Assamese state song
Chzz ► 13:26, 6 July 2009 (UTC)
Hi,
State songs like Jai Jai Maharashtra Maza, Maa telugu thalliki, Jaya Bharata Jananiya Tanujate do exist in wikipedia, then why not “O mor aponar dex”, the state song of Assam. It has been twice deleted. I’m not gonna create the page again since I’m not experienced but would like to request you veterans to create an article on it. --Xeteli (talk) 10:42, 28 June 2009 (UTC)
- The first two articles that you mention should almost certainly be deleted; we know that there are lots of articles on Wikipedia presently that do not meet the standards required, and we're trying to sort them out - but that takes time. See Wikipedia:Other stuff exists.
- The third, Jaya Bharata Jananiya Tanujate, does at least have some references to help assert notability.
- The key point is, it needs "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject" (See WP:N). In the case of the 'Assamate state song', I was unable to find such sources. If some suitable reliable sources could be found, then it would be fine to make an article - however, it shouldn't just be the lyrics; it would have to be an article about the song - who wrote it, the history of it, that kind of thing. If this information is not available, then sadly we cannot have an article on the subject, because it would not be verifiable.
- I hope this helps, Chzz ► 13:16, 6 July 2009 (UTC)
File source problem with File:Deu-langkhui.jpg
Thanks for uploading File:Deu-langkhui.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 00:26, 9 July 2009 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Polly (Parrot) 00:26, 9 July 2009 (UTC)
- File:Deu-langkhui.jpg is my own work. So plz advise what would be the appropriate license tag for it. --Xeteli (talk) 04:04, 16 July 2009 (UTC)
- Thank you for File:Deu-langkhui.jpg. Best regards --Xeteli (talk) 11:34, 17 July 2009 (UTC)
A New Article
Chzz ► 04:14, 27 July 2009 (UTC)
Hi,
I'm trying to create an article on Anandita Dutta, also called Indian Chili Queen, the Indian woman who can eat and rub ghost chili on her eyes and also who had made to guinness world record. I have also given some important links. So would you please help me creating the article right on my test page? Please help.--Xeteli (talk) 03:19, 27 July 2009 (UTC)
- Hi there. I think you'll do fine creating such an article. Some comments;
- Some of those sources are blog sites, and they're usually best avoided, as they might not be reliable sources. Looking here on Google News search, there seem to be plenty of good sources though.
- Be careful of WP:ONEEVENT. I think that there is enough background information about this person, but you need to ensure you do not only document the world record; you need to give (referenced) details about her background, previous notability, and that sort of thing.
- Please use in-line referencing for all the facts, to say where the info comes from. I will explain how to do this on your talk page.
- Good luck with it; please try to write the article. If you get stuck, or have any questions, please ask. Cheers, Chzz ► 04:13, 27 July 2009 (UTC)
How references work
Simple references
These require two parts;
- a)
Chzz is 98 years old.<ref> "The book of Chzz", Aardvark Books, 2009. </ref> He likes tea. <ref> [http://www.nicecupofteaandasitdown.com Tea website] </ref>
- b) A section called "References" with the special code "{{reflist}}";
== References == {{reflist}}
(an existing article is likely to already have one of these sections)
To see the result of that, please look at user:chzz/demo/simpleref. Edit it, and check the code; perhaps make a test page of your own, such as user:Xeteli/reftest and try it out.
Named references
Chzz was born in 1837, <ref name="MyBook"> "The book of Chzz", Aardvark Books, 2009. </ref> in Footown.<ref name="MyBook"/>
Note that the second usage has a / (and no closing ref tag). This needs a reference section as above; please see user:chzz/demo/namedref to see the result.
Citation templates
You can put anything you like between <ref> and </ref>, but using citation templates makes for a neat, consistent look;
Chzz has 37 Olympic medals. <ref> {{Citation | last = Smith | first = John | title = Olympic medal winners of the 20th century | publication-date = 2001 | publisher = [[Cambridge University Press]] | page = 125 | isbn = 0-521-37169-4 }} </ref>
Please see user:chzz/demo/citeref to see the result.
For more help and tips on that subject, see user:chzz/help/refs.
