry Lynn become the first NWA World Tag Team Champions under the ownership of TNA, via winning a tournament final.

As I'm sure you noticed above, this is the 20th edition of the WikiProject Professional wrestling newsletter! It has come a long way since the first issue, and I'm sure it will only improve from here. I'd like to thank everyone reading this for continuing to read the newsletter, biweekly.

I'd like to especially thank those who have helped to get the newsletter to it's 20th edition; The Hybrid, The Chronic, TJ Spyke, Alex Roggio, LAX, ThinkBlue, Nikki311, GaryColemanFan, Gavyn Sykes, D.M.N., Naha, NiciVampireHeart, SRX, Zenlax and, RkOrton.

Also, lastly I'd like to thank Misza13, for sending the newsletter out for us, though his bot. His bot has to be the most important part of the process, because without it, the newsletter would not get sent to project members.

- Curt Hawkins and Zach Ryder won the WWE Tag Team Championship in a Fatal Four-Way match.
- Shelton Benjamin won the WWE United States Championship, defeating Matt Hardy.
- Michelle McCool defeated Natalya to become the inaugural WWE Divas Champion.
TNA has posted a notice on their official website detailing a release of wrestler Kaz. This has been reported to be kayfabe by numerous other sites, but be prepared to revert edits to Kaz's article regarding this as well as List of Total Nonstop Action Wrestling alumni
A redesigned ECW Championship belt was introduced on July 22 during an episode of ECW.
Mike Adamle was appointed the new General Manager of Raw. Todd Grisham has now taken over as the commentator for ECW.

Recent News

At WWE Saturday Night's Main Event, Jenny McCarthy appeared on the television program to promote funding for the prevention of autism in children.
On August 3, World Wrestling Entertainment's official website announced that Ric Flair and the WWE would part ways.
On the August 4 edition of Raw, Batista and John Cena defeated Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase to win the World Tag Team Championship; however, the following week DiBiase and Rhodes regained the titles.
Braden Wlker was released from WWE on August 7.
On August 8, WWE released Shannon Moore, Nick Patrick, James Curtis, Domino, Nunzio and Big Daddy V.
On August 10, Randy Orton reinjured his shoulder in a motorcycle accident.
Beer Money Inc (James Storm and Robert Roode) won the TNA World Tag Team Championship at Hard Justice, defeating the Latin American Xchange.
WWE released Cherry, Colin Delaney, Stevie Richards, The Highlanders and referee Wes Adams on August 15.

Recent News

At SummerSlam, Beth Phoenix and Santino Marella defeated Mickie James and Kofi Kingston to win the WWE Women's and Intercontinental Championships, respectively.
TNA Wrestling released Gail Kim from her contract on August 20.
It was announced on the August 25 television episode of Raw that John Cena had suffered a herniated disc in his neck. Cena received successful surgery the following day, and will be inactive for 2-4 months.
Killer Kowalski passed away on August 30 after suffering a heart attack two weeks prior.

Mick Foley's WWE contract expired on September 1, and he has signed a short-term deal with TNA.
At Unforgiven:
- Matt Hardy won the ECW Championship in a Championship scramble match.
- Chris Jericho won the World Heavyweight Championship, in a Championship scramble match also.
- Afa Anoa'i, Jr. made his debut as "Manu".
Nathan Jones was injured in Thailand, after he was hit by a truck. Jones had recently signed a deal with TNA, but will now be out for at least 3 months.

At No Surrender, Sheik Abdul Bashir won the TNA X Division Championship in a 3-way dance by defeating Petey Williams and Consequences Creed.
On September 14, Shelly Martinez was released from her contract by TNA.
Sheamus won the FCW Florida Heavyweight Championship on September 18, beating Jack Swagger.
On September 21, at the SmackDown taping, Primo Colón and Carlito won the WWE Tag Team Championship, defeating reigning champions Curt Hawkins and Zack Ryder.

On October 12 at Bound for Glory IV, Sting (Steve Borden) won the TNA World Heavyweight Championship in Chicago, Illinois.
On October 13, Johnny Devine (John Parsonage) was released from his Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA) contract.
On October 14, Lance Cade (Lance McNaught) was released from his World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) contract.
On October 21, High Chief Peter Maivia's widow, Leah, died aged 81.
On October 23:
- TNA broadcasted Impact! live in high definition; it also held Impact! in a different arena other than the TNA Impact! Zone.
- Also on Impact!, Booker T (Robert Huffman) debuted the newly established Legends Championship into TNA and, in storyline, awarded himself the title.
- Awesome Kong (Kia Stevens) defeated Taylor Wilde (Shantelle Malawski) to win the TNA Women's Knockout Championship on Impact!.
