need source

[edit]

You need to give a source for the $2.5 billion figure, otherwise anyone can just make up any number for anyone. Forbes does not believe he is a billionaire at all, so if you wish to claim another reliable source states he has $2.5 billion, you have to provide a link to the source. It's not useful to add information with no source because a lot of students of African American business use this article to get reliable information and we don't want to mislead people or provide information of a low quality. Pacingcar 06:24, 14 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Now I did add a source from Forbes saying some had estimated him at $1.5 billion but Forbes disagrees, and I also cited the Washington Post claiming that if he had $1.5 billion he would have been the richest African American as of 2002, but I can't find any source ever estimating him at $2.5 billion or claiming that he would have been the richest African American ever. Pacingcar 06:29, 14 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for responding

[edit]

I'll remove your unreferenced statements from the black billionaires for now as per WP:CITE, WP:V, and WP:RS but you can always add them back if and when you can cite the source. Pacingcar 04:53, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

OHOTMU stats

[edit]

A lot of your recent edits to various articles about comic book characters owned by Marvel Comics have been reverted. It's against Wikipedia policy to include power stats taken out of various encyclopedic comic books, such as the Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe and Who's Who in the DC Universe. All the info used to make up the comic book character articles has been taken out of the characters' various appearances in standard monthly titles and are fair game. However, OHOTMU stats are found only within very specific Marvel publications or in trade magazines, like Wizard Magazine, with Marvel's permission. As a result, using those stats is a violation of the WP:Copyright policies. Aside from that, their use and encouraged use could potentially result in Marvel Comics seeking legal action. In a nutshell, whoever is ultimately in charge of Wikipedia is worried about getting the crap sued out of them. Also, after an editor has been made aware of the policy, and he or she continues to add stats, it will be considered an act of vandalism.Odin's Beard 23:26, 12 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Charlie Smith claim to 137

[edit]

Just to let you know, the Charlie Smith claim to 137 was a fraud. His own marriage certificate in 1910 gave his age as 35 (which would have made him 105, not 137, at death). But the 1900 census suggested he may have been even younger, around 100 years old.Ryoung122 07:54, 30 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Let's discuss this. There is a big difference between "allegedly" (a dubious claim) and "disproven."

This case has already been disproven. Disproven means FALSE. Not allegedly. This was reported as such even in the New York Times in 1979.Ryoung122 16:24, 30 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