Plz help
Following your tips on how to give references, I created an article named Mela shikar. But it has been tagged as possible copyright violation. Being inexperienced I dare not to deal with it again. You plz help rescue the article. (this version also) - Xeteli (talk) 02:45, 1 September 2009 (UTC)
- Hiya. I see in the article history that the notice was added as follows;
18:10, 31 August 2009 NuclearWarfare (talk · contribs) (rm unreliable source (facebook), Plagiarism, and noting that this article may be a copyright violation of the newspaper articles referenced)
- I expect that they are concerned that some of the text is taken w:verbatim from the source(s). If you know which bits they mean, then the answer is simply to paraphrase the source rather than copying the exact wording - please have a look at Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. If you are not sure which bits are a problem, then it would be best to discuss it with the user who flagged the problem, ie on user talk:NuclearWarfare. I hope that this helps, cheers, Chzz ► 23:05, 1 September 2009 (UTC)
Mayong
I have removed sections of the text which use non-neutral language and weasel words. Please do not put them back in. Ironholds (talk) 09:52, 23 August 2009 (UTC)
- OK, fine. But why are you removing the reference?--Xeteli (talk) 09:55, 23 August 2009 (UTC)
- I was under the impression that the reference was about the weasel words. If it is being used as a reference for the rest of the paragraph, re-add it without the spammy text. Ironholds (talk) 10:07, 23 August 2009 (UTC)
Mela shikar
Chzz ► 23:58, 1 September 2009 (UTC)
Hello! I have recently nominated Mela shikar, an article you created and have been editing, for Did you know, to be featured on Main Page. The nomination has now been reviewed, and there are some issues that may need to be clarified. If you are interested in having your work on MainPage, please review the comment(s) underneath your nomination's entry and respond there as soon as possible. I think all the reviewers want is some tweaking of the text to avoid the appearance of plagiarisms. No major surgery needed. Thank you for contributing to Wikipedia. Happy editing. Cheers! --PFHLai (talk) 20:18, 5 September 2009 (UTC)
DYK for Mela shikar

- You're welcome, Xeteli. Pls be encouraged to self-nominate your next good wikicontribution for DYK. Happy editing. Cheers! --PFHLai (talk) 03:02, 12 September 2009 (UTC)

- If you think some other license tag will be appropriate for the file and can prevent its deletion, your help is expected.--Xeteli (talk) 03:55, 24 October 2009 (UTC)
- Sorry, used the wrong tag. I've made the fix -FASTILYsock (TALK) 04:27, 24 October 2009 (UTC)
- Frankly/Honestly speaking, I'm not so experienced enough to handle this problem. The file still have a threat to be deteted. Could you plz help to rescue it? --Xeteli (talk) 06:17, 24 October 2009 (UTC)
- Well, I'm not going to lie, it seems like free versions of an image like this could be taken. You note that this is an image from the Mayong Central Museum and Emporium, a point of interest which is open to the public. Since that appears to be the case, the image is not compliant with Wikipedia non-free content ctriteria #1. If you can obtain a free version, I'll be happy to help you but, well, as far as I can see, it doesn't look like there is a way to save this image form deletion. Sorry, FASTILYsock (TALK) 06:26, 24 October 2009 (UTC)
Images and deletion
I have deleted the image you uploaded of Bhimkanta Buragohain, because you said you were releasing it under a Creative Commons license. You did not create that image, and therefore you did not have the legal authority to release it under such a license.
"Creating" an image from a photograph does not mean "cropping everything except the subject of interest". It means that you were the person holding the camera, looking through the viewfinder, and pressing the shutter button.
Please remember this in future. DS (talk) 14:47, 11 November 2009 (UTC)
- Oh dear, oh dear. I've just deleted ten images that you uploaded. Nine of them were listed as "Creative Commons". Let me repeat: cropping an image does not make it yours... and neither does mirror-reflecting the image. This is your warning: do not upload any more such images under the Creative Commons license.
- I also had to delete the image of Kamal Kumari Barooah, because you listed it as "public domain". However, Indian copyright law only releases images once they are at least sixty years old post-publication. The image of Siva Prasad Barooah is fine, though. DS (talk) 15:04, 11 November 2009 (UTC)
Replaceable fair use File:Sadhus&ambubachimela.jpg
Thanks for uploading File:Sadhus&ambubachimela.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the media description page and edit it to add
{{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}
, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template. - On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. FASTILYsock(TALK) 04:53, 25 December 2009 (UTC)
A request on DYK for Rukhsana Kausar
I’ve recently created an article on Rukhsana Kausar, who single handedly killed one LeT militant, injured one and made the other run for his life, when they berged into her house. I intend to promote a fact from it to DYK. So I request you to have a look at the article and let me know whether it is eligible enough to nominate and if yes how I should go ahead.
XETELI (HELLO) 02:40, 29 December 2009 (UTC)
- Hello, Xeteli. If an article is new enough (<5 days old), long enough (>1500 characters), and properly referenced, it is usually good for DYK. I have nominated this article on your behalf, using {{NewDYKnom}} in the DYK nomination space. You can do the same for your next new article. If you like, you can also post your own hook for this article by you next to my hook at T:TDYK#Rukhsana Kausar. One concern I have about this article is that Rukhsana Kausar may or may not qualify for an article under WP:SINGLEEVENT. (I am not sure.) Getting a National Award may be a second event. However, National Bravery Award needs to be updated to include Rukhsana Kausar. Moreover, I am not sure if she indeed is getting this award, which is meant for children. She is reported to be 20/21 years old in the newspaper articles used as references in the wikiarticle. You may want to check. Hope this helps. Happy editing. Cheers! --PFHLai (talk) 16:15, 29 December 2009 (UTC)
- Thank you Sir, I knew you would do that favor on me. Waiting for further help/advices from you... XETELI (HELLO) 03:43, 30 December 2009 (UTC)
- You're welcome, Sir. If you don't mind, please quickly remove or confirm that Rukhsana Kausar has indeed won an National Bravery Award. The National Bravery Award is usually given once a year in January. For brave acts committed in September 2009, as in the case with Rukhsana Kausar, winners will be awarded in January 2010 at the earliest. So the wikiarticle, right now in December 2009, cannot possibly say "she has been awarded the National Bravery Award". Please check and confirm this fact. Ref.#6 in the wikiarticle right now only states "The Centre has announced a bravery award for her" without specifying what bravery award she is getting. Maybe it's some other bravery award? Please check and fix this before the article gets featured on MainPage as a DYK. Thanks. --PFHLai (talk) 05:43, 30 December 2009 (UTC)
